I have the strangest desire to vacuum.

I work in a preschool which is appropiate since I want to be a preschool teacher. Anyhoo we have a toy vacuum cleaner in our "Home Area" and the is one little boy who loves to push the vacuum cleaner all around the room. It quite cute.

I had a bunch of cleaning stuff arrive today. I have to try it out...

It arrived when I was at the doctor's and I unpacked it and sorted out what stuff needed to be upstairs and then crawled into bed for a few hours.

Well, actually, I have this "thing" about dirty toilets, so they never really need cleaning at my house. That and the catbox are probably the only things that get cleaned daily.

A clean commode does not make for a clean house. I've still been able to avoid the crave to cave to the vacuum. I don't know how much longer I can keep from caving. I should be OK today because I'm going to go help out at a garage sale for a friend.

A friend was going to help me clean today, but we decided that our help was needed more at the garage sale. I'm proud to say that after being in the heat all day, I have no desire to vacuum.

Did some laundry today and then hung some clothes that I hadn't put away the other day (and the clothes that I washed today!) and put clean sheets on my bed. Also remembered to put the bin out to be emptied tomorrow!

I think I've realised that while the house isn't great yet, I'm slowly getting things organised and, when using something, putting it back where it should be or giving it a place to live.

I'm in that place, too. Trying to learn new habits so I don't undo the progress I make.

I had a fairly productive weekend. Did all the laundry, took out two bags of junk. Plus, I scrubbed the trash can, always a dreaded task. Then I vacuumed some, cleaned junk off the table, and put clothes away.

I cleaned the kitchen on Friday. Got almost everything done. Also most of the dining room. Now for the shocker...it is Thursday, nearly a week later, and the kitchen is still CLEAN, except for the dishes waiting to go in the dishwasher. The freezer is defrosted and all the stuff we won't eat is taken out--will give some to friends and the really old stuff in the trash.

I have a few days off work and hope to get the living room and my bedroom close to finished so I can start on my son's room when he goes to his father on Monday.

Good for you creationtalk! How lovely to have a clean kitchen!

I've been neglecting everything recently ~ or so it seems. I have done some stuff in the kitchen today though and will probably do some more before bed tonight.

My very unique motivation is....

Had a card from the electric company to say they called to read my metre. I decided to do the reading myself and sent it online. When I checked, I'd been sent an 'estimated' bill. Spoke with someone on Saturday and they claim that my metre reading hasn't changed from January when I last read it (but offered no explanation as to why they hadn't used those readings). Anyhow... they want someone to come out and change the metre (can't think why!) so I need to clear space so they can get into the cupboard where the metre is stored to remove the old one and replace it.

Fortunately they're not coming until next Tuesday, so I have some time to do all that... though why I'm starting on the kitchen which has no connection whatsoever to the metre cupboard is beyond me!

I am pleased with what I did today though.

I had an unproductive, emotionally charged, anxiety-ridden weekend...so my house is a wreck right now.

I'm just about to that point when my anger gets worked out by banging around some pots and pans, mops and buckets, bleach and cleaners...so I'll probably be doing a room each night after work this week.

be angry and sin not...yeh right...

At least, I look forward to a sparkling house by the end of the week!

Okay...here's something...embarrassing.

The last week or so I've noticed this horrific smell in my house. I didn't even investigate what it was, it was so bad.

This weekend the boys were going around sniffing things and unfortunately everything they smelled, smelled bad.

Finally Thing 2 was like, "Whoa! I found it!" and he came out of the den with a shirt in his hand. Apparently it was his and he spilled milk on it.

So I told him to throw it in the washer and he threw it in the laundry room. Where it sat for through another load stinking up the other end of my house.

But I didn't notice it because I haven't cleaned my den in like...forever...LOL

Uggle Tinkerbell... but at least you know what it was and it wasn't a dead mouse or something!

I did a bit more in the kitchen. Am going to put my dustbin out, my neighbour's dustbin out (she's gone camping and I offered) and change the sheets on my bed ~ then get in it and hopefully sleep for more than the 3-4 hours I got last night.

Tinkerbell, watched an episode of 'How Clean is Your House' and the family had a dead mouse in a kitchen drawer ~ the mother was asked 'Didn't you notice the smell?' she responded 'Yes, but I thought it was the brocolli!'

On the programme they suggested putting some exfoliated gloves on over ordinary rubber gloves and use it on kitchen surfaces and stuff to shift marks and stuff. I thought it was a useful tip.

Not to mention the tip about putting a layer of clear nail varnish around the bases of tins and sprays so that if they're set down on a slightly damp surface, they won't leave rust marks.

Put my sheets in the wash today. My sink is empty and vaguely clean (I use a bowl to wash dishes). Doesn't mean all the dishes are clean, but I can at least get to the sink to wash some now!

Going back to 'How Clean Is Your House'... after the house has been cleaned, everyone says (on the return visit) that it takes 'No time' to clean. This is true ~ when the house is clean. I'm a long way from that. However, I do think that it takes 'No time' for me to put laundry away after it's been washed and 'No time' for me to give a kitchen surface a quick wipe ~ even 'No time' for me to really clean the bathroom (which is the cleanest room in the house).

It is a reminder that while my house may not be perfect, I can stop it from becoming worse by doing these little things ~ and I can be making a dent in the rest of the house at the same time.

My husband hates brocolli...he would've agreed with the mom about the smell.

"No time"...doesn't really translate well to computer time...which equates "it'll only take a second" to an hour of mindless activities waiting for the "computer second" to be completed - oh that might be when I can do some of the chores that take "no time."

I think you're doing really great with keeping up your house. I've learned a lot and get inspiration from you gals in here.

and I use a bowl, too for washing up dishes - it's an old vintage enamel one that my grandma used.

Hmmm... porcelain and me... sounds somewhat dangerous to me! I'm good at breaking stuff...

I've never seen a washing up bowl with tea roses on it... I may consider buying one if I did... as long as it wasn't porcelain!

Mine is old and beat up kinda like this but with roses in the bottom of it.

I have a smaller one that sits on my sink to hold the scrubbie pads and brush I use for cleaning and scraping..
