I totally agree, IF it is as dire as they are portraying it to be, I would think they would see the need to resolve it immediately.

However, I think it would be more bothersome to some if it were a Muslim holiday.

Does the Congress even acknowledge Muslim holidays? If not, why not, based on the passage that the above poster posted?

I tried to find congressional holidays and came up with nothing. Maybe someone else can find them.

They weren't scheduled to be in session after September 26.

As far as the religious practice issue, according to the 1st Amendment it doesn't matter if someone is Muslim, Buddhist, Pagan or whatever. They have the right to worship without infringement, even those in public office. I do believe that if this was as critical as some are making this out to be then those who are not really observant Jews would be in session. JMO though.

The United States is not a Christian nation. It was founded on Judeo-Christian principles but we are not a theocracy. This is one of the High Holy Days in Judaism. Rosh Hashanah is biblical if you want to get technical.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Thanks StephK, I thought I was the only one that thought that way! Most Christians have no clue about the Jewish faith which was the faith of Jesus and our Christian Founding Fathers. People forget that Jesus practiced Judaism while taking it to the next (and final) level.

Christians need to know their heritage. It also helps with their knowledge of the OT as well!
