SPRING FORWARD!
Don't be late for church!

Is everyone having a nice weekend? Did you remember to turn your clocks ahead? We turned our clocks ahead early this morning and pretended, all day, that it was the later time. That makes it an easier adjustment on Sunday.

Our Yard Sale has gone quite well. Nick is very happy because he sold his old PS1 and a number of games. He's got CASH! We also got rid of a lot of smaller things that I 'clean swept' out of our rec room and bookshelves. A lot of things, we almost gave away or DID give away. I still have a bunch of sandbox toys and Nick's 20" bike, which is like new. We also have a few odds and ends that I'll bring back in if they don't sell tomorrow afternoon. The stuff we don't want will be posted on www.freecycle.org tomorrow night as first come/ first served. There's about 5 big Tonka trucks (metal) that are a little rusty from all the hard work they've done over the last 10 years. Some kid will love them!

Jim enjoyed his Cubs game today. Scooter enjoyed all the folk at the yard sale and this great weather. It got almost too hot! Nick is quite pink on his face. I pulled my chair into the garage to keep cooler. Whew!

Can you believe it's almost Easter? Wow! Seems like time goes faster and faster as you age. Hmmmmmmmmm

Well, please whisper a prayer for me. I'm slightly anxious over my doctor's visit on Monday with the Breast Specialist/ surgeon for my recheck and yearly mammogram. Three tiny microcalcifications were found a year ago. Micro is more worriesome than macrocalcifications. Each radiologist, the surgeon and the computer all have felt they are benign but we had to check and recheck. The card I got for my appointment mentioned an ultrasound. I've not ever had one and don't understand why one is being called for. Generally those are for YOUNG women with larger breasts. I am not young nor chesty!

So, I've spent a few hours watching Trading Spaces, Neat and While You Were Out. I sure like those shows!

Oh, We were unable to rake or do any work out back. We had a steady drizzle all night and then woke to pouring rain for a few hours. The leaves are very heavy when wet and since we are on almost an acre and want to move the leaves to an area of our yard for decomposing, etc., we had to put it off. One area of our yard, where the builder pushed back dirt from our basement, has settled very low compared to the rest of the yard where we have lots and lots of trees. We have filled in one other spot over the last 7 years with our leaves and clippings so that it's up to 'ground level' and then this one 'appears'. We'll blow and rake the leaves into that area for the next few years and let it mulch and fill in. Oh if only grass would appear! LOL

Well, another gardening show is on so I'm going to watch that and wish you all a great evening. Please make plans tonight to be in church tomorrow and don't forget to SPRING FORWARD!

Well we have been quite busy this long weekend and did get a lot accomplished! Our yard sale went well. Nick made quite a bit of money and I haven't bothered to count what I made. I've also given away a lot of children's toys, kitchen items, chairs, etc. and gotten rid of many things we no longer need. Hubby vacuumed the rec room for me after choir practice. Our cleaning encouraged our Jon to go through the things he had stored in our garage and clean up a lot of stuff he doesn't use or could toss out.

It was so hot for a while today that we all got overheated. The sun bears down on the front of our house all afternoon and even sitting inside the garage was a bit much. It was nice and cool in our back yard and on the back deck, tho. It's down to 74° now tho. I have all the windows and one door open.

Someone tried to rob us last night. The dog began barking at 4:00 a.m. and the spotlights all came on. I got up and looked and saw the vehicle and driver but the man who had gotten out of the car and had come to the side door on the garage ran back to the car and they left. Unfortunately, I believe I know who it was. A family from down the road had come to our yard sale and own a vehicle like that. I assume they may have been after Nick's motorized scooter or his new bike. Very sad. Thank the Lord, the door was locked, the security lights worked and the dog alerted me. I doubt they'll try again.

Oh I had a good number in Sunday School! My helper finally came, but 45 mins. late. She'd been upstairs because her daughter had overslept and wasn't going to make it to the class she teaches. We did well, tho, and the children are all very lovely four year olds... so well behaved and loving!

I only have one daycare child tomorrow because of my doctor's visit. One family is having grandma keep the baby all day. The teacher will pick up her infant during her lunch break so we can get on the way to the doctor. UG! I do dread it and just pray it's all good reports and no more visits for a full year. I don't like doctor visits! Hubby is taking me. It's very far from us and all through spaghetti junction. EEK!

Our church is having an Easter Egg hunt on April 15th which begins with a sermonette for the kids and parents on what Easter is really about. We're opening it to ages birth through 5th grade and have the 'hunts' in different areas for different age groups. We have over 150 pre signed up!

I can't believe it's just 2 months til VBS! I've got my material and an allotment of $50. to spend anyway I feel led. Last year I didn't spend the churches money and hopefully can get donations of the items I may need instead of using any this year. I always get SO excited about VBS and look forward to sharing with the children.

Have a lovely week and please whisper a prayer for a good report and for me to not be anxious over my doctor's visit tomorrow afternoon.

God Bless!

Today was quite a busy day for us! We left at 12:15 for my doctor's appointment and had no real traffic so got into Atlanta in time to go out for a nice lunch. I did begin to get nervous once we got to the doctor's office.

My mammogram seemed to be going fine but then I was called back for a 're do' of part of the magnification views. Again, sit and wait....... and then I had an ultrasound. I was told this office never does JUST a mammogram. After a visit with a few ladies who were also waiting, I was taken into the doctor's office. Waited there for about 20 mins. and then was asked to come back for another set of mammograpy films on the side that had no problems. By now I was very anxious so Jim came and sat with me. Doctor called out from across the hall that I was 'not to be concerned' that she'd asked for clearer films. I love Dr. Steinhause because when she comes into the room, she immediately says 'Everythings fine!' No 'Hey, how are you' but right to the point so the worry is gone. My microcalcifications have not changed in 13 months so are just calcium deposits about the size of a pin point and nothing to be concerned about. The extra films were because the first tech is new and didn't get clear or close enough views for doctor. I will get a formal letter in the mail from the radiologist, but doctor said I'm back to once a year and can continue on with their practice as a 'high risk' because of my mother. You can't get in to see them unless you ARE considered high risk so I feel super blessed to have such a well known group handling my health concerns.

Wow, then we got home only an hour before visitation and it was my night. Jim and I didn't go for the supper portion but made it right as people were about to head out. We were unable to find one family because there were 7 or 8 houses and trailers down a group of gravel roads that all were 2355 Liberty Church Rd. The other family was a really nice visit. The wife has a serious and genetic kidney disease. Her mother has done well all these years but this lady is very ill and losing blood so badly that she now is going to need weekly transfusions. She does gravity controlled diaylisis at home and work four times a day. I invited her to join us here as I've seen this disease mentioned on another thread and thought it might help her to find others to chat with about what life is like when you're so very ill. What a wonderful spirit this family has tho!

Well, I'm watching Super Nanny with the dog. Nick's playing a game and Jim's got a record going. Scooter's waiting for someone to come scratch his nose....... LOL

Wishing you all a great day tomorrow and thanking you for your prayers!

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Spring has surely arrived! Pollen has turned everything yellow and green... cars, window sills, lawn furniture included! Everyone is sneezing like crazy. I'm thankful it doesn't bother me as much as others.

Today went pretty quickly even with the extra child. I enjoy the toddler and he's so funny and cute. He was only here for about 2 hours but his mother pays me VERY generously. I really sometimes think I could just do some drop ins instead of a third child and make more. I have to pretty quickly make a decision about 2 boys I've been asked to watch this summer for 11 weeks. They're 3 and 7. Since Sadie is the child of 2 teachers, I won't have her for June and July. I'll only have one infant. Hmmmmm Jim's work income goes up during the spring, summer and fall but drops to bare minimum in the winter. Again.... hmmmm

So, I spent some time out back today while the last baby slept. Scooter and I were in the big swing and the sun was so warm and relaxing. I can't wait to get my garden soil and get started on my Butterfly Garden. The next few days is going to be very warm and just lovely!

Tomorrow is AWANA and I've decided to do the story of "Jesus and the IRS". I'm thinking about making a big fish and covering it with broken bits of old CD Roms as the scales and putting a coin in its mouth. I use that for April 15th each year and this is my last lesson before then. My problem is our time has been stretched, and I need to fill up 35 to 40 mins. with all those K - 2nd graders.

I have an appointment to get my teeth cleaned and a flouride treatment next Wednesday. I don't dread those appointments like I usually do because I have it done at the college. Not only is it the very best cleaning and check up I've ever had, but they do it all for $27.00! The work is checked by a teacher AND a dentist! My usual dentist doesn't give flouride treatments for adults either.

Well I hope everyone is having a very nice week and enjoying the spring weather. I know we are!

God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

Happy Wednesday Everyone! I sure rushed around, trying to do way too much in way too short a time tonight. I did get to AWANA to find the Commander had come to do a lesson, not understanding the man who called in is not the person who does our story. Worked out okay for me tho. I arrived and found two of the side doors locked. I tried to take a shortcut and found two other doors locked, so was a few mins. late arriving! I have to admit that I will be glad when we're finished for the year, and I'm seriously considering this being my last year in AWANA for now. With children all day, and working with children in Sunday School, I'm about worn out. Nick will be moving into the youth group in a year, so he won't even be at church at the same time. I guess I feel this way every year when we have about 8 weeks left, tho. This is the end of my 6th year.

I went and got my nails and toenails done tonight. I got a pretty shade of bright peach with flowers on my ring fingers. Very pretty! It's relaxing to have it done and I like looking nice.

One of my babies slept most of the day. Mom's giving her decongestant and I think that's why. The other is really starting to grow. She doesn't even look like the teeny infant I got 4 months ago! I'm getting so very much done each day! Having just the two has worked out better than I could have expected! The Lord has even provided extra income with drop in daycare and other means.

I didn't get anything really done outside today. I think I got into something I'm allergic to. My arms and hands have a very itchy blister spots. The older I get, the more sensitive my skin! I did some planning tho. I've never been allergic to poison ivy but this looks like a very mild case. Sure does itch! I've got some steroid cream for it already.

Hubby's at choir, puppy's chewing a bone and Nick's on his PS2. He just came in from a bike ride. We'd watched an Anthony Burger DVD earlier.

Well, I have some clothes to iron, some clothes to fold and need to get Nick to help me move some toys he and the neighbor kids left on the garage floor. I can't put my car away for the night til then and we are not 'car in the drive' type folk. Garages are for cars, not junk!

I got our insurance cards for the new company today and the office visit charge went from $10 - $35, specialist from $20 - $35, and outpatient surgery jumped from $100. to $500. I'm soooooooo glad I had my eye surgery early! Also, there's an 80/20 for hospital stays with a $2,000 limit on out of pocket for us. Certainly something we can deal with! I'm just so thankful the Lord has been faithful and good to us!

Have a wonderful evening and remember......

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart." Hebrews 12:1-3

What a lovely day this has been! We couldn't have asked for more beautiful weather! I sat outside on the deck and in the big swing for quite a while. Our windows and doors are all open and we have a gentle breeze.

We cooked out steak and baked potatoes on the grill tonight. I was very hungry for steak! Hubby's steaks are better than OutBack. The kitchen is cleaned and all I need to get done tonight is to fold a load of towels.

I only have one infant tomorrow. Sadie's going to the beach with mom and relatives. She'll be back Sunday night. Abigail has her well baby check up on Monday so she'll come late. I sure do like sleeping in! I can stay in bed til almost 7:30 and so can hubby! Nick's now sleeping in very late and seems to be growing before our eyes. Even the dog is sleeping longer, waiting until I've brought in both infants before he gets off his big bed wanting to go out for his walk.

I've done more planning for my Butterfly garden. I have a water fountain that looks like an antique pump. Because of the red clay, it has to be 'raised'. I'm thinking of moving it into the garden and surrounding it with Salvia and Bee Balm. COREOPSIS is a must! The smell is not pretty but it spreads and would cover any bare spots pretty soon. I hope to find purple Butterfly Bushes. I have one white and don't really care for it. I'd found one in orange a few years ago, but it died immediately.

I'll fill the box with pinebark mulch (large chunks) and then either put some chickenwire around it until Scooter gets the idea or even a short white picket fence. My fear is the picket fencing would keep me from enjoying the flowers for a few years. It would also be more expense that could go for more flowers!

A final thought is to re do something hubby did for me at our new home in Cleveland, Ga. We had a blank spot where the fireplace stuck out, just like here. He used white plastic lattice and framed it in 2 X 4's. He cemented the long portion of the 2 X 4's into the ground and I grew a beautiful and colorful vine on the white lattice. It was strikingly beautiful against the cream colored siding on the fireplace/ chimney. That lies directly behind the 'garden' I'm creating! Seems perfect to me!

This isn't mine, but you get the idea.

We still need to pick up the right bird seed. Hubby got all sunflower seed and it won't easily dispense from my feeders. The squirrels and ground feeders don't mind, but I saw a pair of ruby throated house finch tonight looking for food. I guess you have realized by now that I enjoy birdwatching, Butterfies, squirrels and chipmunks. I feed them all. We've also had a 6 ft black rat snake in our yard, several large turtles and a rabbit for a while. The most squirrels we could identify or see at one time was 9 and chipmunks, 5. That's only the backyard, tho. We also have a new woodpecker who tries to peck our gutter. It sounds like a tiny machine gun about 7 a.m. every morning.

I do hope you've all have a wonderful week and are overwhelmed with God's blessings!

"Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; And hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. Let my teaching drop as the rain, My speech distill as the dew, As raindrops on the tender herb, And as showers on the grass. For I proclaim the name of the Lord: Ascribe greatness to our God. He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.
Deuteronomy 32:1 - 4

Happy Weekend Friends!

My only daycare infant for today has been gone for almost 2 hours, but hubby got a call about termites swarming in a kitchen and rushed out, right here in town. I don't mind.

I had a very lazy day! Abigail came in and I put her into the playpen where she laid right over and went right back to sleep. Well, I'm no fool! I laid down on my bed (right next to the playpen) and went back to sleep. At 10:00, Nick came in and said 'Mom...... It's 10:00!' I was sleeping so hard too!

I did a little raking outback today around my deck and around the soon to be Butterfly Garden. I had planned for us to go out and get some garden soil and plants tonight. Maybe we still can. It's almost 80° and not a cloud in the sky! We have been told all day to expect horrible storms tonight and all day tomorrow, but weatherbug shows it moving up and away from us.

I talked with hubby and he didn't want the above ground pool put back up. Too much trouble, etc. So.... I sold it and he said I can have all the money for my flowers. I'd also done some extra babysitting this week so I have $135. just to get started! He'd already told me he'd buy me what I wanted and needed for this project.

Nick has been outside in shorts only for most of the day. I've done my best to encourage him to put on a shirt, but he is determined he's not burned. He looks fine, so far! He really, really dislikes being teased at church for being so light skinned.

I'm going to get really serious about trying to get back to my more comfortable weight. I did eat Jelly Beans today...... but for supper just had a green salad with a small amount of steak from last night. I've also been good and only had 1 1/2 Pepsi's today. If only I'd not eaten those Jelly Beans! I can usually drop 5-10 lbs right away. It's that last 10 lbs that is hard to lose, and then I get discouraged. I want to weigh between 119 and 124lbs. Remember, I'm very short. I DO have large bones tho! My shin bones are larger than my husbands and he's not a thin man!

Well, hopefully he'll come in soon so we can begin our weekend whether we head out flower shopping tonight or tomorrow isn't a big deal.

Sunday night is the Cantata so he'll have practice in the afternoon...... Next week is to be lovely weather again and Abigail won't come on Monday until almost lunch time. Oh how I like this sleeping later! Our goal is to someday not have the need for me to do any childcare, just be wife and mom again! Unless, of course, it's our grandkids!

God Bless and have a wonderful and safe weekend. Don't forget Sunday is Palm Sunday!

And He did this for you.

There were at least four tornado's in the area last night and we had no damage at all! In fact, I saw none as we went out flower shopping and then back out for some more things this afternoon. The pictures on the local news websites are horrible tho.

We went out this morning and bought the flowers for my Butterfly Garden. I looked at so many, I'll try to tell you what we bought! We got 4 Butterfly bushes. We chose the 1 gal. containers since they were less than 1/3rd the price of the spindley plants that had a bloom or two. We got one large Weigelia in a purpleish red. We got one Honeysuckle bush in red. We also got two very different Callalilies. One is yellow with a dark red throat and one is pink with a bluish throat. The yellow is tall while the deep pink is more mounded and a fuller plant. We also got two large yellow flowering bushes. The name eludes me but it's not forsythia. These grow rounded and are deciduous. I'll have to look at the tags again.

Later I went out and got 240 lbs of top soil for less than $6.00 and an unpainted bird bath. I have four birth baths already, but one had cracked two years ago and we used it for a squirrel feeder. It got knocked over this spring and shattered. Down to three. One is in the center of all my bird feeders, one is a wooded area of our front yard and one is in a corner area of our back yard where I have one butterfly bush and one rose bush. Other bushes were planted there but didn't thrive because of being under 5 trees. Now I need to decide what color to paint this one. With so many pinks and purples in the Butterfly Garden, I'm thinking a pale pink with white accents. I had a pink one years ago but left it when the movers overlooked it and we had no room in the final car load. It was very beautiful! The creator had actually colored the cement and then added the accent colors later.

All in all, with chicken wire and metal stakes, flowers, birdbath and 'dirt', we spent $170.00. I have so many ideas now for our back yard! I wish I could draw it out for you so will TRY to paint a mental picture.

Our deck is on the right hand side when you face the back of my house. The steps are off the side. In the middle of the deck railing, I have a yellow Jasmine that's been there a few years and is filled with yellow flowers and spreading on the deck and railing. I'd like to come out about 2 feet and create a flower bed from one end to the other, blocking it in with the same wood the deck and 'Butterfly Garden' are built of. On the far right end, by the steps to the deck, I have a VERY large purple Butterfly bush that is about 6 - 7 ft tall even after my pruning this year. I'd put in short plants that can tolerate partial sun / shade there because right after noon, the house blocks that area.

Next, from where the Butterfly Garden ends and down to the end of the house, I'd like to put in 4- 6 Forsythia bushes. I started those as 'sticks' in Connecticut and by the end of the first year, had big bushes. I did trim them weekly to keep them mounded and not 'leggy'.

In front of those bushes and next to the Butterfly Garden, I'd like to put down some patio brick maybe in a 6 foot square with a park bench or wooden swing. By doing all these things, I've taken care of a good bit of my red clay! I'll do that on an angle facing slightly toward the new garden instead of straight out back.

The very back 2/3rds of our backyard is under trees and the hundreds of years of leaves mulching has left a black compost type soil but there are too many roots and shade to grow anything more than Hoystas ( expensive and what if Doggie tore them up??) or ferns. Ferns sounds like fun. I'd consider English Ivy except we live in Lost Lake and across the street and down a few homes IS the Lake. We have our share of Rattlers, Copperheads and non poisonous snakes. Ivy would also be hard to walk on and we enjoy the rustic and wooded look....... wandering around with Scooter, exploring moss and finding Black Widows hanging from webs next to holes in the ground. Remember, we're talking almost an acre of land!

I took a before picture of the area I'm going to start work on, but even hate to show you! It's horrid! Please remember, we've seeded this area 7 times now, using very expensive grass seed, have actually rototilled it and the builder had seeded it before we moved in!

WARNING: THIS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!

The chimney will have a white lattice trellis with a flowering vine, as in the above post, and we'll either plant something in front of the air conditioner unit or box it in with some short fencing. I'll probably opt for floral...... but grass DOES grow over there. Go figure!

Well now you've seen my dirty secret! I'm so ashamed! We had the most beautiful yard in our neighborhood up north. People would walk by daily to wander through my 'English Garden'. I created the appearance of broken stone walkways by different plantings covering portions of my sidewalk and had a full sized wishing well on one side.

I'm SO excited! I've had absolutely no fun for years! We had no funds to do anything and then I had the older daycare kids who used our back yard and would dig holes, trample flowers, etc.......... Keeping only infants not only gives me some extra free time because of their naps, but they'll all enter daycare or preschool before the age where they'd destroy any new growth.

Nick is excited and is helping us. He had the Garden Claw in the garden area earlier tonight. We've loosened down about 6 -8 inches to prep for mixing in the top soil. He enjoys bird watching and butterfly identification, too. We have speakers (weatherproof) hanging above the deck and we've actually put in some nature sounds CD's to see if it attracts birds. No report so far.

We're going to try and get some of the plants in tomorrow afternoon but the Cantata is tomorrow night and hubby has to 'report' at 5:00. That doesn't leave much time between services to do a lot! Maybe I can get Jon to carry the soil around and put it in for me. I am waiting to buy the large chunk pine bark mulch until the plants are in place so I can better guess how much I need. Right now I'm thinking 6 bags. I had no room left in my VUE tonight anyhow, and rain had moved back in for about an hour.

Well, I do hope everyone enjoyed their Saturday as much as I did!

Song of Solomon 2:10 My beloved spoke, and said to me: "Rise up, my love, my fair one, And come away. 11 For lo, the winter is past, The rain is over and gone. 12 The flowers appear on the earth; The time of singing has come, And the voice of the turtledove Is heard in our land. 13 The fig tree puts forth her green figs, And the vines with the tender grapes Give a good smell. Rise up, my love, my fair one, And come away!

God Bless!

I hope everyone has had a lovely day in the Lord's House! I just got in from our Easter Cantata. It was spectacular! We have 'The Passion at Sunset' on Friday, an Egg Hunt with the 'Real Reason for Easter' on Saturday and the church on Sunday this week. With AWANA on Wed., this is going to be a very busy but joyous Passion week.

Well my flowers are in and I got the names of the yellow flowers and then realized I'd left off a flower. I have Columbines in a purple and white and the yellow are from the 'broom' family. The name is 'Sweet Broom'.

Don't you just love the gorgeous watercolors I've used in my last few posts? If you're in California, the artist is having a one woman show open to the public in May. I do not know her but am very taken with her talent. Every piece of her work is so real!
Here's the link to the info on her show.
http://www.susieferry.com/Assets/PagesForImages/artshowflyerelectronic.htm
I'd love to be able to attend. Maybe she'll travel and have a show in Atlanta some day.

Back to my garden, I primed the bird bath white and still haven't decided exactly how I want it done. It's in place and has water in it for any visitors. All I've not gotten done in that bed is putting down the mulch. I need one of my guys to carry it UP the side yard and around to the back. I have 5 heavy bags. Maybe Jon will wake early enough to do it before work tomorrow. Jim carried all the top soil, forty pounds at a time. It does look so very different. We will do the lattice and climbing vine later.

Our pastor's wife has been VERY ill! They'd met some friends at Disney and she had been ill with a sinus infection. She didn't realize it had moved into the deeper sinus cavities and when they took her to the ER, she was hours away from death with spinal meningitis from the sinus infection! She spent days in the hospital and is still pretty ill. Bro. Preston said her head is still really hurting but they're so thankful she'll be fine. Her name is Diane Nix and I'd appreciate prayers for her and their lovely family.

Well, I'm quite tired tonight. Between a long day at church and lots of yard work in the hot sun, I'm beat. I think I've already got a touch of sun poisoning on my arm. I tend to get it the first exposure each year and it'll itch until I think I can't stand it another minute! Then it's gone til next year.

Wishing you all a lovely night.....

God Bless,
Diane Tavegia

Psalm 119:10 With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! 11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You! 12 Blessed are You, O Lord! Teach me Your statutes! 13 With my lips I have declared All the judgments of Your mouth. 14 I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, As much as in all riches. 15 I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways. 16 I will delight myself in Your statutes;
I will not forget Your word.

My Butterfly Garden is completed!

The bad news is, Scooter figured out very quickly how to nose under the edge of the chicken wire to steal the big chunks of pine bark. He'd dug 3 tiny holes in the edge of the flower bed but we stapled the wire to the wood tonight and Jim will be picking up some more fence stakes tomorrow.

I joined a Yahoo Group that is a NW Ga. plant exchange group and already have have people offer me some plants! One woman was coming to pick up something I'm giving away on freecycle and is bringing me a forsythia bush tomorrow. I'm going to begin working on the area along the deck now and will head to the area along the back wall of the house after that. My fourth project will be a triangle at the corner of our yard that screams for a big flower bed but is in shade all day.

So, did everyone watch 'Honey We're Killing the Kids'? Could you believe what that family usually ate? I'm sorry, but if I were the hostess, I would have jumped on Mom for her poor example before insisting the kids make such major changes. I also noticed Dad snickering a number of times. Hope it was 'nervous laughter' and not that he found the situation funny.

Oh I have to tell you! We had a pair of Indigo Bunting at our feeder tonight. We also had maybe 50 Goldfinch early in the day. They generally come through one day and then leave. I've seen Titmouse, Nuthatch, Eastern Bluebirds, Robins, Blue Jays, Ruby Throated House Finch, Woodpeckers and the Bunting. I'm watching for a special Grossbeak that is seldom seen in Georgia but has come to my yard one or two days each year the last few years. I'll get the Blue Grossbeak but this one has a bright red throat! I've not seen the Brown Headed Cow Bird or any Mourning Doves yet this year. No cardinals either. Generally a red bird is a sign of spring. Odd.....

I got to talk with our daughter in Conn. today. She's changing jobs so she can have a 9- 5 job and no weekends. Hopefully her husband will get a job.... (Rolling my eyes again!) I talked to our son in Maryland for a few mins. He was quite busy with work so we couldn't talk long. They both work for the same company but different branches right now.

Hubby was sure busy today. Termites are swarming and people get scared when they realize their floor is spongey from the destruction! It's too late then. Boy, you should see the pictures he brings home on his digital camera of $500,000 homes with massive damage! He checked my Sentricon stations yesterday and we have no activity even tho there's a termite colony every 5 feet in Georgia. YIKES! I do not like bugs! No thank you!

Want to hear something funny? We'd bought a 'puppy pool' last summer when we first got Scooter. It's basically a kids little wading pool. I brought it out to put water in, since he loves water play so much, and before I could get the hose, he's using it as the worlds largest Frisbee! He's slinging it all over the yard, landing in it and sliding down the hill, growling at it and then brings it to my feet for me to throw! Our neighbors must have gotten a real laugh if they saw us.

Soon our trees will be covered with leaves and our backyard will be very private and cool. I've taken many, many naps in our swing under the trees. I laid down this weekend and Scooter jumped right up with me. He likes to swing ..... He is really very good for a 10 month old puppy who just happens to weigh about 70 lbs. Hubby would give him away within 10 seconds if I'd agree. He tolerates my animals because he loves me so much and can't stand to not give me the few things I desire. He's a good husband. Shucks... our 7 lb cat takes 1/3rd of our fullsized bed and Jim only teasingly complains.

Don't you just love the little painting above? I don't remember where I googled it from but see the puppy in the flowers with a boot, a ball and bat and the wagon? I think the picture is very sweet and made me feel like a child again on a warm summer's day.

I hope you all are enjoying spring as much as I. It's been too many years since I've gotten to dig in the dirt and be creative!

Mark 4:30 Then He said, "To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? 31 It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; 32 but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches,
so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade."

Salvation that comes from trusting Christ,
which is the message we preach, is already within easy reach.
In fact, the Scriptures say, "The message is close at hand;
it is on your lips and in your heart."

It's always something!

Nick and two other lunatic boys took a short cut through the neighbor's back yard and decided to skip the bridge and walk the creek bed. Wasn't too long and they were sinking in mud up to their waist. Now Nick is the tallest by far and he was trapped! The boys were able to grab hold of some vines and pull themselves to the edge of the creek bank and then out. Nick had on a good shirt, his best shorts and...... his cell phone is now dead with a two year plan still in effect. We were able to get the phone disconnected and a lesser 'fee' for the two years which HE is going to have to repay! We had bought my mother a cell phone for Mother's Day last year but she always returns anything I give her. She claimed it didn't hold a charge. It's been in the box for all that time..... and was still fully charged. We gave him that phone with 2 months being grounded from playing with those two boys, a very stern lecture on leadership versus following the ideas of less mature boys, no phone except his grandmother or birthmother for 2 months and he has to work off the $7.00 a month doing what I choose he has to do outside his usual chores. I was quite bad, and warned him to check for leeches and ticks when he bathed. He'll think twice before he jumps in a filthy creek again! This is the run off from Lost Lake.

So, a friend from the N.W. Georgia Plant Exchange came by with a couple of plants for me tonight. She took pictures of my new little garden. She really loved my choices in plants and had never seen Callalilies in these colors. We had a nice visit. I'm really having so much fun working in my yard again and have had numerous offers of free plants, if I can just go get them this weekend. Jon's supposed to have off Fri. - Sun. and he's a gardener too. In fact, he cut the grass, edged the whole yard, cleaned up the two big flower beds out front and edged the smaller bed in front of part of our house. He also trimmed my box shrubs nicely, and all before work.

We went out for supper tonight and had an antipasta and I had a sandwich. Jim had a big meal but I'm trying to watch my calories, again.

I have my appointment with the dental hygenist at the college tomorrow morning. She called to remind me today, and I asked for x-rays even tho it's only been 6 months. I tend to get cavities easily, and want to find them early instead of having another abscess! She told me about a gel she has that helps teeth that are sensitive to hot and cold and offered to use it tomorrow. I'll have a flouride treatment, too. Hope I have no cavities! We don't have dental insurance yet.

Well, I'm a bit tired after a busy day with babies, yard work, house work and yelling at Nick. LOL. I also talked to our daughter and my mother for a while. Tomorrow night is AWANA and then our busy Passion Weekend begins!

God Bless and .......

Katerine Hepburn said in Stage Door,
"The callalilies are in bloom again. Such a strange flower, suitable to any occasion. I carried them on my wedding day and now I place them here in memory of something that has died."

This is just ONE of the flowers in my Butterfly Garden! Lovely, isn't it? My new friend, Mary Ann, took this the other night and sent it out for all to see.

My garden is just looking so very pretty! I need to take a picture of the whole thing but keep wanting to do it when the sun isn't bearing down so badly. Then puppy thinks HE is to be the subject of any shot.

I've met the nicest group off a Georgia plant exchange on Yahoo. Funny, sweet, kind, sharing...... I've been offered a number of mature plants and flowers. I'm going Saturday to pick some up after the Easter Egg Hunt at church.

Well....... I'm not a happy camper tonight! I had my teeth cleaned and went from having a few deep pockets in the gum, some bleeding spots and plaque in 7 areas to an 1 A patient BUT......... I requested X-rays, even tho I'd had them only 6 months ago, and they showed 2 shadows under 2 newer porcelain composite fillings. One of the teeth had been a very deep cavity which we filled with a temp filling, waited six months and then filled. The other was pretty much a small cavity under an old filling. Why oh Why did THESE develop cavities?

I did check with Jim's work and we should have had Blue Cross dental on March 6th so that'll be fixed in a few days. I'll have to decide now what to do. My first thought is to take the x-rays to the endodontist who did my one root canal. I will NOT allow myself to get another abscess. The antibiotic they gave me made me deathly ill, losing 30 pounds in 7 days and a $3000. hospital bill! My other thought is to see the dentist who did the composites but I wonder why oh why........ The back molar that had such a serious and deep cavity may just need pulling. I have no intention of taking a wait and see attitude and risk an abscess on either tooth. What to do, what to do?? If it's a root canal, that doctor gives you a script for Valium and then puts headphones on you so you don't know or care what he's doing to your mouth! I had to be carried to the chair tho! LOLOL Whew.. Fun experience!

So, I had my teeth cleaned, a treatment for sensitive teeth, flouride treatment and x-rays for $35. Best Cleaning under the sun at the Dental Hygiene School in Douglasville! Hubby goes there also.

Hubby was sure busy today! Termites and roaches, fireants and mice.... Ah! Music to our ears.

Well, y'all have a GREAT night and lovely rest of the week!

God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

This is a partial 'after' picture of the horrible sandbox photo a few posts up. I couldn't get it all in and then my batteries died. You get the idea! You can't view my Columbine or 3 Butterfly Bushes in this photo. The blank area on the other side of this photo is where I'd like to put patio stones with either a wooden swing or park bench at an angle. That would sure help cover some of the red clay!

How is everyone this lovely Thursday? We're getting excited about this weekend, beginning with the showing of The Passion of the Christ tomorrow night under the stars. Saturday is an Easter Egg Hunt that is preceeded with Pastor explaining what Easter is REALLY about to the parents and kids.

I talked with the hygenist today about the shadows on my x-rays and she told me the spots were very tiny and not anywhere near the pulp or nerve. That's good news. Jim's work had put through for dental insurance and the owner's wife is checking on why the cards didn't include that info. I CAN use my regular dentist too. We have a $50. per family deductible. I spent $35. yesterday and hubby has his cleaning next week for $27. That takes care of THAT! LOL I'm just glad there's no abscess waiting to happen in just days! I'll get in to see Dr. Camp as soon as the insurance is in effect. He's a wonderful man.

I've got lots of flowers to pick up this weekend from a couple of people. I'm excited about that too! I have a LARGE triangle spot that would be perfect for Mexican Broom, which grows four foot tall and up to six foot tall! The soil in the area is rock hard tho. Not sure how I'd manage to dig big enough holes under those five trees! All in due time, tho.

Hubby has been so very busy. Termites swarmed again today! We have Sentricon so don't have to worry, but he did bait two stations by two old trees that are full of termites. We'll have them killed off in a week.

I hope everyone has a Blessed Good Friday. I have to do childcare for one infant and Jim has to work, but schools are closed here.

God Keep You Well.......

A Blessed Good Friday to all......

We'll be heading out soon for 'The Passion at Sunset' with our church and community. It's a cookout and then a showing of The Passion of the Christ. I still need to find a sweater in case it cools down and load our chairs into the car but I'm ready, other than that. I'm sure it's going to be quite an experience. I've seen the movie four times already but that was a year or more ago.

Tomorrow is an Easter Egg Hunt and then I've been offered plants by several ladies. It's to be VERY hot again, so I'll check with them to see if they're still up for being outside. We don't use air conditioning until the hottest days of summer, but many are already locked in their homes all day.

Most of my day has been spent talking to my wayward brother on the phone. Our childhood affects him so badly and sometimes he just needs to talk. Today was one of those days. The need for family was never met...... and he'll be 53 in May. It's amazing to me how the same experiences can affect two children so very differently. Be careful, moms and dads, for every word or action has a reaction!

Have a great evening and God Bless!

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the
ungodly. Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous person --
though perhaps for a good person someone might actually dare to
die. But God proves his love for us in that while we still were
sinners Christ died for us. Much more surely then, now that we have
been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from the
wrath of God. For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to
God through the death of his Son, much more surely, having been
reconciled, will we be saved by his life. But more than that, we
even boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we
have now received reconciliation. Romans 5:6-11

Today has sure been a boring day..... I'd had plans to go over and pick up some flowers from a couple of people in another town but hubby got up in a very foul mood and everything got off kilter.

Jim had left his garage door opener in a loaner car he'd had for a day while his car was being 'checked' and he had to drive an hour each way to pick it up. He didn't even take his cell phones.

Nick and I got up, took some donations to the Fullerville Mission, some clothes to the consignment shop and went to the Easter Egg Hunt at church. It was really neat! The Crazy Tie Guy www.crazytieguy.com did our Easter story and there were 'moon walk' type activities plus the hunt was divided into age groups. Nick found SO many eggs that his basket was overflowing and he shared with another boy. The kids seemed to really have fun.

On our way home, we stopped at a neighborhood yard sale and the grandfather had made bird feeders and bird houses. I bought two feeders and a bird house for $3. each. They also had Matchbox and Hotwheels still in their packages for 25 cents! I got some for Nick and 25 for our grandson. I looked at a couple of dresses she had for sale because I don't have anything I can get my fluffy self into for church tomorrow but refuse to buy bigger sizes. So, that was soooooooo much fun.

Jim came in, still in a bad mood and then went back out to get some more stakes for my Butterfly Garden. He'd been 'going to pick some up' all week and puppy found a way into the garden earlier today and broke off part of one Callalilly. It looks like he'd done some chewing on one too. They're considered poisonous but only because they'll cause swelling of the moist / soft mouth parts. Scooter doesn't seem swollen or bothered in the least but he had dug up part of the plant. Shucks, maybe it was a possum that sneaks into our yard instead. We didn't SEE who did the digging. I threw out the broken off piece and filled in the hole. Jim never noticed but then couldn't find either of his good hammers. We looked for an hour. More bad vibes..... UG! Never found either hammer. He's determined my dog has buried them both in the back yard. I don't think Scooter knows how to get into the workshop off the garage.

Nick is now out playing with friends and Jim is channel surfing. He seems a little less icky. Of course, his bad mood ruined everyone else's day.

I really don't like never getting to do anything or go anywhere. If it's not AWANA or Sunday church, I am always, always, always at home. I'd love to just be able to get in my car and go to the library or for a walk in the woods. Anything! So, like I said..... Boring!

The rest of my day has been spent sitting, doing nothing, talking to no one and just being BORED! Won't someone come over and sit on the deck with me today?

Happy Easter Everyone!

Oh what a spectular service we had today! The sermon was excellent! We really, really love Dr. Preston Nix, our interim Pastor. His wife was well enough to attend today. I'd posted a prayer request for her last week. She had a sinus infection that went into viral meningitis. I have to wonder, since they'd returned to New Orleans to retrieve some of their things, if some fungus or bacteria had gotten into her body then and she fought it off for a few months. She still has to have IV's at home during the day, but is mending really well. She looked GREAT! Her name is Diane Nix and I do thank all of you who prayed for her.

We lost three church members to death this week. Two were precious older men that we knew well. One was a retired pastor with the sweetest spirit you'd ever seen! He died yesterday and his wife was in Sunday School and church today. The other was ten years older and had sang in our choir for over 40 years. What nice guys. I didn't know the other person, as they were already elderly and ill by time we came here almost 6 years ago.

We're silly. We had seafood for lunch instead of our typical ham and then Jon took us to Joe's Crab Shack for supper. That's a chain restaurant with a big play area for kids. Nick didn't eat one bite but then we brought home SO much food!

I really am serious now. I want to lose the weight I had gained back. Doctor blames menopause BUT that should be leveling off now. I ate two meals today but didn't over eat either meal. For some reason, I've had an immense appetite for a few months. It made me wonder if I had an ulcer! I was just hungry all the time. Jim thinks it's boredom from me just being stuck home all day and night, weekends too. It could be.... and now that I'm out in the yard so much, I don't feel hungry.

I haven't chosen the plants for along my deck but we have the chickenwire to put up to keep puppy out. My Butterfly bushes that were less than $2.00 are growing very quickly but they get leggy and aren't pretty year round. I only need four plants for that area since my bright yellow jasmine vine is in the middle, and I can have a bush that grows to 6 or so feet since the deck is raised. I'm thinking two of the broom plants and two of something else unless I can find Mexican broom. Those grow up to 6 feet wide!! I don't want to make the mistake I made when I first began gardening in Connecticut tho. I chose all shades of purple and it was quite boring. I have 3 yellow plants plus one yellow callalilly. I have 5 purple butterfly bushes and a red and white columbine, red wiegelia. Hmmmmm.... Maybe a broom plant in oranges? I believe it's called 'Witches Broom'. I had 2 in Connecticut that were beautiful. Didn't grow very large tho!

Here's a link to view a Mexican Broom plant. Spanish Gold Mexican Broom CLICK

Oh I'll know when I see it what's to go where. Then I'll begin my partial shade garden. These 'garden' shops on the web will have layouts with suggestions! I just have to break up and amend that soil before doing anything in that corner! YIKES!

Well, I hope you all have had a wonderful Easter and have laughed as hard as I. Wishing you all a lovely week ahead and God's good grace upon your lives.

John 20:11 But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the tomb. 12 And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. 13 Then they said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him."

14 Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?" She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, "Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away."

16 Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to Him, "Rabboni!" (which is to say, Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, "Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, 'I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.' "
