Ok here I am, at the One Stop Thread. I am so confused. Not sure if I am posting this right. But I am feeling a ton of emptiness. Nothing seems to be able to fill me. I am just existing and going through the day like a robot that has been programmed to live.

I'm having problems with self-defeating thoughts. I was having these thoughts before my meds were increased. They are about the same as before the increase in meds.

Some of the thoughts go like this:

"Hey, I got all of the laundry done this week!" "No, you didn't fold that last load of socks and undies that are still in the dryer." Then they start spiraling downward from there. They go downhill until I've made myself feel completely worthless. If I catch myself doing it, I can usually stop myself.

I know that I'm not the only one who has ever done this. I was just wondering what some tips are for catching this behavior and stopping it?

I do plan on calling my pdoc tomorrow to let her know that this is still going on. However, it has only been three days since the meds were increased, so she may tell me to wait a little longer.

The meds can take a LONG time to start being effective. Mine were increased two weeks ago but the full effect won't be felt for another 4 weeks. I was doing that same thing last week. What I did that changed how I was doing was go down to my prayer room (though I didn't want to go) and spent a couple hours with God. He led me to Psalm 139 and I started praying it to him, trying to believe and own each part I prayed--arguing each part with him until I believed them. I was actually feeling quite high when I was done, whereas before I started I was certain that I was on a major downward slide. {{{{{{{{Roberta}}}}}}}}}}

hi supernova

Glad you made it here.

I suggested to you in the other thread that you go back to your doctor. You said you were on Prozac, it could be that your dose needs adjusting or you may even benefit from being on something different. My mother found that for her Prozac stopped working after about 3 months - Zoloft is suiting her much better.

Roberta ~ yes, many people do have those kind of thoughts. Sometimes it is not an adjustment in our medication that we need, but an adjustment in our thinking. It does take work to stop them, but over time it should become more automatic.

So you should be able to switch your thinking about this

quote:

"Hey, I got all of the laundry done this week!" "No, you didn't fold that last load of socks and undies that are still in the dryer."
to something like this

'Hey, I got all of the laundry done this week!' 'No, you didn't fold that last load of socks and undies that are still in the dryer.' 'Well noone needs folded socks and undies and people will know where they are if they're all in the same place, besides, it was far more important that I took 5 minutes for myself than folded a load of socks and undies!'

Supernova ~ I agree with Manda that you need to speak with your doctor again about your treatment.

I made it to my lawyer yesterday. She told me it can take up to 2 years to get a hearing. I am not upset though, God is in control. Been thinking about a part-time job to get me out of the house more, I just hope that I can find an employer that is willing to tolerate my depression issues.

Some awesome things have been happening in my life lately. I met a very sweet gal on MySpace who also lives in my town. I made it to another Celebrate Recovery group last night and it was awesome, God has really used that ministry and it's people to encourage me, plus we had pizza lol!

I also made a schedule this week, something that I have not done in a loooooong time. I plan to hit a bible study on Wednesday and Friday, then hit Sunday School before worship service. I need God's strength to do this. Being around other believers is helping!

Sober since October 6th, 2008.

Well, everyone has been pulling their socks and undies out of the dryer since Saturday night. I haven't heard any complaints. The dryer is almost empty now. I hate matching up socks. I think this could be a trend.

Thank you Maggie for sharing Psalm 139. It is a beautiful Scripture.

Aga, you are right. It is a behavioral thing.

Hi Manda!

Supernova and Limulus, how are you doing?

I am doing much better these days. The only credit I can give is to God and how he is using other Christians in my life. I have been filled with joy (a positive attitude). The Celebrate Recovery group has been such a blessing to know I am not the only one going through the pains in my life. I have also decided on a church home http://www.westsideomaha.org/ . I am still a bit lonely these days, but I talk to God and know that he has a plan. I need his help with patience. I could use some prayer about a possible job that I might be able to get around November, it would also be an excellent ministry opportunity for me.

Thank you guys so much for your encouragement. SOBER!

Limulus, that's great that your recovery is going well! Finding a church home is good too. I'm in the process of finding a new church home, so I need prayer as I research churches in my area and attend services to find one that God wants me to be at.

Thank you, and you are in my prayers also. I made it to another Celebrate Recovery group tonight. Was very very tempted to drink last night, due to an argument that I was having with someone, God still helped me to overcome that urge. One day at a time with God's help.

Been frustrated about relationships lately. Getting discouraged. I am planning on visiting a divorce help group at my church this week too. I've been divorced (not my choice) for about 10 years, I figure that I can help support others even if I just listen, I am sure they can be encouraging to me too.

Thank you for your prayers. I'm doing a Bible study in my Overcomers handbook about what to look for in a church. I also visited a Baptist church yesterday and heard a very good sermon about hating this world and living for Christ. I'm dealing with frustating family issues and have been feeling some anxiety lately, so I need prayer for that as well.

I'm praying that God will help you with your relationship problems and continuing recovery from alcohol.

Feeling extreme loneliness tonight. Going to watch some movies before I go to bed. I hate being single.

Even though I have been divorced for 10 years, I went to a divorce group at our church tonight. Got some fellowship time in, some prayer and learned some things. So it was a positive experience.

That's good. I've never been married, but from what I've observed in these boards and in my family's lives, I don't think I'll ever want to get married. Too much heartache.

Melissa, marriage is worth every bit of pain that comes with it. (I can't believe I just wrote that!) I've had a nightmare of a marriage but I'm glad I stuck it out (that's not to say anything negative about those who didn't or couldn't--it was a gift from God that I was able to). We'll be celebrating our 35th anniversary in December and while things are far from where they should be, God has been good and my life is richer because of marriage.

Limulus, I think a wound as big as divorce (regardless of which side initiated it) is something that still festers ten years later. There would be much healing needed. I'm glad you went. If you continue, this will also be a place of support that will help you in your determination to stay sober--if only because you're connecting with godly people on a weekly basis. You're making a lot of good decisions!

I have an appt. with my therapist today. I really, really don't want to go. I'm not sure why I don't want to go, I just don't. However, I will go anyway.

My therapist called me and had to cancel me going to her office. However, she did talk with me for about 15 minutes on the phone.
