I'd like to join, but I am afraid I am a lost cause. Everywhere I look in my house is a mess, everywhere there is something that needs doing. So much so that I'd be too embarrassed to have anyone round for coffee, let alone a meal. But I'll give this a try, if you like.

I am cleaning right now , I am getting rid of a bunch of stuff (everything I don't need) but in the meantime its pretty messy. I am going to do the necessary stuff (bathroom was cleaned yesterday) but I guess I am just working on one room at a time. Then when its done I have to finish inventorying stuff for insurance.

Have you ladies ever heard of Flylady? You can find her at FlyLady.net. She has really helped me in house messyness: I don't currently subscribe to her helpful emails, but I will be rejoining as soon as school is over in December to get back into better habits. It's a very unthreatening approach, too. She helps you take it baby step by baby step, building better habits and before you know it, your house is company presentable at almost any time day or night! I was so grateful I had been following her baby steps when my husband was killed: my house was ready for the influx of family and friends. That was 10 years ago! shallbe

I read it and signed up for it once and it flooded my email box or filled up my calendar and so I removed it. It might work for others.

I signed up for it once as well... and the emails I got were all at the wrong time for me because of the time difference! The site does have some useful information though...

I removed it, but some still get through. I thought I'd share something in this thread that might make you laugh. I am a former tidy living in a house with three untidies and I've lowered my standards (just a little) for my own sanity! I was telling dd (who is 5) that we needed to clean her room one day last week. Trying to bolster my point, I went on that my mommy and daddy didn't allow me to keep my room messy when I was little. She replied, "How sad." Today I folded all the clean clothes that I left on the couch yesterday before I left for work. A small victory, but the LR looks so much better!

Can I play too? You can't work thru my house. It is scary. I've been out of work for a month and have nothing to show for it. Maybe some accountability would help. I make lists and I feel overwhelmed by what is on them so I don't start and then I'm angry at myself for failing so I mope and don't do anything. And Flylady lost me years ago. I like the idea, but not the approach.

It was suggested to me that I put 3 things* on a list that I have to do, and 3 more things that I may be able to do if I complete the first 3. That's worked better for me. * Cleaning the house may be 1 thing, but it needs to be broken down (so while my whole bedroom needs sorting, the fact I did the clothes was 1 thing. Hmmm... seem to be missing 2 things! Now... back to the vacuum... I like this idea personally! I've heard that they are excellent, but you need to keep them away from stairs. They are supposed to have a sensor that keeps them from going down the stairs, but that doesn't always work.

Ah, Agapetos, you've hit my huge weakness. My house is a mess and it's about to eat me. I've got an endocrine problem and deal with exhaustion all the time, but still, how long does it take to wash a dish? My kid is now in college, so I work on 1) getting enough sleep (don't laugh - I was sleep deprived for years), 2) getting food to our mouths in a sanitary way and 3) washing clothes. The person who invented washers and dryers should have been showered with gold. I'm trying to sand down DD's walls so I can plaster and paint them next week (she'll be home for summer soon) and take truck loads of junk from our farm (neighbor has a truck and a heart of gold). Where did all this stuff come from???? So the junk truck and room painting is new, but I'd sure like to get the cat hair off the floors every day. My dryer died last week, so clothes are drying on racks. Wrinkled, but at least they are clean. Anyone want to come over and help? You can feed the baby chicks!

Where did all this stuff come from???? When you find the answer to that, let me know! We recently moved (partially) across country. I could not believe all of the junk I left on the curb for the junk man! Honestly! In our new house, which is much smaller, at least 1/3 of our stuff is still in the garage and I couldn't even tell you what most of it is! One of the tips that I really have tried to incorporate into my lifestyle is "only touch a piece of paper once." Meaning, that when you get the mail or whatever, either file it, toss it or otherwise put it where it goes. I have a bad habit of letting paper pile up-- easy to do when you have little artists in residence!

Unless it's raining out, I sort through everything right there and I toss all the junk mail into the appropriate can.

Spring Cleaning!!!! One closet at a time! At least, that's how I start. It may not sound like much, but I have to do this every year. Remove everything from the closet - walk-in, accordian door, regular hallway, whatever size - and sort in 3 piles. TOSS KEEP GIVEAWAY and then I just do it. It is quite freeing. I'm on closet #3 this coming weekend. In other rooms that are cluttered or over-crowded, I dvidie it up into sections. For example in my kitchen, I have a cupboard and a bookshelf...each was it's own project.
