For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver. He paid for you with the precious lifeblood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose him for this purpose long before the world began, but now in these final days, he was sent to the earth for all to see. And he did this for you. 1 Peter 1:18-20

Today started off busy. I had the political meeting for candidate John Denney and Jim wanted to go and film the middle school girl’s softball game. I dropped him off and went a back way from there to Carrollton. It was a lot closer that way. I only stayed 30 minutes and told them I’d come back. I’m glad I did because the girls were so far ahead that the game was ‘won’ by default in the 5th inning. I got to the school just about 15 minutes before it was over. I saw a girl from my Sunday School class and talked to her. I saw her mom, but she was talking to some women and I waited a few minutes and then left. She didn’t see me.

We went back to campaign headquarters and I got the signs and other papers I needed to help in the run-off election on October 16th. I also wrote some post cards that they’ll copy and send to the registered voters.

So, we were home around lunch time and settled down for an afternoon of sports. The CUBS had clinched the play off slot last night, so no pressure. We ate and snacked while Scooter slept by my feet. He’s such a good dog.

Jim’s having a real hard time with the Ragweed. He’s sneezing and feels a bit rough. I hope he doesn’t get really ill. He’s done pretty well for a long time. It’s bothering Nick a bit, too.

Our weather is just lovely. It’s high 70°’s and we have a very strong breeze. It got a bit chilly last night. We keep all our windows open, day and night. I like sleeping when it’s so cool. We have the quilts my Grandmother Weldy made on my bed. They’re warm and they’re beautiful. They remind me of her, every day. I love all the colors. Each one is so different. I have another three or so on display.

Speaking of the family, I’d not followed it, but a friend sent me the info about a man who’d sold my late brother some cars and a motorcycle. The man had gotten the vehicles illegally and was sentenced to jail time plus forced to reimburse $200,000. My brother enjoyed his cars and motorcycle until his death and that’s what matters to me. He never knew they weren’t really ‘his’.

It’s 11 days until our 37th anniversary. We have a gift card we’ve not used up. Maybe we’ll go out to eat that night. Football will be over so we could leave as soon as the babies leave.

I got some survey checks in the mail and have another coming for $30.00. I know it sounds silly, but money is money and this is an easy way to earn cash! I just got paid $2.00 to answer questions about packaging for men’s T-Shirts. I’m saving points at another site toward a flat screen television. They don’t give cash but give points for scanning my grocery purchases.

Nick’s asked a friend to come home after church tomorrow. I need to decide what to thaw out for lunch. They’ll play PS2 games or read and talk about WWII while Jim watches the CUBS and I sleep or watch a movie in our room.

I’ve got a coupon for a waiver of the $65.00 admission fee to Western Govenors University online college. Check out the school and if you’d like the coupon info, email me. The school is at www.wgu.edu My husband starts class for his teaching certificate on Monday. The cost is VERY affordable and they accept lots of grants and have lots of scholarships.

We didn’t watch Ghost Whisperer last night. The previews were too hokie. We did watch and enjoy Moonlight about the vampire who helps people. It was good. I fell asleep during NUMB3RS. Charlie and his girlfriend were so ‘dirty’ looking that I had a hard time paying attention to the plot. Do they think smart people don’t bathe? Do they think messed up, uncut hair and unshaven men is attractive? Icky. Yukky!

Whisper a prayer for us, please. I need to find two children to keep or a part time night job very soon. Jim will be doing his college work and I don’t want him to have to work days, nights and try to do four hours of school each night. I need to make an extra $650. a month until our only car is paid off in 10 months. Then it’ll drop to $300. a month.

Well, I hope you have a very nice evening and also hope you’ll take a minute to look at the Bible verses I’ve chosen to share today. Don’t forget church tomorrow.

God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

Hebrews 13:2 "Don't forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!"

"We must focus on Jesus, the source and goal of our faith. He saw the joy ahead of him, so he endured death on the cross and ignored the disgrace it brought him. Then he received the highest position in heaven, the one next to the throne of God." Hebrews 12:2

Matthew 24:3 - "And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? 4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows."

but the silence of our friends."

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans 5:1-5

We’ve had the most beautiful day. Our weather is just lovely, with temps in the upper 70°’s and a strong breeze. The sky is so clear that you can see the moon.

Jim missed church today. He’s sneezing constantly and his allergies are out of control. I cooked for the youth and Nick helped me get set up, made chocolate milk and poured juice. We were down a few kids today, so it was a quick and easy job. I did go back after Sunday School to do the cleaning up Jim would have completed, straightened chairs and turned off the heat and lights. I like to leave a room in better condition than when I arrived.

Tuesday my mother goes back to the oral surgeon in Birmingham. My cousin’s friend is going to drive her the day before so they’ll be there for an early morning appointment. I’m praying she has bone growth and will be able to get out as much as before. She hates being trapped at home. We talk almost every day.

I heard from our daughter and got to talk to one of the granddaughters. They’re very busy with the start of the school year and life. I was happy to hear they’re going to church (mass) some Sundays. I do wish it included a Protestant Sunday School type program where they’ll learn the stories of Jesus, tho. I cling to the promise that ‘no mention of the name of Jesus will return void’.

There’s a make-up football game on Monday. I’m going to keep the car when Jim comes to get Nick so I can attend. Both children should be gone by 5:15 and I’ll be ready to go right away. I enjoy getting out of the house and there’s only one game left after that unless they win the next two games and make it into the play-offs next week.

I had something funny happen this afternoon. I’d taken Scooter out on his leash to go potty. He was quite anxious to get to a bush. There was a noise across the street and Scooter turned to see what it was, while lifting his leg, and proceeded to pee on my left leg. You had to be there. It was quite funny.

I’m wondering how long ‘Criminal Minds’ will last now that Mandy Patinkin is leaving. He’s my favorite character. That has been my favorite television show. I don’t like change.

Have you noticed how many television shows have rude and power hungry women in charge? They portray men as bumbling fools who are generally weak and easily misled. Commercials portray men as overweight imbeciles who are all married to beautiful women who make fun of the dad to their children. That angers me.

It amazes me the sense of peace I have about life. I should be concerned about finances, but I know the Lord will guide me and show me his will. I’ll let you know how things work out, as a praise of God’s goodness and mercy. God is so good to me. I am so blessed. All that I need is provided. Great is they faithfulness, Oh God my Father!

I hope you have a very nice evening and a lovely Monday.
God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life. Psalm 119:49-50

Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him! Exodus 30:5

It’s perfect here today! Gorgeous weather. Last night we had to pull up the quilt because it got down to 43° and we keep all our windows open this time of year. My house gets very dusty (red clay dust) but I can’t resist the chill in the air.

The girls were both very sleepy this morning. One had gotten to sleep after midnight and woke with mom and dad before 5:00! She did stay awake through breakfast, tho. They both took good morning naps.

My agitator shaft on my washer must be sheered. The top half moves but the bottom half only turns occasionally. I noticed it today when I was washing jeans and cords. It’s very noisy. I guess it’s good that we never get our clothes very dirty. It’ll be years before I can get another washer and dryer. My washer/dryer combo is a stacked unit and they’re 11 or 12 years old. I’ll never buy another unit like this again. No matter what they tell you, it doesn’t hold as many clothes as a regular unit and the dryer takes forever to dry a full load. I’ll be in real trouble if it breaks completely. No money to buy another and no extra funds for the Laundromat. No transportation to the Laundromat and no time during the day when I could go without taking two babies. Pray for my washer, please!

"For we are His creation--created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:10

I talked to my mother for a short time today. She was getting ready for her two day trip to Birmingham. They’ll leave early tomorrow morning and be home around suppertime Wednesday night. I sure hope her sinuses and mouth are healing quickly so she can get back to normal. She still won’t be able to chew food for another four months or so. I freak out just hearing what was done to her mouth and face. I couldn’t tolerate that!

The little baby left right at 3:30 so I drove Jim and Nick to the high school and I’ll go to the football game as soon as the two year old leaves. She’s usually gone by 5:15. The game starts at 5:00 and it’s about 5 or 6 miles from here. I shouldn’t miss much and I do enjoy talking to the teachers and administrators.

Tonight Jim will start his online schooling. He got passwords and some other info last night. I’m hoping he can finish all of his classes in 18 months or less. The sooner he finishes, the sooner he can make three times what he’s making now.

I’ve been lazy today. I did the wash, made the bed, cleaned the kitchen, but not much else. Monday is usually a quiet day anyhow. I had turned on DIY early this morning and I watched some fall craft shows. That threw me off schedule and I never got back into the groove.

It’s almost time for the last mom and for me to head to the football game. I hope you have a very nice evening and God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

1 Timothy 6:12 "Fight the good fight for what we believe. Hold tightly to the eternal life that God has given you, which you have confessed so well before many witnesses."

2 Timothy 4:7-8 " I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing."

Genesis 50:19-20 “Joseph said to them, "Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? But as for you, you thought evil against me; but God meant it for good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”

"And it will be said, "Build up, build up, prepare the way, remove every obstacle out of the way of My people." Isaiah 57:14

"Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this—not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother's way." Romans 14:13

I had an email when I checked late last night from a friend who does daycare. A woman in her church, who lives in my town, is looking for a sitter for her almost 6 month old and 2 1/2 year old. My friend has too many children to keep already. She wanted to know if she could pass on my name. Tho I charge less when there’s two children in a family, the money I could make would be only $50.00 less than our deficit starting in November, before gasoline and any pharmacy or doctor co-pays. Anyhow, this mom only works 2 days a week. I don’t do part time daycare. The option is that this woman’s mother has custody of her two year old grandchild and is overwhelmed, needing time to herself. She asked if they both were part time, could I work around that for the full time price. That’s fine with me. I sure hope I hear back from her today. God is good!

"For a little while, you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire, may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed." I Peter 1:6-7

Last night was a bit draining emotionally. Two boys were injured in the football game. One had a neck and rib injury and was having trouble taking a breath. He was put on a back board with a neck brace and taken to the hospital by ambulance. The other injured his forearm and was also taken to the hospital by his mother. One mother wasn’t at the game so we went with the boys. About 9:00, I left Jim there and Nick and I came home. Jim called for me to pick him up at 10:30. Both boys had either CAT scans, been x-rayed and then released with rib bruising and pulled ligaments in the arm. We were sure thankful that’s all it was.

I was wrong about the football schedule. Everyone plays at least one game in the play-offs. There’ll be a game on October 11th. There is a piano concert that night in Atlanta that we had hoped to attend, for free, but there’s no way we could make it on time. That could have been a free anniversary outing. I’ll figure out something else.

October 10th, we’ll be married 37 years. We’ve never had a lot of stuff or had it easy, financially, but we are greatly blessed. I couldn’t have asked for a better husband, best friend, lover. God has been so good to me.

"... I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him..." Philippians 3:8-9a

Jon came over to visit today before work. We hadn’t seen him in a while. He brought Nick a PS2 game he’d completed and Nick wanted. He’d done a bit of yard work recently and had pictures of some new plants they had put in. He’d found some plants I’d never seen. He knows how much I love gardening.

Both little girls were giving me fits today. The one year old removes her diaper during nap time and wets the bed. She’d done that almost every day last week. I used packing tape, today, so she couldn’t get it off. She took off her shirt, instead. The two year old is starting to potty train so she’s taking off her clothes and ‘going’ without going…. 50 times a day. Constantly, she’s taking off her pull up and sitting down, getting right back up and running off. I put it back on her and there she ‘goes’ again. Still no success. I’ve got stickers as a reward. She’s carrying her potty chair all over the house, tho. I guess it’s a porta potty.

"How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked." Psalm 84: 1-2,10

I had a lot of surveys to do the last few days. I save them up and do them early in the morning while drinking my tea or in the afternoon while waiting for parents. My eyes are tired today, tho.

Tonight is Bones, House, CSI and then NCIS (west coast), in that order for me. I’ll be late getting to sleep but I sure enjoy those shows. Tuesday night is my favorite night of television, tho Criminal Minds is my favorite show of all.

Hope you have a nice evening!
God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

"And now that I am old and gray, don't forsake me. Give me time to tell this new generation about all Your mighty miracles" Psalm 71:18

The two year old I keep is very sick today. She has a temperature of 102°, a cough and is sneezing. She woke at 3:00 a.m. and didn’t go back to sleep until nap time. She also seems to have a tummy ache with lots and lots of gas. Poor baby. I hope I can prevent the rest of us from catching her cold. I’ve got the windows open and ran the whole house fan quite a bit. I’ve also been spraying with Lysol and washing my hands more often with anti bacterial soaps.

It’s a lovely day here. The sky is quite gray and there’s a strong breeze. Rain is moving in. In fact, there’s a chance of rain every day through Sunday. I love the rain. I sleep so well when it’s raining. Rain has always soothed me. Is that odd or what? I remember when we were first married and living in Asbury Park, New Jersey. I’d iron all day when it rained. I used to turn on the television and watch the old black and white movies out of New York. Those are the best movies ever made, in my opinion.

Speaking of sleeping, I didn’t see much of Law and Order last night or even one minute of NCIS. I had trouble staying awake through House. It must be the change in the weather because I am sleeping so very well. Scooter is too, so no getting up to walk him during the night.

We’re starting to see a few yellow leaves on the trees but we’re also having a lot of leaves just turn brown and fall. I’m guessing the drought caused no sugar storage in the leaves so we’ll probably not see any vivid colors here this fall. Sugar is responsible for the purples and brightest colors during the change of seasons.

A woman had offered several full sized sheet sets on Freecycle, plus a full set of Ironstone dishes in the green of my kitchen. We drove almost an hour to pick them up to find the sheets were threadbare and stained with weather spots. I’m sure I can use the fabric for something, but they’re worse than the old set we already have. Mine are not stained, just worn thin. Oh well. The dishes are nice. Only one bowl has a chip. The rest look brand new. The woman couldn’t use them because she’s crippled with arthritis and they’re too heavy for her. I really needed sheets, tho.

Good people leave an inheritance for their children's children, but a sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous. Proverbs 13:22

I checked my survey sites today and had over $41.00 worth of ‘credit’ on just two sites, so I cashed in and have checks coming. I’m only a few points from $10.00 on another survey site. Everything goes toward our monthly expenses. No, I don’t take my earnings and buy things I perceive myself to ‘need’.

I will take the money made at the consignment shop and use it as credit for jeans for Nick or something else I find at a give away price, tho. It’s never been more than $17.00, even if I let it add up for a few months. I had $3.00 in credit last month when I took in clothes Nick has outgrown. I left it on the books for when we need something.

That reminds me, I should have Nick try on his winter coat. He may have outgrown it! He’s so very tall. It’s like brand new and was very expensive. I used to buy at the end of the season for the next year, when coats were 75% off. Maybe I can sell it if it’s too small. I won’t take it to the consignment shop! I don’t think they are very honest. Maybe they choose items for themselves and price them at a dollar or so when they should have gone for $20.00. Whatever it is, I know I’ve been ‘taken’ more than once. They won’t let you set your own price and they take half of everything you make. If your items don’t sell quickly, they ‘donate them’. If we didn’t need the money to replace outgrown clothing, I’d give the things away myself!

I don’t have a coat. I’ve not had one for a number of years. I did have a lightweight jacket when I was a size 6-8 and a storm coat in Connecticut back 12 years ago, but nothing since. I’ll need to watch for a coat for this year. I about froze to death last winter and I don’t have many sweaters now. They finally fell to pieces. Please don’t send me emails about sales at your favorite stores. We have NO extra income for a coat. Zilch. Zero. Nada. I only go to church. If it’s terribly cold, Jim will drop me off at a side door and pick me up. He doesn’t have a coat either; only a leather jacket from 20 years ago. I’ll watch Freecycle.

Jim called to say tomorrow night’s football game has already been rescheduled for next Monday because of rain. I won’t get to go because it’s an away game.

I called about flu shots today. Our doctor will be giving them starting around the 15th of this month. Blue Cross pays for them, so that’s a blessing. There was no way I could have found an extra $75.00 in the budget.

Major League Baseball play-off starts tonight. Jim’s excited about watching the Cubs at 10:00. We all like Criminal Minds and it’s on from 9 until 10:00 so that will work out fine for us. I can put in a movie and fall asleep. Jim and Nick can watch baseball together.

I’m making a tuna casserole tonight. We don’t eat many casseroles. We’ve never been a big fan, but we do like tuna and noodles and this is a quick and easy meal. I’m thinking about making a huge pot of homemade chili the beginning of next week. We love chili. My recipe makes enough for an army. Hmmm… Maybe I’ll let it slip to Jon that I’m making it. He loves my chili and my homemade soups.

Have you realized yet that my blog is my way of thinking things through? It isn’t a gripe session but when I put things down on ‘paper’, I can see them more clearly and sometimes figure out a solution before I post at the end of the day. I’ll write something and leave it open for hours later and by time I come back, I may already have solved a problem or had a great idea about something.

Speaking of solving a problem, I’m considering a yard sale for later this month. Nick has a lot of toys he’s outgrown and we always let him keep any money he earns. He also has a large knife collection he’s lost interest in, with 3 or 4 Samurai Swords of assorted sizes. I also have things I’ve put aside for a sale. It’s not a lot of things, but it’s a nice way to spend the day outside and get things cleaned out at the same time. I’ve been watching for someone in our neighborhood to advertise a sale in the newspaper. When several families are having a sale, lots of people come and buy.

Speaking of stuff that needs to be cleaned up, Erin said she and the girls may come for their stuff during the holidays. It’s too much stuff to ship. There are four containers of toys, five or six baskets of clothing and then containers filled with photos, vases, jewelry, etc. Then there’s the shoes!

Nick is so nice. He knows we can’t afford Christmas presents so he’s only mentioned one small item. He said he’s old enough to not expect a lot of things. He pretty much never gets anything from anyone other than ‘Santa’. (Do NOT send me emails about the evil of Santa!)

Well I have just blabbered on and on this rainy afternoon! I’ve been stuck in the television room with the little girls. Scooter is locked in the hall and Nick’s in his room.

Jim will be online each night to do schoolwork. He did three or four lesson modules last night. He wants to finish the introductory class by this weekend and then get started on his required classes. Once football is over, he’ll have plenty of free time until baseball starts. He’s not decided if he’s going to help with girl’s basketball. The lady they would like to coach it hasn’t decided yet. She’s coached at the college level. It’s a paying job.

Well, I’m bored now and I’ve jabbered enough. Since I started this before 8:00 this morning, I’m not even sure what I’ve written or just thought about today. Time to find some beautiful pictures off Webshots and copy them to share today.

Hope you have a nice evening!
God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

"It started when God said, 'Light up the darkness!' and our lives filled up with light as we saw and understood God in the face of Christ, all bright and beautiful." 2 Corinthians 4: 6

I slept hard last night! I watched Criminal Minds and was glad to see Jason Gideon just ‘rode off into the sunset’ instead of something horrible so might be able to do some guest shots later. Also, I went to bed at 10:00 when the CUBS came on, put in a vampire movie and was asleep within 20 minutes or less. I love the old black and white movies and this one features Fay Wray as the star.

It’s another gray and rainy day here in Georgia. There’s a very nice breeze, too. The cloud cover is so thick that I can’t even hear the traffic from nearby I-20. Lovely! The football team is going to try and play their game in Mount Zion. They have another game with that team next Thursday. The winner of this game hosts the next game. Believe me… it’ll be in Mt. Zion. That’s only down the road a bit from us toward Alabama. Jim gets out extra early for away games, comes home to change into his coach’s shirt and pick up Nick. Nick films the game for him. They left today before 3:00 for the 4:30 game. I hope the weather holds out. Nick will be in the press box with the camera.

So, I did some test runs with my washer and found if I wash medium sized loads, the bottom agitator turns most of the time. The top always turns. That’ll mean more work but I don’t mind washing every day. I’m just glad it works when it’s got smaller loads. Jim said he’ll take it apart and see if it’s an easy repair. He’s so handy.

I spoke with the mother who is looking for part time daycare. Her mother is interested in splitting the week with her. (She has custody of a 2 year old granddaughter). They want to come over and meet me tomorrow or Saturday. She works Monday and Wednesday and the kids will be here from 9 til 5:00. The grandmother will work out her own schedule. Honestly, it would be okay if she needs to have a flexible schedule. I do need a pack ‘n play for the 6 month old since he sleeps a lot, as does the one year old. I’m praying this works out.

I’m already working out a schedule in my head for those two days. The infant can sleep the same time as Lauren and the two 2 year olds can nap later. Lauren takes a second nap about 3:00 each day and the infant might sleep at the same time. (I’m dreaming, aren’t I?) She’ll lie down on the floor and fall asleep if I don’t watch for her eye rubbing. She never fusses except a teeny bit when she wants to go down for a nap. It’s so minimal that you could ‘not’ hear it. Lauren doesn’t come every Monday. It’s her dad’s day off. He works a lot of overtime.

We have a lot of tuna casserole left over for supper tonight. It was very good but filling with all the noodles.

I’m still working on my weight loss. I’m a bit discouraged. I gained back three pounds almost overnight. I’m guessing its a few days of saltier foods and water weight. I want to lose that again plus another 10 plus pounds. Honestly, the more I lose, the more sure I am that I need to get down to 124- 129 lbs. I don’t look like I want to look.

I watched a number of Clean House episodes today. I’m always so shocked at how people live. I do enjoy the show, tho. One show, today, was a couple who fight all the time. I hope they’re watching themselves and seeing their behavior.

I got two more survey checks in the mail today. They totaled $15.00. If you’re interested in doing surveys, send me an email with the email you’d like to use and I’ll send you links or invite you on those that call for invitations. It’s easy money.

Have a nice evening!
God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

Psalm 68:19 Praise be to the Lord; to God our Savior, who daily bears our burden.

Luke 9:23-24 Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it."

James 1:23-25 "For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does."

Psalm 103 "Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits - who forgives our sins and heals our diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things."

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Ecclesiastes 3:5-6

"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things." Philippians 4:8

It was another lovely and overcast day here in my little corner of Georgia. There’s a chance of rain later. We’ve had a few minutes of sun this afternoon.

I’m certainly glad it’s Friday! I’ve had more than my share of uh-oh’s today. The one year old has learned how to use the spout on her cup to shoot juice out. She has made many, many messes. The last one was during lunch. She filled her tray with juice and then proceeded to sling juice and ravioli all over my wall and floor. There was no way she was going to be wiped off. I had to bathe her to get the greasy feel off her arms and legs from the ravioli. The timing was right, because she’d had some diarrhea during lunch and it had spread all over, soaking her clothing. EW! Anyhow, I took the cup away and will either find one this weekend that has a hard top or will only let her have her drink when I can sit next to her.

I scrubbed the wall and baseboards and wiped up a puddle from the floor. I’ll have to scrub that once they’re gone. I don’t want a child running in onto the floor and slipping down.

The two year old’s cold is about gone. The one year old now has green gunk running profusely from her nose, runny eyes and the tummy issues. My hands are almost raw from washing them so much. Hope I can keep the rest of the family from catching these viruses.

I interviewed with the mother and grandmother who are thinking of ‘sharing’ child care. I doubt I’ll get the children. They’d interviewed a ‘young girl’ earlier today about keeping them. The children are 5 months, 20 months and 2 ½. They wouldn’t come on the same days, tho. Hailee was overwhelmed. She clung to me the whole time they were here. We’ll see… The Lord knows our need and is faithful and just, supplying all our needs according to HIS riches and glory.

I got most of my housework done early today. I have some things to fold once the girls are gone and still need to scrub that kitchen floor. Maybe I’ll do the floor on Saturday.

I slept really well again last night but Jim did wake both me and Scooter around 3:30. I walked Scooter really quickly out front and got right back to sleep. Jim came back to bed right as I laid back down and snuggled with me. I’d gotten to sleep around 10:15 tho, and seem to remember dreaming, but nothing bothersome.

Jon said he might come over tomorrow. If he does, I need to get him to put up a window screen. I’ll ask Jim to remove the window air conditioner from the television room. The room is over the garage and that makes it second story and our driveway is sloped down to the street. Jim’s past the age where he feels comfortable climbing a two story ladder. I don’t think we can install it from inside, either. Last year we just kept the window closed. I love the breezes! Jon won’t mind at all. He’s quite helpful.

It’s only five days until our anniversary. We had money on a gift certificate and used that to go out tonight. We both had prime rib. We thought about waiting til Wednesday. There’s football practice that night so it might be quite late before we could go out. I’m a low maintenance wife. We don’t do cards or gifts and I don’t expect a big ‘to do’. Our kids won’t remember our anniversary. They never have. I will plan a party if we both live to 10/10/2020 which will be 50 years.

My email is very messed up today. As of this writing, I’ve gotten 26 identical emails from HGTV. I have six surveys waiting to be done, also.

Jim completed his first module at college and starts two classes as soon as he can get the books. He needs two books on critical thinking. I forgot which class they’re for. He’s doing some of his school work on another computer down in his music room/ office where it’s quieter. He wants to get all these classes down quickly so we can begin to earn a decent income. Now we just pray there’s an opening at the school where he’s working. He really loves the staff and has made great friends. He’d prefer 6th grade math because he wants to make sure the kids have a good foundation before moving into Algebra and Geometry, but he would take any of the middle grades.

Well, a show I like is coming on so I’ll be off. Have a nice evening and God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

When times get hard, remember Jesus. When people don't listen, remember Jesus. When tears come, remember Jesus. When disappointment is your bed partner, remember Jesus.

Remember holiness in tandem with humanity. Remember the sick who were healed with callused hands. Remember the dead called from the grave with a Galilean accent. Remember the eyes of God that wept human tears.

“Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.” Ephesians 5:21–25

Last night Jim and I went to Longhorn’s for our upcoming 37th anniversary, October 10th. We went to the Longhorn’s in a bigger town and the food was excellent. We both had prime rib and baked potatoes. We’d never have gone if we didn’t have a gift certificate. It was so nice. We talked and talked. I really enjoy Jim’s company.

Today we did some cleaning. We had moved the Foosball table into Nick’s room when our daughter had said she and the girls were moving in with us. That didn’t work out and we’d never moved it back. It had become a place to put ‘stuff’ and I don’t like that. We moved it back down to the rec room and got Nick to clean his room, to some degree. I didn’t make him clean the shelves that are pretty high in his room and hold collectibles. He’s decided to sell his knife collection.

Jim took our window air conditioner out of the window in this room and was able to put the screen in from inside. I’d forgotten the windows open ‘in’ and ‘down’. There’s a wonderful breeze coming in now. It’s amazing the difference two windows being open makes.

Jim took Nick for a haircut today. We usually do our hair ourselves. Nick’s hair has gotten very thick and coarse. We’d let it grow a bit and I wasn’t sure I could make it look right with our Flowbee without something to follow. Jim had cut it last time and didn’t cut it the usual style. Anyhow, once or twice a year we break down and take him to Jack to get it cut. He does a great job. It’s a regular ‘little boy’ hair cut with short sides and back and combed over on the top. I cannot tolerate these messy styles boys wear today.

Later, Nick and I went to Wal-Mart. We looked at Hotwheels and Matchbox cars for quite a while. Nick likes to play with them, still. He has a huge collection of cars because I had kept our two grown son’s toy cars. We have one of those large, clear plastic bins that hold sweaters or blankets full of metal cars. I’m saving Nick’s Brio trains for HIS children. We have all the trains made before 2004 plus enough track to fill a big room, three bridges, overpasses, roundhouse and all accessories.

Nick’s trying to decide what he wants to be for Halloween. I make the costumes so I hope he’ll decide soon. Last year he was Jason. Two years ago, Zorro. The year before that, he was Obi-Wan Kenobi from Star Wars. We’ll go to our church and another church for Trunk and Treat. Nick’s old enough that he can go through the neighborhood without an adult, too. There’s no one his age, tho, so that’s not fun. One of us might go with him for company, if he wants. (Don’t send me emails, forwards or sermons on the evil of Halloween.)

I’m sleepy this afternoon and it’s too late to take a nap. The Cubs are coming on in a few minutes. Jim’s been watching football for quite awhile now. I’d love to nap but sure don’t want to be up all night.

Well, I think I’ll decide what to grill for supper and will get that going. Have a nice evening and God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek. and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened." Matthew 7:7-8

Have you had a nice Sunday? Do you have off tomorrow?

The mom of the one year old has off both Monday and Tuesday. She’s going to bring the baby to me for part of Tuesday so she can spend some time with their middle daughter, who is off school that day. Mom is concerned that between the baby and the older girl needing homework help that the middle child feels overlooked. Isn’t that sweet? I am not sure if I’ll have the two year old. Her mother works for the court system and since most government offices are closed on Monday, she may be off and just forgot to mention it.

Jim has to work tomorrow, Columbus Day. Only some schools are closed this week. He has off next Monday for fall break.

I took a nice nap today. I put in an old black and white vampire movie and fell right to sleep. There’s a lovely breeze and it’s so quiet in the neighborhood. My guys were watching football so I took advantage of that and slept for two hours.

Nick has a crush on a very lovely girl at church. She’s the same age as him. I teach her in Sunday School. She’s quite a lady. Very quiet and soft spoken. She dresses feminine. She comes from a wonderful Christian family. I taught her younger sister for almost two years in Sunday School when she was 3 and 4. Nick just says ‘hi’ to her.

I talked to my mother for a long time today. She’s researching trips for the upcoming year and has two she’s really interested in. She will go with a couple from Tennessee on one and meet up with the group in New Mexico. She’s going to call her travel buddy tonight to see what her thoughts are for the spring trips.

Well, not much going on so I’m going to fold my clothes and watch some television. Have a nice evening and God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

"Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." Hebrew 4:16

My nap yesterday kept me awake til after midnight last night. I know better than to nap that late! It’s okay, tho. I only had one child to keep today and she’d been up most of the night and then up again at 5:00 a.m. so she slept most of the morning. I was able to get a lot done before lunchtime. I only have one today and tomorrow will have both, but one will only be a part of the day. Wednesday, the two year old goes for her flu shot and the one year old leaves a little early.

Jim was so funny this morning. He wanted to sleep in today and while dressing he said ‘I don’t wanna go to school, Mama’. Silly boy. LOL. This week, Friday is a teacher’s work day. Next week is ‘fall break’ with no school on Monday. That’s really two four day work weeks with a long weekend in-between. Not too shabby.

Thursday is the last football game. It’s in Mount Zion again. After that, Jim will be home each day by 3:45 until his next coaching job starts. He’s still not decided about girl’s basketball. Most coaching jobs pay both the head coach and assistant coach. The athletic director thinks there’s no pay for assistant coach. If not, Jim will do something else. He’s coaching baseball, which starts not long after Christmas break anyhow.

I am under conviction that I am not to worry about our deficit in income. We’ve applied at so many places for part time jobs or holiday jobs and I’m trying very hard to find two more children to keep. The verses I chose to share today spoke volumes to me and I give praise to our God, my Father, for what He has planned for our family. I praise Him before I know that plan, confident that He will supply our needs and keep us near to His throne of mercy.

With Jesus' help, let us continually offer our sacrifice of praise to God by proclaiming the glory of his name. 16 Don't forget to do good and to share what you have with those in need, for such sacrifices are very pleasing to God. Hebrews 13:15

We have a youth worker meeting tonight at 6:00. I hope Jim gets home in time. It starts with a snack supper, so if we miss the beginning, that’s okay. It’s so very hard with only one car and church functions. We’ve watched for a clunker on Freecycle that would get us back and forth on Wednesday nights or even get Jim back and forth to work.

It’s a bit overcast again today. That’s keeping our temperature quite pleasant. There’s a strong breeze coming through the two big windows in this room. I sure love fall! The foods, the weather, the colors!

Speaking of fall foods, I’m craving pumpkin pie. I need to get to the grocery store for a few things and should pick up some pumpkin and make some pies. I also need to start a grocery list so I won’t forget ingredients for chili. We LOVE chili! Now I’m starving! I’ll never lose that last 10 – 15 lbs if I start eating all the time!

I listed a whole bunch of stuff for sale on a local free classified site in hopes of not needing to have a yard sale to get rid of the things and make money. It I don’t get replies; I’ll probably do a yard sale this weekend. It’s so much work and during the week, it’s hard to do anything with the little ones here. I can’t be in a closet or in the garage while taking care of children. Nick is wonderful about helping work the yard sale. Jim will chip in …….. some……. But tends to think we can just put the stuff out and not price it or put up signs. He’s great at coming out and visiting with people, tho and will help me clean up.

So, I have a 7 foot long and 42 inches wide dining room table my step father made for us about 25 years ago or more. The top got ruined while it was stored in one of those self storage places for a number of years. It’s WAY too big for the house and has been standing on its side in the garage for almost 9 years now. I’m tempted to sell it. It can easily be repaired. My grown kids have no room for it or don’t need it/ want it. I don’t know if I’ll ever have another house with a dining room or big kitchen. We sure could use the big size when Jon and family come over or if company comes from out of state, but…. I don’t believe it could be cut down to fit.

“For His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.” 2 Peter 1:3

I need to decide what to cook for Wednesday night. Although we went out for our anniversary last Friday, I’ll still make an extra nice meal for the actual evening. Jim won’t be home that night until after football practice, 6:30 or 7:00. Probably steaks. We all love steaks and I have them in the freezer.

I’m richer than J. Paul Getty. Are YOU?

Wealthy oil tycoon Jean Paul Getty was asked just before he died if there were anything he wished for but never possessed. His answer was, “I envy a happily married family.”

Well, we need to get to that meeting as soon as Jim gets home so have a nice evening. Do take a minute and read the devotional below my signature. I got it by email today.

God bless,

Diane Tavegia

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalm 91:4

Sundar Singh, an Indian evangelist, wrote about a treacherous forest fire that swept through the Himalayas where he was traveling. Many men were trying their best to fight the fire, but there was one group that stood staring up at the flaming branches of one tree.

They watched as a mother bird flew frantically in circles above the treetop. She was chirping an alarm and warning to her nest full of babies. As the flames reached her nest and it began to burn, she didn’t fly away. Instead she swooped down and covered her fledglings with her wings to protect them. However, in a matter of seconds she and her nestlings were consumed by the fire.

The men standing below were awe-stricken. Singh then used the opportunity to share with them: “We have witnessed a truly marvelous thing. God created that bird with such love and devotion that she gave her life trying to protect her young. ...That is the love that brought Him down from heaven to become man. That is the love that made Him suffer a painful death for our sake.”

"This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil." Hebrews 6:19

“Don’t waste your trials.”

Today has been an ‘easy’ day. Both girls came, but one came a lot later than usual and mom picked her up before 3:00. Mom and one of her sisters had the day off so they spent some time together, one on one. Both girls take two hour morning naps. Tomorrow the two year old won’t come until after she goes for her flu shot at 8:00. She’s usually here around 7:10 so I can get a shower and have the bed made before she arrives. The one year old is sick, again; another bad head cold. She has two older sisters in school and must be catching every sniffle they bring home.

We’ve had a steady downpour for a good bit of the day with more on the way. I’m going to guess there won’t be football practice outside in this weather. Their last game is Thursday.

I sent out a plea for people to remember me if they hear of anyone needing childcare in our area. I don’t think that shows lack of faith. I trust the Lord to provide for us but believe I am to be willing to do whatever He requires. I hope I find two children really soon or something comes up.

I’m quite disappointed to hear our doctor closed their office in New Georgia and are only seeing patients here in our town. I’ve heard horror stories about people waiting 8 hours to be seen there. Parking is limited at the office attached to the hospital, too. I gladly drove the distance to save time and be seen right away. Shucks. No fair! Now they tell me Nick will have to be seen before they’ll give him a flu shot. Because of that, and the co-pay for the visit, I’ll take him to the health department instead. He can get his for free, there.

Tonight is my favorite night for television. We like Bones, House, NCIS and Law and Order. I’ve not stayed awake this new season to see NCIS on the west coast stations. Of course, that means I’ll have something to watch when re-runs begin. I tried watching online and can’t stand the buffering and freezing, small screen, etc.

I’m saving up one of my surveys for buying Nick Christmas presents. They pay out the first day of the month following the month when you cash in, so if I cash in anytime in October, I’ll be paid the first part of December. By Oct. 30th, I should have about $50 - $55.00, depending on how many $1.00 surveys I do between now and then. To make sure I don’t forget, I’ve set up free reminders on Memo To Me www.memotome.com I use that site for all doctor appointments, youth group meetings, etc. It’s really neat. I’ve been using them for over a year.

A church friend is looking into going back to work. She has a small child and older kids. She contacted me about childcare, in case she gets the job. She’ll find out tomorrow. That would be a blessing! She and her husband are wonderful people.

“The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them."
Proverbs 20:7

Tonight, I’ve got to run to the next town to drop off a payment I refuse to mail (don’t trust our local postal service), take checks to the bank and the electric bill payment to the power company night drop slot. That’ll take about 45 minutes, I’m guessing. We also planned on going to the grocery store for a number of items. It’s nice to get out of the house, tho I won’t see anyone other than the lady at the check out. Maybe Jim will drive me and we can visit.

Well Jim came in; we went out and got everything done. We had a really good Mexican dinner of soft Tacos and refried beans. Jim and Nick are making Grandma Alcorn’s Hard Molasses Cookies while I watch Bones.

Have a nice evening and

God bless,

Diane Tavegia

O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever. Psalm 30:12

I am thankful that…..

Jim’s melanomas were caught before they were life threatening.
I’m thankful for my wonderful and loving husband of 37 years on 10/10.
I’m thankful for Nick, who was born on my 44th birthday and who has given me (us) such joy these last almost 13 years.
I’m thankful for our home.
I’m thankful for our church home and our loving church family.
I’m thankful for my good health.
I’m thankful for beauty in sunsets, flowers, rainbows, cloudy days, the sea rushing to shore, butterflies and birds of all colors.
I’m thankful for the laughter of children.
I’m thankful for beautiful music.
I’m thankful for the music found in nature; lightning, a bird’s song, the rustle of leaves, the sound of snow squeaking under your feet, rain drops and the insect symphony late at night.

1 Thessalonians 5:9-10 For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever.

“He deserves not the name of patient who is only willing to suffer as much as he thinks proper, and for whom he pleases. The truly patient man asks (nothing) from whom he suffers, (whether) his superior, his equal, or his inferior…But from whomever, or how much, or how often wrong is done to him, he accepts it all as from the hand of God, and counts it gain!” Thomas A. Kempis

A concert piano has over 240 strings that, when tuned and tightened, create a pull of 40,000 pounds on the frame. Without the tension, there would be no beautiful music.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. 1 Chronicles 16:34

The hard molasses cookies are delicious, as always. I ate three last night and won’t eat any more. They get very hard; too hard for my teeth. They’re full of sugar, molasses and Crisco so the caloric value must be out of the roof. They are so very good, tho. Jim and Nick made them but left me the totally destroyed kitchen to clean. I got most of it done last night, but had a second dishwasher load for this morning. Jim took some cookies to school to share.

I didn’t sleep well last night. I was awake from about 1:30 until 3:30. I was a bit anxious. I think I sometimes control worries during the day but they ‘break loose’ while I sleep and waken me. Thankfully, I was able to talk to our Lord and keep those needs at His throne instead of staying up and trying to figure out ways to solve our needs myself.

I got up before 7:00 and put the dog out but got to lie in bed until almost 8:00. The two year old went for her flu shot and didn’t get here until 9:30. She fell asleep in the car just before they got here so went right to bed. The one year old always gets here about 7:50. She always naps not long after breakfast. I was able to shower and get the dishes done early.

Jon called last night around 10:30 p.m. and talked with his dad. He’s a supervisor at work and has his own office now. I know he’d love to move to day shift, even if it meant changing companies, but so far the Lord hasn’t opened those doors.

Today is our 37th Wedding Anniversary. We were married at 7:00 p.m. on a Saturday night in Warner Robbins, Georgia. It rained a little that evening. After a family dinner at Catfish Willie’s, Jim and I left for an Army base in New Jersey. We quickly found a furnished apartment in a big old house and settled in to married life. The preacher who married us is still involved in ministry. I’m guessing he’s at least 70 by now. I didn’t know him well. We had moved the summer after I graduated from high school. My family moved our church letters right before I went away to college.

Anyhow, we went out for our anniversary dinner last Friday night. We’ll try to make it to church tonight. Jim’s going to try and make it home early. Tomorrow night is their last football game.

Jim’s seriously considering assistant coaching Girl’s Basketball. If he does, practice starts in a few weeks and games go through early February. He’s already coaching Boy’s Baseball which will begin around the time basketball ends. Next year he’ll be the head Baseball coach. That pays a lot more money that assistant coaching. That does cause problems with church attendance on Wednesday nights. I figure, if the Lord wants me to work with the youth, He’ll provide transportation. So far, not. Even Nick has had to miss a lot of youth meetings.

I’m hoping to hear from the lady from our church about childcare. Her little boy is 20 months old. She’s a registered nurse and had worked for our doctor until she had this baby. I’m not sure where she applied for work, but it’s in town. I don’t know her little boy, but I’ve taught some of her older children. Nothing so far. Hope she got the job or a better one!

I ordered Jim’s books for his second college course today. He’s only 32 units from having his teacher’s certificate. We’re really hoping he can do those in a year to 18 months. The sooner the better for us!

Tonight is Criminal Minds. I hope it’s a good one. I seem to remember it looking good. I can promise you I’ll be in bed not long after it’s off! Have a lovely evening.

God bless,

Psalm 23

The LORD is my shepherd; I have everything I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the dark valley of death, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You welcome me as a guest, anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever.

A concert piano has over 240 strings that, when tuned and tightened, create a pull of 40,000 pounds on the frame. Without the tension, there would be no beautiful music.
