ORIGINAL: Ex-GOPer4Obama McCain is just trying to duck the debates, just like he did in 2000. McCain is scared to death of economics. How can you or anyone else fling around the words scared, coward, running away from debates about a man who spent years being tortured in a POW camp? It seems to me that words such as scared or frightened, being applied to McCain about a debate is off base. Secondly the debate is foreign affairs not the economy although the media asking the questions in the debate will undoubtly ask questions regarding the economy. Foreign affairs is one of McCain's strong suits thus making it ludicrious to state he is scared to debate Obama. Thirdly as has been stated repeatedly despite running for President and Vice President 3 of the candidates are sitting Senators who draw a salary, seeing as this is a Crisis I prefer my elected officials to do the job we the taxpayers pay them for, what is wrong with changing the debate until this is resolved? Would a day, 3 days, or a week make a difference in the grand scheme of things? While I disagree with McCain on many issues most notably immigration, however there are several others, I do believe he made the correct choice to put the country's needs before his own ambitions, which is also a pattern for this man, he is known to do the right thing instead of the politically correct or expedient thing, see staying in the POW camp and the Iraq surge to name but two major ones. OK. "Scared to death" may be a slight exaggeration. But if you check out the YouTubes, you'll find McCain wincing and groaning when an ecomonics question is asked. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTmIJ5Aag2Q Kind of reminds me of when a 3rd grader is asked to take out his math book. Given his bizarre statements about the Wall Street meltdown over the past couple weeks, it would certainly be understandable if Rove was advising him to weasel out of the debates. McCain is NOT on the Banking Committee and isn't even allowed in the room. Had Bush not arranged that dog-and-pony show at the White House, McCain would have rushed to Washington and had nothing to do. McCain has established the fact that he is weak on economics http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1X3efvVTLA, so why would anyone in Congress have any interest in listening to him? And according to those in attendance at the White House, McCain sat in that meeting and made ZERO contributions to the discussion!!! http://www.time-blog.com/swampland/2008/09/what_actually_happened_yesterd_1.html I'm sure Mr. Straighttalk's handlers cautioned him not to say anything stupid. Better to be silent and thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt. (Explains why the GOP has imposed a gag order on Palin!) I think that was the intent behind McCain's attempt to dodge the debate—that he not stick his foot in his mouth, such as when he expressed his wish that interest rates be 0%!!! As strong supporters of the deregulation that led to this crisis, McCain and his economics guru, Phil Gramm, have Wall Street's blood on their hands. It's a very inconvenient time for McCain to be seen in public trying to defend his record on economics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ng1yXgyY8Uo If McCain REALLY wanted to put "country first," he'd do the wise thing and make the suspension of his campaign permanent.

You sound more like a liberal lifer. Wouldn't you feel better if your candidate actually wins the election, and not be default because the other candidate dropped out? I'll tell you though, what would make me happy is if McCain dropped out and Obama still lost because people had enough sense to either get behind Baldwin or Barr.

Yeah, I was a Republican for over 20 years, but after 8 years of enduring the ignorance, arrogance, lies, and crookedness of Cheney, Bush, and all the little Bushies, I just had ENOUGH. If McCain wants to do the honorable thing and pull the ripcord on the Smear-Talk Express, I'd be fine with that. Hillary, Dishonest John McSame, and Caribou Barbie have been so nasty and mean-spirited. I am so tired of these people. In his heart, McCain MUST KNOW he is not smart enough to be president. He is SO CLUELESS about the economy. But he sure did demonstrate his leadership skills this past week, didn't he? I hope McCain didn't get injured patting himself on the back before the House's vote on the bailout—or get whiplash watching his fellow Republicans toss that bill back in his grill. For someone who has been on the political scene for so long, you'd think McCain would have had more sense than to jump out in front of the media and take credit for the least popular piece of legislation in 40 years. Just say goodnight, John.
