Republican Jeb Hensarling of Texas, a leading conservative, said the bill puts the country "on the slippery slope to socialism. If you lose your ability to fail, soon you will lose your ability to succeed." Story here. The Senate still has their version of the bill that will go to a vote this Wednesday ... How would you like the next President to react to this? If you are for Obama, what fo you want his reaction to be ... If you are for McCain, what do you hope his reaction will be to this news?

There shouldn't be a reaction at this point. what I want McCain and Obama to do is VOTE in the senate like they were elected to do. GH

I hope they vote against it. I'm against it. I said in another thread, I'm pretty much with the House Republicans on this. .

I wasn't for a 700 billion blank check, but I was hoping for bi-partisan outcome that would quell the bleeding a bit; but as it turns out stocks are dropping quickly, and that is mostly because of uncertainty.

Hopefully both McCain and Obama will vote against it, but that's not likely. McCain could redeem himself in time for the election if came up with a plan that didn't involve mass socialism. Maybe he could consult with Ron Paul, who has given several excellent interviews on this very topic the last few days. If only the Senate would come to their senses and vote against the bailout too! It could still happen.

I think part of the problem with finding a bi-partisan solution is right here.

I agree. There was a lot of mud slinging from primarily the dems during the discussion debate today. G

Tell it, brother. There are times when Congress should take decisive action and this is one. One problem is that the House members are all up for re-election (except for a few retiring) and a bunch are hoping their Nay votes will play well at home. They are doing what we often complain about: voting the polls instead of the problem.

Oh, I know - and a lot of politicians have been trying to play it both ways; they claimed the bill was neccesary, but then tried to win points by making it out to be a bill for the rich. If anything history should tell us anything, it's that bank closings and stock market plunges have much less effect on the rich than they do on the rest of us. I was also struck by Pelosi's accusation that it was the Bush policies that exemplified a 'free for all' mentality - think this video gives a pretty good idea where that mentality came from.

I was just hearing NBC that the Repubs that were on the fence were upset at Pelosi's stunt. G

I'm inclined to believe the defeat of this bailout bill was a good thing. Open up America, and take some medicine. It might taste yucky for awhile, but you'll feel better in the end.

Re: Pelosi's Youtube video that Jack linked The crisis snuck up on them?!!! Is she for real? When a bumpkin like me can tell for a couple of years or more that it's coming and the congress cannot, then something is wrong. I don't believe it, my friends. They are lying; they knew something was coming. If not they're idiots. Neither is a good state of affairs. Frankly, I think it's a mixture of both lying and stupidity brought on by the power addiction. Can she just spare us the finger pointing? It is BOTH parties. They are BOTH at fault. But frankly, Dodd and Frank should not be anywhere near this bill much less in positions of power on it.

In answer to the OP question: quote:
If you are for McCain, what do you hope his reaction will be to this news? I am severely disappointed in this. Yes, the Democrats put politics ahead of country. But hey! I got news for Juan McC. So do the Repubs!

I blame the GOP more than the Democrats. The Dems at least are don't even pretend to be anything other than socialist panderers. The Republicans have touted their "conservative" credentials for years while squandering their political capital. When the GOP controlled both Houses, with a Republican President and Republican-majority Supreme Court, entitlement spending increased the most it ever has. If the GOP keeps this up, look for a strong third-party conservative candidate in 2012.

It might taste yucky for awhile, but you'll feel better in the end. Then how much damage do you think gets done to the economy by having a financial system that's essentially locked up and unable to lend? To take this position, I think you have to believe that the damage will not be major and will be short-lived.
