You can make apple butter in the slow cooker too as well as applesauce, apple crisp, baked apples, caramel apples...

Since I'm a little short of cash and it may be some time before I can get caught up does anybody have any ideas for Christmas presents I can make fairly cheaply? I have two granddaughters that will be 2.* Nieces that are 3, 4, 5, 8, 14 and 18 (I think) and a stepdaughter that's 20. Nephews that are 9, 10, 14 and just turning 16 right after Christmas.

All the little girls got dolls I made last year, so I think dolls are out this year.

I also have a 14 yo son, almost 22 yo son and his wife to give presents to.

*The 2 granddaughters both belong to the same son, different mothers. Born a month apart. They're opposites in looks, one brown eyed brunette, one blue eyed blond, both adorable of course LOL He has custody of one of them and recently married a very sweet girl that his brown-eyed baby girl calls Mommy.

Here is something you could give to the eldest and his wife....maybe with some older photos of him at Christmas or something.

Here are some free teddy bear patterns.

One of the BEST Christmas gifts my Mother in law EVER gave me wasz a photo album with ALL of Honey's school photos in it. It also contained every "Photo album" photo we'd ever sent her. Huge 3" thing. Sure she was cleaning up after My Father in law passed on and felt the need to make sure we all got these things(she had 11 kids, Jerry is #10) I cherish this album.

Oh yah!!!! One year Grandma gave all her kids what we grandkids called "Funny Books". Grandma had sorted all the family photos and gave each kid their own photo album. We enjoyed looking back and laughing at how funny they all looked back then!

For one of Grandpa's last birthdays someone gathered up photos of him with all of his cars. That was priceless...

I think I should have put the cattle prod on the charger last night. Ds4 is in rare form.

Oh boy, am I earning my pay the past two days! Garrett's mom is out of town and he has been a pistol!

First of all, he lies. He lies to try to get his way when he is unhappy with what he needs to do. But the worst part is, his self-righteous protestations that he was not lying even when everyone knows he IS LYING!

It is so dramatic and whiny and full of baloney. He seems to think that if he refuses to acknowledge his guilt, then he truly is innocent and I am the one behaving badly!

Well, nipped that in the bud big time this morning. I told him I would not be bullied by him emotionally.

Of course he protested his innocence, but I stood firm. I told him you are using emotion to try to bully people into agreeing with you and giving you your way, and it absolutely will not be tolerated at all.

I have a list of consequences that will apply if he does not stop after one warning. Plus I have given him the option of calling "time-out" like in basketball and going to get control of himself in another room.

But emotional outbursts will NOT be tolerated in this house!

After throwing a hissy and getting to consequence level one, he called a time-out, got himself under control and is happily doing his school work.

Score one for SS!

My mom made the kids photo albums several years ago. now every year they give them back a couple weeks before their birthday and she updates it with pictures from the year. OK, I give them back and we all pretend it's a big secret that she is getting them back and that they are surprised when they open their albums every year.

That is the sweetest idea ever, Zoe. Your mom is very thoughtful.

taking pictures and then cropping them and adjusting them and stuff is a bit of a hobby for her. I joke that she views life through a camera lens...although not as bad as Ezri...just major events. I'd rather just see it happening.

He is eleven, and consequences start off with a letter of apology, next 10 push-ups, next copy work in cursive 10x. 20x. 30x, etc.

At any time he may call a time-out and go calm himself down without penalty.

These are also the consequences for whining, complaining, or trying to negotiate assignments. I actually made a list of his most common whines so he would know exactly what I mean by whining.

He truly does know what he is doing when he lies.

Good for you, Shadowspring!!

Why can't people answer a simple question? I got the song list for dances for this week. There are songs listed for Saturday. Huh?! Last I heard, Saturday was going to be another social event sharing a meal in the Sukkah after Torah-no music. I emailed the person that sent me the list and asked her if we now had a service on Saturday, since that was not my understanding.

There has been no response. Since we do not normally have service on Saturday, it would be good to know if they are changing that for this week and it would also be good to know what time we are having this on Saturday.

Guess I'll find out on Friday night-if they remember to announce it.

Awesome! I am going to use that!

That has been my biggest parental struggle, figuring out what consequences without getting frustrated and unleashing the wrath of mommy!

Hi All. I finally caught up, but can't remember what I wanted to comment on. I am in a bad mood & trying to get out of it. I know what set it off & it really shouldn't be that big of a deal, but somehow I'm letting it be. Ds put his large sized foot in his mouth at MOPS this morning & said as we were leaving the playroom "G's mom hurry up and get here". Of course, his mom was standing right by the door! So, she took him & said she'd come back for his bag. I told ds that I'm sure he made her feel bad. The coordinator pulled me aside afterward & said the mom was really upset about it. I told her that G had been fussy, but that my ds was only joking when he said that. I talked with ds afterward about watching what you say (even in jest) because you never know who is listening & how you might hurt them. Anyway, I fretted about it all the way home & sent an e-mail to the coordinator saying: "Could you let G's mom know that he really was not fussing the whole time today & did have fun and play. Unfortunately, my son is 13 & has big feet that he often puts in his mouth. He was just kidding & was not at all exasperated with G (which it may have seemed to her). I don’t want her to think that he was miserable the whole time & we didn’t come & get her! I hope she comes back & I will understand if she decides to put him in another class." Anyway, there's not much else I can do.

On a good note - the computer parts came in & dh fixed ours last night! It is so quiet & so far no glitches!!!

I do not answer the phone during school time. No one even bothers calling anymore because I do not answer the phone. When I used to answer the phone, it would wreck my whole day. I don't even answer if it's an emergency with my dad. It's not my emergency. He pays people to handle his emergencies. I have had it with emergencies that set me back days at a time. No more.

Good point. But I just put my house (the one for sale) up for rent or lease-option, and I have received several phone calls about that already. Being a real estate agent, I really have to answer my phone most of the time. Not fun, and I should probably put it aside more, but it is just the nature of the business.

I totally agree with cynthia.

In fact, the first entry on the "Tips for New Homeschoolers" that my old support group used to hand out, was in bold, over-sized print:

#1 Get an answering machine and use it. Do not pick up the phone until school is finished for the day.

Our president's answering machine says, "hello, you have reached......If you are calling before 1:00, we are still in school, so please leave a message. All other callers, leave a message and we will get back to you at our earliest possible convenience. "

You would not believe how many calls she would otherwise get from people during the school day. They still call and leave plenty of messages, believe me!

I cross-posted with you, Misa. Having to work and home school at the same time would be tough!

Hello everyone,

It is distracting here today, too. The kids did most of their school work, then one of them got called to do a job for an elderly lady. So, now I'm waiting for him to return home so that I can finish school. I've also been helping Dh with filling out an application and working with Noah's eye patching. He did great today!

Dh has a job interview on Friday. The actual job would be nice for him, but he does have to be on the volunteer fire team. He doesn't like that idea.

That might not be a bad thing. He'd be meeting more people in the community and be aware of needs when they came up. It could open up avenues for witnessing.

I didn't know you were a real estate agent. I still would set aside time for school and time for answering calls. You can't do everything at the same time. Put a message on your machine stating that if they are calling about the house, you will be available to return calls after say 12:00. People have scheduled times they are and are not available. You have to set some boundaries and not let one aspect of your life take over the rest if you want to be successful at them all. There has to be a balance.

I totally agree! I tend to be a little scattered with stuff like that, I tend to do five things at once... can't I? Aren't I SuperMom??
No? Okay, I guess not! LOL

Yup, I am an agent in Indiana (not Ohio). I am the listing agent on the house that we are trying to sell, so it is doubly frustrating for me!
After our house sells, I am not sure if I will get my OH license, as the market is so tough. But it will turn around eventually, and maybe I will then.
