To a degree, yeah. At the very least, be skeptical of it and go try interacting with real people and see if what I say is true.

Sure thing... I hope I can find my way out of the cave... The idea that people aren't not always honest on the net surely is a revelation... Of course the idea they are more honest in person to make a difference is the real question...

I have to agree with iluvatar. When people are in person you can look them in the eye. You can also surmise if they are telling the truth by their body language and this makes it harder for them to lie.

It makes it harder for them to lie but not to some degree that it's going to make a difference... Of course them telling a lie is really no big deal so its really moot point...

I'm not even talking about lying per se. It's more of an issue of how we converse with each other, what things really matter to people, and whether or not we're getting carried away with things.

The rules of conversation on the internet are much different than they are IRL and it's easy to lose perspective if the only place you discuss issues is withing the safe confines and relative anonymity of a message board.
