I got an extra "dummy" key that only unlocks the van. When I was swimming at the lake I didn't want to swim with my key, because that could mess up the wizardry in the key. I didn't want to leave the key on the beach becasue someone could easily take my keys and using the idiot button figure out which vehicle it belonged to. So I had a "dummy" key made that only unlocks the door. I'd lock the real key in the van and swim with the dummy. My allergies are TERRIBLE this morning. Dh got me a dozen yellow roses for our anniversary and they have been spewing out the mold. Ds2 and I have been miserable. I slept downstairs last night and this morning my eyes are plastered shut and my nose is running. I feel bad about it but I put the flowers outside this morning...

You can buy crickets at the pet store. Thanks Jen! That will be our next course of action if we are unable to catch any! We had several in our garage earlier in the year, but I am thinking it's getting too cool at night for them now. Melissa - the experiment is simple. You get a shoe box (cardboard or plastic) and put 4 different materials in the corners (things like grass clippings, dry leaves, moss, wood shavings, a crumpled up piece of black plastic garbage bag). Then you spray it all evenly with a water spray bottle (because crickets like moist areas). You pieces of potato in the middle of the box to give the crickets food/water. Then you check on them periodically to see which environment they prefer. Oh yeah - poke holes in the lid so they have air too! I'm thinking of using a plastic box because then maybe we can see them w/o taking the lid off. Either that or taking the lid off outside, so if one escapes it's not in our house! BTW - our anniversary is Tuesday!! Hope you feel better so you can enjoy your weekend! quote:
Why, oh why must ds4 savor his grammar??? Hazel - this made me laugh!! I love the way you put it "savor his grammar" - I may borrow that sometime!! Cindy - praying for your finger!!! We had a dummy key made for dh's car too! He was able to get me a real one (with the chip & all) for $25, but his car is a pretty old model, so that may be why it was so cheap (relatively speaking - $25 is still a lot for a key! )! We have a "play date" at the park this afternoon. We're bringing our lunch & meeting friends. That means everyone needs to have most of their work done (all would be better) before we have to leave! They both have math tests today, so that should take less time! (should being the operative word there!)

The FBI agent called to inform my mom that Monday is the day. It is so sad that we will have to read about everything in the newspaper about my brother:( After Monday, I will tell you all what is going on. Until then... as far as I know... there is still an investigation and probably will be for some time and I can't take a chance on jeapordizing that by putting things on a public forum. When does the time change beging???

I got a great deal at the grocery store today. I saved about $45. Plus I had enough gas points to fill up my van for $2.09. THey have been having these s pecials where if you buy x number of products on a list you get axtra gas points: plus 1 point/$. 100 points gets you 10 cents a gallon. This week ifyou bought 3 value packs of certain meets you got 400 points.

Going shopping to prepare for Caleb's b'day. We had bought extra books in case the adoption had gone through. They have been wreaking mental havoc so I am trying to sell them. It may prove harder now that BJU is changing around. I need the money from then, and I am also dealing with trying not to let myself become depressed over this. Please pray that I can find buyers for the books quickly and easily.

I hardly slept last night because I could not get into a position where my shoulder did not hurt. It has never lasted this long before (going on two weeks now) Nate's friends are NOT coming for the weekend. Poor kid. I, too, am stuffy this morning. I slept with my window open so that is probably the reason.

Hi everybody, I've been so busy and missed you all...it's been a couple weeks. Happy Fall! I just wish we'd get some in Florida! Our 'cold front' means it's in the high 80's this week. I am taking the day off from our curriculum and would like to not feel guilty about that. I'm behind in laundry and cleaning and everything else, so today, Alex will help me with cleaning. As much as he can, he's only 4. By the way, he'll be 5 on Monday!!! We didn't have the money for birthday presents, but at CVS I found some deals on their summer toys! They were all 90% off! So I got him some squirt guns, some rubber fish and a bubble gun for 25-50 cents each!! I'll get him a matchbox car too and I got a free Fisher Price DVD in the mail to give him, so I think he'll be happy with that. I remember my Dad telling me how when he was little, in the 40's, everybody forgot his birthday and his sister remembered at the end of the night and gave him a pair of socks. Things aren't too much better for us! Did I ramble about a bunch of stuff you really could care less about? Feels like it , i'm sorry! some days I just need a friend who understands. Don't have any of those, that understand the sacrifice we make to school our children and stay home with our children. I love you guys!!!

Mom24blessings, I think he'll be thrilled with those presents. What you're doing is so important, don't beat up on yourself. I can think of many families where both parents worked and the children had every toy, designer clothing item, or sports equipment you could imagine. It was never enough. When the focus is on stuff, it's never enough. Hang in there and keep building those relationships and instilling those values. You're making the right choices.

LOL!!! You know those "super energy" drinks? The ones with mega doses of vitamin B? I can just imagine what those would do to you! Still battling "allergies". Because it hasn't responded to my allergy meds, I can only assume one thing. It's not allergies. It's a cold. ACK!!!! This can not be happening!!! I'm two weeks out from my marathon. I don't have time for a cold right now! I bought a pineapple earlier this week, so I ate a bunch of it as I was cutting it up. Hopefully the extra fiber won't cause an issue on my run tomorrow...

Ezri, I think you could sell that photo, as in mass market it. It is really excellent. Wow! Rod and Staff already shipped my order. I should get it between Monday and Wednesday of next week. After all that searching and one day, bam, there it is. Hopefully this will help MM penmanship. That is a big issue we are working on this year. She at sixth grade and needs to come up in several areas. She is such a smart little cookie, but with her struggles I've let some things slide while focusing hard in other areas. Learning disabilities can really mess with your schedule!

I think I am embracing my relaxed-ness in our homeschool this week. Nate seems to work better if he's had an hour or more since breakfast to play on his computer, watch an episode of Magnum or something like that. And lately we have even been beginning 'school time' with a DVD (we have been watching When We Left Earth and Engineering An Empire). He also stops frequently to eat. If I leave him alone on these things and don't push, we seem to get a lot done, cheerfully.

Agreed. Ezri, you HAVE to do something with that photo!!! Cynthia--your order shipped already?! I placed an order for new running shoes last week. I called them this afternoon. They might ship this afternoon. I had hoped to have new shoes for my run tomorrow... Ds1 has been doing "relaxed learning" this week, too. He's had his nose in National Geographic all week. Then, he stumbled upon an Ohio History magazine, and read that.

My hearing today is supersonic and it's driving me crazy. Overnight a bunch of leaves fell and they are rustling due to breeze or the dog next door or people walking by and it startles me every time it happens. My computer sound is turned down but I STILL feel like I am in a wind tunnel when someone signs online. Noises from the basement and cats keep making me turn around. ARgh!

Handwriting-- www.donnayoung.org has an article on using composition notebooks for remedial handwriting lessons, and she also has fonts to use. That's what Nate is using this year, and it is helping. You print off sentences in the handwriting font, paste that on one side, and then write the sentence in your own handwriting (so that they can learn to decipher others' writing since we all change it in some way) and then have them write it three times themselves. It's really making a difference here. You could do the same with the penmanship paper. I have Nate do it right off the bat each day, and then I look at it and sometimes there's a letter he needs practice on. I use tongue twisters for his sentences, btw. Why? Because they are funny, easy to google, and tend to repeat one letter or letter combo several times in each sentence, so it's a way of concentrating on that letter/combo.

That's a good idea, Jennifer. I am having the three younger children focus on penmanship this year. Mr. Manly had a terrible time writing until recently. This year, he has still not developed his muscles enough to write a lot, but he is improving tons since we started back with lessons. At first he balked at having to write much at all, but I told him he won't improve without giving it a real effort and working hard at it and that his hand would be sore for a couple weeks, then he'd get used to it. He has gotten used to it. It's amazing how much he can write and how much faster he has gotten over a few weeks practice. This is great! Now MM needs to work hard to get her handwriting to look neat. Previously the goal was to be able to read it. That took a couple of years and it was a struggle for her, so I wasn't going to stress her out over something she was physically incapable of. Now she has gotten better and is writting quite fast, but not neatly. It is time for her to learn to have tidy handwriting. The Rod and Staff paper is already helping her to understand where her problems lie and to write more neatly. Hopefully by the end of this year she will have significantly improved and we can say her penmanship is neat. Mr. Manly may take a couple more years before we get to that point. We are doing quite a few things differently this year. It is working well, except that I am quite maxed out and am still not getting everything done. It is getting better though. Dh is going to be out of state for about ten days. During that time, I hope to be able to get into a new routine, including the evening. I'm afraid he is going to lose his computer game time, as I am going to be on it in the evening working on school stuff. I think it's hard for him to fathom how much time it takes me to prepare lessons and run the household. I don't know how you women with more than three or four children manage. TL has had a lot of trouble learning to be tidy. Her room is in a constant state of dissaray. It is terrible. This morning I told her that if she cannot keep a tiny little space tidy, she will have a much worse time keeping a household running properly. Add to that a couple kids, maybe even five or ten and it only gets harder. She has a place for everything. She just needs to put it there!
