ORIGINAL: DenimDiva I'm thankful to get it, but now I'm dealing with the feelings of guilt of dumping my other therapist. Roberta, Firstly, I feel I need to say to you that it's false guilt (taking responsibility for something that isn't your responsibility). Secondly, you were her client, not her buddy. Her goal was for you to get well, and, since changing therapists and seeing someone now when you need to see someone will help you achieve that goal, she will be pleased for you.

I just learned of a site where you can rate your doctor and find out how others have rated him/her. http://ratemds.com/social/?q=node/11

My family doctor and my psychiatrist got top ratings--which didn't surprise me. It was cool to read the comments. And Stovie, they have the UK on there too.

I couldn't find anyone that I'd seen, but then there only seemed to be a couple of hits for each entry so it doesn't suprise me they weren't there... They are brilliant (IMO) but I think they'd hate to be rated in such a way (at least some would) so I'm not adding 'em. Roberta, I agree with Manda. You shouldn't feel guilty about what you've done. Actually, I've just done something similar with someone involved in my health care. I'm waiting to hear what the outcome will be, but I'm confident that I've made the right decision for me. It's very hard to be selfish about our own care and needs, but sometimes we have to be. If it was your best friend or your twin sister who's therapist went off sick, what would you be telling her to do? When you see your new therapist, please be sure to tell her what you've done and why ~ not to badmouth your last therapist but so your new one understands better what is going on in your life.

My sister says that I said it loud enough to wake her up and authoritative enough to make two grown men want to get out so badly they left half their stuff behind. LOL! I love it! Good for you!

It must've been! I'd loved to have seen it! I was so out of it from not getting any sleep the night before that I don't remember it. I go see my pdoc tomorrow. Last time we discussed the possibility of hospitalization if the meds weren't working and they haven't been. Needless to say, I'm very worried about tomorrow's visit.

There's nothing wrong with discussing it ~ just make sure you explain why you don't want to do it. My psychiatrist has in the past mentioned it to me but after I explained why I didn't think it would be good for me, he accepted it. He didn't even mention it last year when I was really ill (though I knew he was thinking it). I do feel that hospital can have it's benefits for some though. As always, we must be assessed on our individual needs and health at any given time.

Roberta, have you ever kept a mood diary ~ don't mean something written, just something like at this site. I know that I've found it useful to monitor my mood when it's not been good because my mind doesn't work well and when I see my doctors it's much easier to look at something as it helps my recall. It may be worth you making a note of your TOM as well as that can affect mood and your doc will be able to take that into account. My mood diary was really useful for me when I was being assessed because it very quickly ruled out PMS!

That reminds me of a problem that I'm going to have to check into. I was supposed to have eight sessions with my therapist before reapplying for disability again. We only got five sessions in. I'm going to have to call them and find out what I should do.

I went to the site for the electronic journal. For some reason, I can't seem to understand the directions right now. Maybe I'll try again in a few hours or days.

aga- thanks for the link to the journal. I'm not sure if that style is for me, but I can see how it would be a great help to others. anyone- what is the difference between bipolar 1 and bipolar 2?

Officially, the difference is whether or not you've ever had mania as opposed to having only had hypomania. Sticking with officially, psychosis makes it mania not hypomania. BUT there's a lot of debate about whether there's a hypomanic version of mixed states and I've met (both IRL and online) some people whose pdocs diagnosed them as BP2 who've had psychosis...plus if psychosis is never present, the line is really fuzzy since it comes down to stuff like "severity" and "interference in the patient's abilty to function" (which means one pdoc might look at a patient in an episode and say it's mania and thus BP1 while another might say it's only hypomania and thus BP2). And just to make it REALLY confusing, it's not even supposed to count towards a bipolar diagnosis if the manic or hypomanic episode has any identifiable cause other than bipolar (per the DSM criteria)...including use of medications (and yes, antidepressant use counts for this too)...though quite a few pdocs ignore part or all of the "don't diagnose bipolar if there's another cause for the episode clause". So while it starts off clear, by the time you hit the end of the definition, it's about as clear as mud. So now that I've totally confused you, why'd you ask?
