I just got a blast from the past, Saga's "Worlds Apart". Saga was a Canadian prog rock band, their prime was in the 80s (this release is from 1981). They had some elements of Rush (the prog parts) and Alan Parsons Project (the melding of prog with current at the time pop stylings). They weren't particularly heavy (keys and drums dominate the mix) but there was some interesting stuff there. The biggest song from this release was "On the Loose' which got MTV and rock radio airplay. My favorite song was the other one that got radio airplay "Wind Him Up". So any thoughs, comments or memories. Maybe Humble's heard of them, he seems to know quite a bit about 80s music. Here's a link to where you can hear the two aforementioned songs: linky

I couldn't find any of their albums in my stuff, but I'm pretty sure I played "On The Loose" more than a few times when I was a DJ on the old college radio station. Good tunes - very "80s".

Good tunes - very "80s". Very true.

They're supposed to be getting a new lead singer soon (if they haven't already). A guy I used to work with was trying to audition for the gig via youtube videos. He didn't get it, but I was surprised at how good he was. -Dan.

Never was a big prog rock guy, but I've heard them a time or two.

i actually liked when the dj talked, it takes me back to my youthful days and tell my son about the beginning of MTV, VIDEO GAMES(remember tv tennis with the blip characters) and when his grandma had an afro like angela davis.

Saga - that takes me back. Still got "Wind Me Up" on a tape somewhere, and their guitarist did some sessions for an Asia album (Aura) I own. Decent prog rock band.

LOL. I liked DJ talk too but not when I was trying to tape a song I really liked. I miss DJs that were hip without being "edgy"or profane. Of course I miss radio that plays stuff other than the flavas of the month. But I digress. Its nice to know that people remember them. quote:
Decent prog rock band. That about sums them up but I got a huge soft spot for the 80s, warts and all.

In my sheltered 80s environment, all I knew of rock was Petra until like 1988 when I discovered Stryper. So, I never heard of Saga before. This was a Christian band, yes?

Ah, yes Saga...I think its "Worlds Apart" that I have. ...very good album. Too bad they didn't do as well as some of the other groups of the time.

ah, the days of listening to the radio, waiting for your favorite song to record it to cassette(i really miss those days) , the younger generation don`t know what they missed out on. i can still listen to my old cassette tapes and remember where i was and that is the fun part.
