OK, here's a substitute for the food threads, only today we are featuring Hawaiian foods, er foods eaten in Hawaii Ah, poke. I think Trishy explained it pretty well. Now that is a Hawaiian food, the sashimi we were speaking about earlier is more Oriental, or I guess Japanese. The Japanese don't have a lot of cattle on their islands, so they eat a lot of fish. And tofu. Which contains a lot of plant estrogen for you female types....... Breakfast in Hawaii - Portuguese sausage and eggs. Or chicken (we eat the losers, whoops don't know if I should say that [;)]). Rice, always rice. Brown or white, with shoyu and ume (Trishy, you eat ume?) French toast Hawaiian style with Portuguese sweet bread and lilikoi jam. Or there's all kinds of Chinese, Filipino, Korean (spicy hot) even haole (usually caucasian) foods too! Fruits, do we have fruits. Mango, lilikoi, guava, pineapple, mountain apple, starfruit, local strawberries, poha, ah the list goes on.....And for you vegetarian types, Hawaiians eat a lot of poi (well, so of us do) made with taro. Babies fed a lot of poi are well nourished [:D] I know I'm forgetting a lot, will try to remember so more later......
