I think they are going to really well, and I wish them both the best. It's absolutely fantastic what he's been able to accomplish so far--he sounds like a really responsible adult. Kudos to their parents for equipping them with the life skills they need to be independent and successful.

Wow, three pages of replies and I'm really the first one to suggest the most obvious poll in the history of Crosswalk?

Do you think the Duggars will have Grandchildren older than their youngest child?

It's likely. My parents and my in-laws do.

Well that is actually more common then you think.

My eldest aunt's oldest children are my dad's (the youngest of 6) age.

There was a family in a church we once attended who have at least 13 or 14 kids now. Their eldest daughter married a couple of years back and both she and her mom were pregnant at the same time. I do believe the daughters baby was born before the mom's, by about a week or so.

Blessings,

Garsy

But seriously, it seems they are well prepared for the life which they both appear to desire and feel called to lead so Congrats and God bless them!

My only hang up ( and yes, it is probably mine) is the "entering into marriage in purity" comment. I'm all for purity ( ask my kids! ) but I just find the "advertising" of it to be a little distasteful.

Several years ago I was on another Christian forum and someone mentioned a t-shirt that certain girls had taken to wearing which proclaim the wearer as a "VIRGIN....some other words which I can't remember" but the idea was to make a statement.

I voted: No, my daughters would not be permitted to wear that or any other shirt which make reference to their sexual status. I feel the same way about marriage websites.

A true lady not only doesn't but she doesn't make a public statement on the matter either

That was pretty common in my parents' time as well. My mom's oldest sister is 22 years older than the youngest sister and at least two of her kids are older than my youngest aunt.

My neighbor had a baby about 5 years ago when her oldest daughter was a senior in college so, assuming she was about 22, she could have easily had a child herself at that time. But the baby was a huge surprise. The youngest child in the family was 13 or 14 at the time.

I'm not sure, but I think virginity used to be a big deal in the past. Being proud if it's not something that's usually done in this culture, but I don't see anything wrong with it.

I, personally believe it's never good to be proud of anything, with all the Biblical warnings against pride, thankful, yes, proud, no, although more on that is probably a topic for another thread.

One of the problems with the way purity was taught in my christian high school is that we were given the idea that if we stayed pure until marriage and married someone else who stayed pure, our married lives would be completely smooth sailing, and we would never even have one little disagreement with our spouse, and that is just not true. Marriages where both enter as virgins can still have their struggles. Someone who marries as a virgin could still have a miscarriage, their husband could still get cancer.

I had honestly missed the purity statement in the website...and I actually don't think it's as bad as it could be...I think those T-shirts mentioned upthread were bad, as were the "I'm not doing T-shirts," that were popular when I was a teenager. The way it came across to me in the website was that they are trying to be a witness to a world that is now so blind in that area. I do think it's important to remember as christians that if a person repents, they are just as completely pure before Christ in that area as someone whose physically pure..AND WE ARE ALL SINNERS..not just non-virgins.

As I read all their comments about letting God plan their family, and looking forward to children (which is nice)..I hope they do keep in mind that not everyone can conceive, and that could happen to them, too. I would hate for them to be utterly devastated from overlooking that possibility.

Now is anyone gonna talk about the wedding itself? Any guesses on the color scheme? Anyone like my ideas of how to include all the kids in the wedding?

I don't know that I would say that virginity was something to be proud of in the past. ( by being proud of it, I mean it was a topic of discussion) I would more likely say that it was traditionally assumed that a young Christian couple would wait for the wedding night.

So if it were my children, I would simply prefer that they had lead lives up to this point which just naturally lead people to assume that they were applying Biblical standards to this area as well.

For me, it just falls into the same category as the slipping a little note in the invite letting everyone know that the happy couple would prefer cash instead of toasters.

There isn't a law against it and it certainly isn't a "sin"........but is still distasteful.

I wonder if it going to be a big gala-type affair or a simple friends and family ( although that would still be "big" ) ceremony.

I will admit to being curious about the fact that the wedding to Friday and this is the first I have heard about it. I wonder if it has been in the works for a while or it is a quickie.

NOTE: I am in no way suggesting that there would be any need for a "quickie" wedding, just wondering if the young couple recently decided not to do a long engagement.

I not much a Duggar TV fan but I if they do a wedding special, I will watch! That would be fun.

Although, maybe more fun if one of the Duggar daughters was the bride.

That is VERY common where I live. And actually, my youngest sister is 3 months older than my youngest child. And our parents are not quiverful! And this happened in both my grandmothers' families, as well.

Actually, that website has been around a while...I just didn't get around to posting until now..it didn't have the wedding date on it at first.

Due to the pink and brown shirts, and that color combination also being popular right now, I wonder if those are their colors..or if they'll pick something else.

Oh Girl!!! Let me tell you, I have seen people not only do that....I know one couple who suggested that, in lieu of traditional weddings gifts, please consider making a donation to help pay for the honeymoon.

I actually think this has gotten more common as the average age of a first marriage has gone up. In many cases you have two independent adults who are combining households and already have at least one if not two of the traditional items needed to set up a first home.

That's tacky. Also, if you ask everyone to do these things for you, how can people do nice things for you and feel like they are doing it because they want to?

Admittedly, we got a wedding gift we couldn't even identify, and it might have been nicer to have cash, lol, but still, there is care that goes into giving gifts.

Shortly after we were married my ex-H won an award for the store he managed in the mall. We went to this black-tie party (me in my wedding dress! don't worry-it wasn't white) and there was gambling for fake money. It's the only time I have ever gambled. Anyway, at the end, you could bid on things in an auction with your fake money, and of course many of us didn't have enough to buy anything, so we all pooled our money and gave it to a couple who was about to get married so that they could bid on a cruise for 2.

But that would not have been such a fun memory if they'd asked us to.

Or one could still cheat, or abuse their spouse or fall into porn... it doesn't just have to be an unpreventable medical issue that causes problems. With both of them coming from such fertile families the odds are reduced that they'll have trouble concieving, plus they are very young, making concieving more likely.

But I agree, coming from a background that teaches that God is directly opening a woman's womb to give her children, instead of a biological process to become pregnant, it must be all the more painful when God does not open her womb, almost like God turning his back on her.

As far as having a child younger then a grandchild, that must be a cultural/regional type thing. The closest I have in my family is me (a great-grandchild) being older then the youngest grand-child. But that is a bit different then having a child early enough in life so that you are still fertile when your child is old enough for motherhood (and the your child also having children very young).

Not necessarily. For one, pregnancy is actually much closer to 10 months. Secondly, just because you have sex and don't use birth control doesn't mean you will get pregnant.

I think it was some sort of light fixture, and eventually someone we knew identified it and we let him have it! LOL

Oh yeah, you're right on, there..all that was also kind of in my head too, just didn't make it to the fingertips and the keyboard, lol.

That's why some of my standards have changed over the years..I used to think if I got married, the guy had to be a v-----, but now I think what is far more important is how he will treat me as we head into the future, not what mistakes he made in the past, besides we all sin, just in different areas.

Considering both receptions are in their respective church halls, how "gala" could it possibly be?

Anyway, no one said anything about this yet, and I've been waiting to hear some comments:
Here is the e-mail:
Congratulations to Josh and Anna on their engagement and wedding. I hope the wedding goes well. I notice that Josh and Anna both have many siblings, and while, of course, what they do is their business, I thought there may have been some concern as how to include all the siblings in the wedding (if that was their desire)..so I just wanted to share some things I've seen children do besides just being ring bearer flower girl (and I have seen weddings with lots of flower girls)..

ring bells(it would be easy to have all boys not doing anything else do this)
carry a bible
carry bride's train
roll out carpet
light candles (has to be somewhat older kid to do this)
pass out favors
pass out programs

I hope these ideas are helpful, and if they already had other things figured out, no problem, just my 2 cents.
I hope they have a blessed day, and that God is honored in all that is done.
Blessings,
Rebekah

The only thing I regret not making clear is that having lots of flower girls was one of the ideas one could do. That's what I was trying to say, but I'm not sure it was clear.

Oh, believe me a reception in a church hall can be very gala. My best friend's reception was in a church hall (a brand new one, so that helped), and her brothers, sisters and me all decorated...including things hanging from the ceiling with lights on them..she had a fall theme..the youth group of that church cooked a fancy-just-like-catered dinner, and there was '80's group dancing..the whole reception it felt just like it was being held in a hotel...it was so fun and beautiful.
