Since we live on one income - and since our budget is fairly bare bones. We should be ok. Even if my dh lost his job. Which at this point has been fairly insulated. quote:
"However, we are hansel and grettle while they are witches dangling candy before our eyes. Now, we are in the oven and it is just now starting to warm up." Adults who bought mortgages they could not afford - are not children. I was offered more and did not take it. I was tempted. But I know when someone tries to offer me something for nothing- and I take it - I am just being greedy. I understand it, I empathize, I do get wanting to get something that I wanted and was not going to be able to get. And ignoring the red flags. Yes the companies are guilty - yes the govt is guilty - especially because of the mandate. But main street is also guilty. And we cannot deny it, no matter how much we want to.

ORIGINAL: GroupW LOL - the good ones, anyway. The not-so-good one's account for all the broken windows in the high-rises downtown. Most day traders that I know (have known) are in it for the thrill of the 'Play", like a Vegas gambler. Thanks RC

Considering how low it went today, I don't see how it could be a thrill.

The fundemental problem I see is this - the boom was fueled by easy credit which was fueled in turn by speculator greed. For example, house prices multiplied because speculators got it into their heads that they would continue to increase at huge rates into the infinite future. (I dont understand why they thought that). That left people who had bought a house at say $100000, with a $50000 mortgage, suddenly with a house worth say $200000. Feeling rich, they then borrowed more to fund new fridges, tvs, cars, vacations etc. It was this credit based spending that then fueled sharemarket gains. One of the most well known economists in our country (New Zealand) commented on the US bank bail out plans, that he did not place much faith in it to turn things around, because at most, it was going to give the bears a moments pause before they resumed their run. Appears that he is right on. Personally, to answer the question, I think its going to be a long hard economic winter, and a very long time before property and stock values rise to near previous values.

This past week has seen the largest increase in the market since 1974. How did your 401Ks do? Hopefully some happiness has returned to your financial lives - at least temporarily. Like RC said about day traders - the market was very good to me this week. I hope others can say the same thing.
