I haven't heard much about gun rights in this election. This is a very important issue to most in my rather large family and I.
Quite simply, if you value your constitutional right to have a gun don't vote Obama. He hates guns and would see them completely off limits.
Obama supports:
A total ban on handguns
A ban on sale and transfer of semi-auto rifles
A ban on right-to-carry permits
A ban on guns kept in the home
A huge tax increase on

Really???... first you say you haven't heard much on gunrights during this campaign and then you say not to vote for Obama because he doesn't support gunlaws. Your "proof" are coming from a partisan and a group that's a lobbyist. Wouldn't it have been more substanstial to refer to a reputable non-partisan source if you're going to make such a statement? That's like me saying McCain is going to continue to outsource American branded cars because he drives foreign cars (it's a off base analogy I know, but that's my point).

The most telling thing is how the candidates have voted in the past. Many politicians will tell you what they think you want to hear during the election. From my research Obama has not voted to uphold gun rights while McCain has voted to uphold them.

Heh, it's obvious he's thought about it, just he knows he doesn't have the votes in Congress that would side with him on a gun ban.

The Gun Ban does not affect me as I do not own one or plan to.
I even would come up with a proposal that anyone who owns guns do have to be check for anger management and other stuff..with the amount of stress in this society and the behaviour of some as in roadrage and other rages, no way would feel safe anyone walking around carry thier "pet guns" legaly...
There is something cooking here in Ga about guns and if I understood correctly: someone in NY suing stores who sold guns here that end up in the hands of criminals up there..plus Ga passed a bill that is legal for people to carry guns all over even at the airport etc but because of the homeland security you cannot carry guns at airport. Conclusion: there is a conflict about guns going on and 2 laws that say "yes and no, no and yes..., yeh right than gun owners so attached to their guns will try to fight the homeland security because of their rights..no way that is right.

The NRA is only partisan to the issue of gun rights. They criticize Republicans and Democrats alike when they vote against the NRA's positions. Their criticism does fall more often on Democrats, but that is because more Democrats are at odds with gun rights and the NRA's views.

What I noticed from the fact check article is that fact check bases their analysis on what Obama is promising during the election and ignoring completely how he has voted in the past. The NRA is ignoring what Obama is promising and making projections on how he has voted in the past. I feel more comfortable looking at his voting history.

....but he can introduce "common sense" gun laws and pass them with a democrat majority congress. The problem is his "common sense" gun laws may not jive with many other people's ideas of common sense.

Having a gun is a Constitutional right?

The judges can't change the Constitution either. They would have to rule in opposition to the very clear wording of the Constitution and in opposition of previous Supreme Court rulings. If all three branches are more liberal then you can bet that our rights will be taken away. An unarmed society has a harder time fighting off tyranny.

Laura,
There are quite a few judges who "interpret" the 2nd amendment to be a collective right as opposed to an individual right, meaning that the right to own guns falls to the government in order to maintain a standing army. The latest ruling on the second amendment passed by a vote of 5-4. You may not see a threat, but I do. One or two of the wrong kind of judge could very easily put individual gun rights at risk.

Which tyranny?
I was at wikipedia and it seems a long material to read etc not having time or patience for that.
But is sure the issue there dates from England and etc I would guess nowdays may carry gun for their own protection and to hunt also..but the tyranny situation I have no ideia, yet.
Plus in my oppinion a criminal background check is way to little check to give ok to anyone carry a gun.
I would hope that states do decide as their citizens if they want to be states of weapons or no weapons. I would choose to move and live among those non weapons states. As do not cross the state border carrying your weapons inside our mist.

This is the one area where I think McCain has a better handle than Obama. However, Because both parties seek to have total power, it won't be long before the republicans are no better than the democrats on this issue. Remember, the government that seeks to take away your guns is the government that seeks to enslave you.

It seems foreign to me as well, and I've been here all of my life. I live in what might be called a "rough" neighborhood. I don't own a gun. I have an alarm system, though.
