Hi Ginny, I have been taking showers. Its hard to tell if I am really congested or not. My cough is mostly a dry cough, but I am coughing up a little fluid, which seems to clear my throat. Its the sleeping part then waking up with this sudden gasp of breathe that really gets me concerned though.

I'll let John tell how he broke his leg. But as background, I'll explain: 1. We both use wheelchairs. 2. We met online. 3. I was on my third visit from California. 4. He had rented a wheelchair van for my attendant, so she could drive us arond Boston.

And although I did use a lap seat belt I did not use shoulder strap belt so when our attendent had to hit the brakes I "broke" my fall forward by putting both hands on my right knee. Ouch. All that extra pressue broke the two bones below the knee. Because I haven't walked since I got polio at age 6 my leg bones are not very strong. As I just said, ouch.

Very ouch! Ok, I just weezed again, but I seem to be ok. I wasn't gasping for air at all, just coughing, and this immediately after thinking "gee, I feel really well!" When I broke my arm it was during a bad snowstorm back on December 30, 2000, do you remember that one John? Well, it all turned to rain after just an inch of snow and they had been expecting at least a foot. Anyway, I was getting ready for the Bible study in the town that I lived in at the time, and there was this area that wasn't shoveled at all and was very slippery. I actually did ok walking over that but was going to the pizza shop to eat something before the study. While I was walking back, I remembered the very slippery part and thought I am gonna cross the street because there is no way I am stepping on that again! So I cross and when I reach the sidewalk, I step on what looks like solid ice, but then I start to slip and my thought was "I am starting *BANG* to slip!" See, it happen so fast that I hadn't even finished my thought before it happened! I went to then wipe my head and got disorriented when I did not feel my hand on my head after telling it to do so. I knew then that I had broken it. It was actually the town that didn't take all the necessary steps to make sure that the sidewalks were ok. I did not end up sueing them at all though, and things did work out, sort of with the medicals and all.

ORIGINAL: saraimay75 Sadly I know what you mean. A couple of my classmates who work in preschools have gotten sick. It pretty much goes a long with the job when you work with young children. Anyhoo, when they got sick they have not been allowed to take time off. Their bosses insisted they come in otherwise they would be short staffed. and as long as you did not talk to the parent that it was fine. Unfortunatly this was kinda difficult because when you working as a preschool teacher parents want to talk to you. And you as a teacher want to talk to parents. quote:
ORIGINAL: humbleinspirit Now Sara, that is even a worse policy! Yeah one of the schools that does it is a school for the rich parents preschoolers. There are BMWs Jaguars and Mersedes (sp?). Add to that a Director who has a degree in Early Childhood Education but has the minmum teaching experience. The classroom are full of Lakeshore products; http://www.lakeshorelearning.com/home/home.jsp. (lakeshore is a provider of learning supples and furniture) I very much like Lakeshore but it cannot be the only thing in the classroom. These are place that I want to avoid because i more about money then children. But at the same time work at these schools to help the children.

Yeah, anytime a company is more about money than the product there are problems.

When there is snow or ice on a street or sidewalk it sometimes is difficult to determine how slippery it is. One day my Dad was walking along a Boston sidewalk with a thin layer of snow that was not slippery at all. Then suddenly up went the feet and down with a bang he went, breaking an ankle and wrist. Why was the sidewalk so slippery right there and not elsewhere? As he lay there he figured it out when cars drove by and splashed some water from a puddle on the street onto that part of the sidewalk. Just enough to sink through the layer of snow and then freeze on the sidewalk surface. He'd been on his way to work in the payroll department of Mass. General Hospital that monring but instead wound up in the emergency room instead.

Hi John, Deb and Judy! I am feeling a bit better today for the most part, but still not feeling 100%. I am not coughing nearly as much and am still taken over the counter meds. I did change it from Advil to Tylenol though. That seems to have made a bit of a difference! I am still gonna rest a bit later on. I went for a walk today by the beach. Nothing profound, but just needed to do something other than just staying in and vegging. Regarding slipping on ice/snow. The ice that I had slipped on is what I call white ice. This is the kind that while doesn't look slippery and is clear, is very much the opposite instead. Thank you all for popping in! Please pray for me because I am feeling kinda down about life right now too.

I don't want you to get depressed so just know that I care and I know that you have a lot of friends right here on the forums that care too.

The main feeling I get now is "overwhelming sense of sadness". That is when I work very hard to not let the devil have his way and get totally depressed. usually there is a triggering event and if I can find that, I can work on overcoming. God bless my friend!

Is it clinical depression? My chronic depression was nothing more than self-pity. Once I chose to be joyful, it vastly improved. But often, depression is chemical, and requires medical treatment. Have you talked with your doctor about it?

I do take medication, when I miss a dose I do feel much worse! I do not know if it is clinical or not clinical, I just know that things seem more on an even keel when I do not miss any doses at all.

I am also glad its the weekend too! Ok, I am up very late catching up on all of my forums subs. I decided that I was gonna hit the hay at 2AM but didn't. I was kinda hoping for this thread to come up before I went to bed and it finally did! Now I will read about 2 more and then call it a night for real! I hope everyone is well and having a good weekend so far! Blessings, Mike
