Captain's ready room, three hours after the accident. Roc: There's no doubt, Captain. Someone fed a virus into the holodeck computer. That's why the bar broke. Shell: We were able to recreat the program, adding in a holographic Herrera running all the way through the program, with the program showing us the accident. It's amazing she didn't die. Nemo: It wasn't designed to kill her, just hurt her. Shell: How do you know that? Nemo: Looking straight at Shell The same way I know the sabatour is on board this ship. Kanani: Captain? Nemo: The first two acts of sabotogue occured before we knew we were dealing with the Romulans. And they happened before Nohemi or Jane, came on board this ship. The program Nohemi was running was her own personal exercise program. When you come on board a starship, you download your personal holodeck programs into the computer after you check in. Not before. She didn't down load that program until she came on board, which means the virus wasn't planted into the computer until after she arrived. Which means, it was directed at her, specifically. Shell: This person is good. Nemo: Good at what they are doing, not good by any moral stretch of the imagination. Kanani: Captain, what are you thinking? Nemo: This is directed at me. Shell: How can you say that? Nemo: The first attack targeted the ship, which is my responsibility, the second attack was directed at the crew, also my responsibility. Now, this attack was directed at someone personally close to me. Shell: Nohemi? Nemo: She's a personal project of mine, she and Jane. They've both served with me before. I've taken an interest in their careers, and I've pulled strings to help them get the experience they needed to become better officers. They are both bright, intelligent, talented officers. Each has the potiential to become a great officer and leader in Starfleet. Haveing them on this ship was one of the few consolations Starfleet gave me by not letting me hand pick my own crew. Shell: So you think the sabatour is hurting people you care about to get to you? Nemo: Yes. Nemo leans forward and begans to tap into his computer. Roc: How are we supposed to combate a personal grudge? Nemo: I'll tell you how. The three of you are going to conduct an investigation. Shell: We've been doing that for the last three weeks. Nemo: Not into the sabotogue. Kanani: Into what, then? Nemo: Me. I'm giving the three of you complete access to my service record. All personal logs, all ships logs, every note, every mention of me in starfleet records. Everything. Shell: What are we looking for? Nemo: People. Anyone who might have a reason to hate me. Anyone who might have a motive for wanting to hurt me. Roc: That could take weeks. Shell: We may not have weeks. Nemo: Roc, place your best people incharge of investigating the sabotogue. I'll have Brenda cooridinate with you in getting repairs done when the investigations are over. I want the three of you working on this around the clock. I'll relieve you of all other responsibilities. Kanani: Yes sir. Nemo: You will work out of conference room two, deck one. Roc, have it secured, no one goes in except the three of you. No one else is allowed in that room, including me. Roc: Yes sir. Nemo: Come and go as you need to, but this is top priority. Don't even communicate with me until you have found something. And make this as exaustive as you can. This is going to escalate, and someone is going to get killed if we don't stop it, soon. Have I made myself clear? Shell: Yes sir. Nemo: Get started. Shell and Roc exit the ready room. Kanani stays behind. Kanani: Adam? Nemo: I know, you have Troi haven't finished your exams. I'm sorry, but this has to take priority. Kanani: I know. Nemo: I'll have Troi go over everything the two of you have done up to this point. As soon as this is over, I'll let you get back to what you were doing. Kanani: I do have one question. Nemo: Yes. Kanani: What if I have another vision or spell, or whatever they are? Nemo: Alert sickbay, and have RAM and Troi give you a complete examination. But Kanani, if we don't find this person, you may not get a chance to finish your research. Kanani: You think they'll hurt the ship? Nemo: I think they will come after you, and the ship. Be careful. Kanani: Thank you, Adam. Kanani exits the ready room.

After his shift, Dr. Tyler decides to do more research into the Borg virus. He figure that a few hours of research would help the team during this busy time. The sabotauge investigations, Lt. Harrera's "accident" and Commander Choy's tests have delayed the research. Ah yes, Commander Choy's testing. He knows something about that night that could help her solve her visions. Extreme guilt comes over him. He tries to shake it off but knows that when God wants his attention, he will get it. He continues his study. A few minutes later, he cannot ignore anymore the guilt. Tyler: Lord, why? Why do I need to do this? Then a voice appears Voice: She has a path that has not been walked on because you have not revealed to her what I wanted you to reveal 6 years ago. Tyler: Yes, I know. But... Voice: I know what's in your heart Kevin. But why be afraid of that? Don't let your past dictate your future. I am going to tell you something that I never told you before. Tyler: What's that? Voice: Unlike the others, she will NEVER hurt you. You have had a problem trusting me with many things Kevin; but I ask you to trust me on this one. This is all I have to say to you right now. Trust. Trust me. RAM: Dr... Are you alright? Tyler: Yes Dr. RAM. I was just daydreaming that's all. RAM: Oh ok. Your shift is over. Working late today? Tyler: Yes, I thought I would try to catch up on the research of the Borg virus. RAM: Ah yes, that will resume soon. Tell me Dr., I heard a lot about this daydreaming thing. I find it facinating. I am unable to daydream but I heard that it's similar to dreaming at night, only you have more control over the dream. Is that correct? Tyler: Sometimes Dr. Sometimes.

Shell, Roc, and Kanani enter the conference room the Captain assigned to them. Two guards were posted just outside the door. Roc had set up a four hour rotation using the same set of security personel. Shell moved to the computer consoule and started downloading the files the Captain had made available. Kanani: How should we start this investigation? Shell: Start at the beginning of the Captains starfleet career and work forward. Roc: What are we looking for, exactly? Shell: Anyone who would be angry enough with the Captain to want to hurt him. Kanani: I can't believe anyone would want to hurt the Captain. Shell: Get over it, sweetie, every commanding officer has hurt people on the way up. He's no exception. Roc: Why should we assume it's the Captain they are after? Kanani: What do you mean? Roc: What if they are after someone else, and the captain is mis-interpreting the pattern. Shell: Who else could they be going after? Roc: You, for instance. You don't have many friends on this ship, and hardly anybody likes you. Shell: Look you overgrown, muscle brained... Kanani: Shell! We can't start off at each other's throats, we're going to be spending a lot of time together working, we're going to have to get along. Shell: I don't have to take orders from you. Kanani: No, but you are under orders to work with me. And I will see that those orders are carried out. Lt., we will follow the orders of the Captain. He wants us to investigate his past, and so we will. If we don't find anything, we'll present that to the Captain and he can decide what to do next. Shell: Fine. So, where do you suggest we start? Kanani: Starfleet Academy. Let's look at his time there and what he did, what assignments he had. Where did he go for his off world assignments and lessons. Any missions he went on. Everything. Roc: What do we do with the information? Shell: Organize it. List any one who was passed over, injured, killed. List relatives of those Nemo lost on away missions. Find out who would have a grudge against him. Then start investigating them. Kanani: How do we want to work the shifts? Shell: I say we get started together, then after a few hours, we start taking breaks. Kanani: Agreeded, Lt.? Ingersol: What ever you say, Ma'am. The three officers began to read through the Captains personal history. Making notes of anyone who was with him on any assignment, who his friends were, who made complaints against him. His classmates were listed, his teammates from his volleyball team. Everyone who knew Nemo, or knew of him was listed. And the list grew, it would only start shrinking, somewhat, when the team started looking at the people themselves.

Jess enters her quarters running with a newspaper in her hand. Jess: Julie! Julie! Did you see what the reporters are saying about dad? He fought off two Borg cubes and thirty Romulan Warbirds single handedly. Julie: You know that's not true. Jess: YEs, but it's nice to see it in print. Julie: Did they say that he lost over half a dozen crewmen? Jess: No. Julie: That's what he'll be upset about. Jess: How many ships was it, really? Julie: The official report said there were twenty four Romulan ships in the system. One of them was destroyed by the Borg Cube, two of them were surrendered by the Romulans, one was sevearly damaged by Dad, and the rest were released by StarFleet. Jess: Has Dad written since then? Julie: Yes, they've left starbase 183 and are headed for Starbase 214. He also said he got a couple of new toys. Jess: What?! Julie: Two Romulan shuttles and two scout ships. Jess: He never gets any good stuff. Julie: According to you.

Nemo walked into sickbay and went straight to the bed of Nohemi Herrera. He stood over with a pained look on his face. Nohemi opened her eyes to see her captain standing beside her. Nohemi: Lt. Commander Herrera reporting for duty sir. Nemo: Get your lazy bottem out of that bed and get to work, commander. Nohemi: Yes, sir. Nemo: RAM said you should be back on your feet tomorrom and back on duty in four or five days. Nohemi: I hope so, I hate sick bay. Nemo: I understand. I've spent far too much of my career in one sick bay or another. Nohemi: Captain. Nemo: Yes. Nohemi: It's not your fault. Nemo: What? Nohemi: I know how personally you take things. It's one of the reasons I've always liked serving with you. But the accident wasn't your fault. Nemo: It's more my fault than you think. Nohemi: Sir? Nemo: Your program was tampered with. The bar was programed to break when it did. To harm you, but not kill you. Nohemi: How do you... Nemo: We've investigated the accident. There is a sabotour on board, and I think he's after me. He's attacked the ship, my crew, and now, personal friends of mine. Nohemi, I can't protect you. You're going to have to be careful. Watch your back. Nohemi: Captain, you can't be sure. Nemo: I'm going to gut intuition. It's always served me well in the past. Be careful. Nemo walked delibertly out of sickbay

After a few hours of examining the Captain's records, the team takes a break and the next set of security officers guard the room. Shell finishes her general shift on the bridge, Lt. Roc takes a 2 hour break, and Commander Choy decides to get the Borg research team together again. Between the three of them, they will take turns with breaks. One will take a break while the other 2 will either lead into their normal shift duties or other special projects. Sickbay conference room. Choy, Dr. RAM, and Lt. LI are gathered and Dr. Tyler arrives to join them. Tyler: Sorry I'm late everyone. Kanani: Well, our research of the Borg virus has been delayed and I will be only able to resume every other shift; but at least we can move forward in some way. Dr. RAM, what was our lastest findings? RAM: We had determined that the virus is truly a virus, but understanding how the virus was formed is still a mystery to us. Initially we had concluded that it was a result of a mutation from other viruses, including human, Romulan and Klingon viruses. But the question is how? Li: And once we understand the how, we can examine if the virus was mutated and created for a specific purpose. Kanani: Dr. Tyler, I understand that you spent some of your free time doing more research. Has anything new emerged? Tyler: Unfortunately not much... I was distracted with something else and did not discover much. RAM: I believe Dr. Tyler was daydreaming. Kanani: Raises eyebrows. It's apparent that RAM (the female android) doesn't understand much about daydreaming We all do Dr. Well, humans at least. It's usually because a person is thinking about hypothetical situations. Other times it's for problem solving... Looks at Dr. Tyler And then at other times, it could be about trying to decide between choices, choices that could be crucial to the person's life. Tyler picks up Choy's comment and looks at her. Dr. RAM and Lt. Li, with their limited ability to pick up certain things don't take notice. Tyler: Or it can have no meaning at all. Kanani continues to look at Kevin and then turns to look at Dr. RAM RAM: Interesting. I never knew daydreaming could be so complicated. Lt. Li finally picks up on the mild tension in the room and tries to change the subject. Li: Commander, I have an idea. I used to be former Borg. I have come a long way in regaining my humaness and technology has allowed me to control much of my old Borg behavior. I have no memory of this so-called virus but there is a way that I could regain some of that memory. Kanani: Yes Lt. I do know about that. However, we never brought up that option because of the high risks. We couldn't ask you to risk yourself personally for this research project. Li: I understand that Commander. But at this point it would save us much time and be of an asset to this ship and to the entire Federation. Lives could be saved Commander. I am fully aware of the risks and would like to personally request that this process take place. Kanani: That is noble of you. But to do that we would need to talk to the Captain and you would need his approval. If this is what you want Lt., then we will schedule our next meetng with the Captain. For me personally I understand what it means to offer yourself and I highly respect you for that Lt. Li: Thank you Commander. It is what I want to do and I hope the Captain approves. Kanani: Well then, we will reconvene and I will inform all of you of the time. RAM: Thank you Commander. Tyler: Thank you Commander. Choy leaves sickbay almost immediately after the meeting is over, leaving the rest of them in the conference room. Kanani heads for her quaters.

"ABSOLUTELY NOT!!" Nemo sat straight up in his chair behind his desk. Nemo: Have you lost what's left of your human common sense, Li? Li: It is the only logical way to find the purpose of the virus. Nemo: Virus's don't have purpose's, they simply exist. Looking at Kanani And you. What are you doing encouraging her to do something so dangerous? Kanani: Visibaly shaken and taken back by the sudden angry outburst of her friend and Captain Captain, I assure you, this was her idea. She wants to do this. Nemo: And I thought I had given you another assignment. Kanani: I was taking a break, and thouht I would get some work done on the virus. Nemo: What part of Top Priority did you not understand? Take a break to rest, not work on other projects. Where are Shell and Ingersol? Kanani: Shell is on duty and Ingersol is working alone on the investigation. Nemo: I want the three of you devoting every bit of energy you have to this investigation, and nothing else. Unless we come under attack and I need the three of you at your stations, I want you only eating, sleeping, and drinking this investigation. Have I made myself clear? Kanani: Yes, sir. Li: Captain. If I may. Nemo: Lt. I already said no. Li: Captain, you are not condisering all the probable potiential good that could come from it. Nemo: And you are not considering everything that could go wrong. You are wanting to hook yourself up to a Borg resting station, which we just so happen to have for you, and let yourself be injected with this virus, just to study the effects. Li: Yes. Nemo: What if this virus awakens some of your dormant Borg programing? Li: That is a risk. Nemo: A risk that endangers the ship. Li: I can be put into stasis. Nemo: No guarntee that you will stay there, or that we can bring you back again. Li: That risk is minimal. Nemo: The risk is there. Li: And as a starfleet officer, I have the choice, the free will, to make the decision as to whether or not I wish to take that risk. Nemo: And as your Captain, I have the responsibility to keep you from making foolish mistakes and endangering your life and the safety of the crew of this ship. Now, Lt, thank you for your committment and dedication to this project, but for now, it is on hold, and I want you back to your duty station. Li: Very well, Captain. Li exited the Captain's ready room Nemo: As for you, Commander, I want you, Ingersol and Shell back to work on this investigation, now. Kanani: Adam, what's wrong? You've never blown up with anymember of your crew like that before. Nemo: Of all people, I would have expected you to understand the importance of this investigation. Kanani: I do, but there is no sense in driving three crewmen crazy staring at log entries and reports 24-7. Nemo: And if you don't, the sabatour has that much more time to plan and carry out the next attack, and this time, they may be successful in killing someone. Kanani: Pausing for a moment This person has you scared. Nemo: Very. I don't know who it is, why they are doing this, or what their next target will be. And If I don't know any of that, I can't protect this ship or my crew. Kanani: I understand. I'll get Shell and we'll get started back to work. Kanani turns and heads to the door Nemo: Kanani, I'm sorry. Kanani: No need to be Adam. You've always been a man of passion. And that carries over to the way you view your crew and the way you protect them. I'm sorry I forgot that. Nemo: Still, there was no excuse for yelling like that. Kanani: What about LI? Nemo: I'll appologize to her also. Kanani: I mean about the virus experiment. Nemo: No. I still think it's too risky. Kanani: If another way... Nemo: Kanani, you have an assignment. Let RAM, Tyler, and Li handle the virus. Please. Kanani: Okay.

Jess: Did you tell dad you were taking the Kobiashi-Maru test? Julie: No. I'm not taking it for another four weeks. Jess: Are you going to tell him? Julie: You know all he'll do is keep sending me advice. I don't need any more reason to be nervous. Jess: Suit yourself, but his experience may help you. Julie: Getting up and packing her stuff. Possibly, but I want to use my own experience to get my grade. Walking to the door See you later. Julie walked across campus to the simulator building, or Sim Bud as the students had taken to call it. Her appointment was in just a few minutes and she didn't want to be late. Arriving at her destination, she dropped her pack and took out her personal PADD. Downloading the program into the simulator, she picked up her bag and entered. Julie took her seat in the command chair. She knew the Kobiashi-Maru was designed for the cadets to fail. But she was hoping to find a solution from other past tests. Her program began to run, and the holographic figures each appeared at their stations. The situation was familiar, a ship in distress, and a trip into forbidden space to rescue it. Her orders were clear and confident. As expected, and enemy ship appeard, negotiations were not possible. The enemy ship fired, Julie took evasive actions, raised her shields, but did not fire in return. She attempted a warp run to pass the distressed ship and catch it in a trailing tractor beam. The enemy ship fired again, hitting her ship. She called for warp, the ship lurched, another shot. This time the helm consoul erupted in flame. Then another explosion, then another. Something was wrong. Smoked filled the simulator. There was pounding on the door. Another explosion. Debris started flying across the simulator. Julie dove for the floor, coughing and choaking. Something hot and heavy fell on top of her. Then another explosion and more smoke. Slowly, Julie lost consciousness.

Lt. Li entered sick bay where RAM and Tyler were waiting for her. RAM: Did the Captain give his okay? Li: No. He seemed to think the experiment was far too risky. RAM: I would have to agree with him on that point. There seems to be no need to take such a risk. Li: But the possible benifits from the data we collect... RAM: Can be collected in a simple sample of your blood. We take a sample, introduce the virus and observe what happens. No harm to you, no risk to you, but the same results. Li: Are you certain a simple sample will work. RAM: Dr. Tyler and I have both run simulations and see no reason why it should not. If you are willing. Li: Since you are convinced it will work, I see no reason not to pursue this course of action. RAM: Dr. Tyler, if you will draw the blood, I will set up the culture chamber. Dr. Tyler drew a small sample of Li's blood from her shoulder and gave it to RAM. A small sample of the virus was mixed with the blood and placed in the culture chamber. All three stood by and watched as Li's blood intermixed and interacted with the virus. Tyler: Fascinating. RAM: Indeed. The Borg nanities are attacking the virus and destroying it. Tyler: Of course. How stupid of me. The nanities act as white blood cells, seeking out and destroying any viruses and diseases. The nanities have been adapted from all species just like the virus. Therefore, it can recognize the virus, the complexity of the virus and still attack and kill it. Thus, preventing the Borg from catching a cold. RAM: Therefore, the adaptation of an anti-virus will have to be based on the borg nanite. We should get busy with the replication and experimentation process. Lt., I believe your assistance will be necessary. Will Commander Choy be joining us? Li: I don't believe so. Tyler: Why not? Li: It appears that the Captain has she and a few others working on a special investigation. He seemed quite upset that she was spending time working with us on the virus and not on his project. Tyler: I'm sure he was. Li: Excuse me, Dr.? Tyler: Nothing. Li: If you don't mind my asking, there seemed to be a bit of tension between you and the commander earlier. Tyler: She's under the misguided impression that I can help her with a personal problem. Li: And the comment you just made about the captain? Tyler: LEt's just say that I sometimes find it ironic what he places as priorities and why. Li: Could you explain further? Tyler: I would prefer not to. I believe that Dr. RAM is waiting for us.

Before Kanani resumes the Captain's special project, she heads over down to sickbay to explain the situation the the research team. Door to sickbay opnes. RAM, Kevin and Li looks who it is. Kanani: Lt, I am sure you announced the result of our meeting with the Captain? Li: Yes Commander I just told them. We have just tested the virus on my blood. Tyler: It would appear Commander that the Lt. is immune to the virus. This helps us greatly and we are able to work with this. Kanani: That's good news. Well, I am here to tell all of you that you will have to proceed with the research without me, at least for a little while. RAM: Yes Commander we heard. There is a special project that you need to work on for the Captain? Kanani: Yes. So carry on without me... Dr. Tyler may I speak to you privately? They head for Kevin's office. He closes the door. Kanani: I just wanted to apologize for the comment I made in our earlier meeting. That was uncalled for. Kevin: It's alright. Kanani: The other thing, regarding the research... Kanani pauses... Good luck on it. That's all. Thank you. Kanani turns to the door Kevin: Kanani. Kanani stops, her back facing Kevin. I know what this research project means to you and what it would it would mean to your mother. So I will do my best in finding some answers. Alright? Kanani turns around Kanani: I would appreciate that greatly. The Captain's special project is crucial to the safety of this ship and I... I guess that my passion to find out more about this virus clouded my judgement. Kevin: Did you tell the Captain that? Kanani: No, he has enough worries as it is and I don't need to to lay any of this on him right now. Kevin: I see. I understand that. Kanani: Look, watch your back and be careful. People are getting hurt and I don't want to see that happen to you or anyone else on this ship. Kanani turns again Kevin: One more question. Kanani just turns her head to the side this time Have you had another vision? Kanani: Shakes her head No. I haven't. Kanani leaves Kevin's office and heads out. As she walks back to meet again with Shell and Roc, she realizes how grateful she is to Dr. Tyler's sensitivity towards this project. She is beginning to wonder just how much he cares about her. For a spilt second she thinks about what a great dancer he is and contemplates what it would be like to dance with him again.

One day later. Nemo sat in the command chair on the DEBIT CARD. Shell, Kanani, and Roc were all in the conference room working dillegently on the investigation. Nemo had refused to check up on them. They needed to be free of any pressure, any more pressure, to do their work. Markov had returned to his communications station after a shift in the shuttle bay working on the Delta Flyer. It was Markov who first saw the priority message. Grayfoot: Captain, Prriority message from Starfleet command. Admiral Laired. Nemo: On screen. Grayfoot: It's private, sirrr. Yourrr' eyes only. Nemo: In my ready room, Lt. Nemo left the bridge and entered his ready room, sitting behind his desk and turning on his computer. The image of Admiral Laired appeared. Nemo: Admiral, what can I do for you? Laired: Adam, I'm not sure how to tell you this, so I'm going to come right out a say it. There was an accident in the Kobiashi-Maru simulator. Julie was injured. Nemo: sitting still and staring at the screen How bad is it? Laired: The med team got to her quickly, that probably saved her life. Nemo: How bad is it? Laired: She's unconscious still. She lost a lot of blood, she has seveare burns to her back, and her legs. She's at Starfleet medical. Her prognosis is good, the doctors believe she will survive. Nemo: What was she doing in the simulator? Laired: Her test is in a month, she was running a simulation. Didn't you know she was taking the Simulation? Nemo: I knew she was a senior and in the command track, so yes, I knew she was going to have to take the test, she just never told me when. How did the accident happen? Laired: That's what I wanted to talk to you about. How is your investigation going? Nemo: There isn't much to report. I have three of my command officers conducting an independent investigations. Laired: Have they uncovered anything? Nemo: No. Admiral, what are you getting at? Laired: We were able to secure her supplies from the fire. We examined the program and her personal PADD. It was a virus that caused the computer program to malfunction. Nemo: A virus? Laired: Yes. We traced the virus to several letters she had downloaded. Letters you wrote to her. Within the past three weeks. Nemo: You're saying the virus came from the DEBIT CARD? Laired: It would appear so. However, this virus was designed specifically to affect the Kobiashi-Maru simulation. Nemo: Letting the implications sink in. Have you checked Jess' PADD'S? Laired: Yes. Her piloting test is coming up. There was a virus in her PADD'S that contained a virus to cause the shuttle to malfunction, as well as any simulations she might have run. Nemo: Where is she? Laired: She's with her sister at Starfleet Medical. We didn't allow them to contact you until we completed our preliminary investigation. We have them both under protective guard. Adam, what's going on out there? Nemo: We've had three acts of sabotogue. And it now appears that the person responsible has the ability to tap into my personal communications and send virus' to my daughters. Laired: Adam, do you need some assistance? Nemo: No, I just need time to find this piece of trash. When will I be able to contact my daughters? Laired: I'm not letting you contact anybody until you have cleared your computer systems. This message is being filtered as we speak. Nemo: Admiral, when did the accident happen? Laired: A little over a day ago. Adam, I promise you, I'll keep you updated on Julie's condition. Nemo: Could you do me one more favor? Laired: I"ll try. Nemo: Send the fingerprint of that virus back to me. I want to compare it to another virus that was found in a holodeck program here. Laired: When we can send it safely, I'll do that. Nemo: Thank you. Laired: Laired out. The screen went blank and Nemo sat quietly in his office for what seemed like an hour. Finally, he tapped his Com badge. Nemo: Kanani, Roc, Shell, report to my ready room. Several minutes passed before a chime was heard. Nemo: Enter. The three officers entered and stood before Nemo's desk. Nemo: This Pitak has now attacked my family. Kanani: Captain? Nemo: I talked to Starfleet command about an hour ago. My daughter was in an accident in the Kobiashi-Maru simulator. The malfunction came from a virus she downloaded from one of my letters. It was designed to make the simulator malfunction. This piece of trash knows my family and what they are doing. I want them found, and I want their head mounted on my wall. Do you understand? Shell: We'll find them sir. Nemo: Make sure you do. Starfleet will be sending the fingerprint of the virus for us to compare with the virus from Nohemi's accident. As soon as it arrives, I'll send it down to you. Dismissed. Roc and Shell exit, Kanani stays behind. Kanani: Adam, are you alright? Nemo: No. This person has turned this entirely personal, and I'm angry. Kanani: I know how you feel about counselors, but perhaps you should speak to Troi. Nemo: Thank you, commander. You need to return to your investigation. Kanani: Yes, sir.

Sitting at his console, Markov watches and listens to the various transmissions and chatter going on over the comm systems. Whether or not it liked it, he was back at his post. Far from familiar. Far from the intelligence analyst computer that he used so many years ago. Far from the various simulators that he had flown over the years. Far, far, far different from the rural part of America that he was so blessed to have grown up in. So blessed.... How hard that idea was for him to accept at times. Being half Felonian and have human, he was shunned by all by the closest of relatives on his mother's side. She was the Felonian half. But, of all the species that sometimes mixed with humans, Felonians was probably the least likely too. Mainly because of their proud heritige. Partly because of the fact that though most Felonians respected humans, they didn't think them "worthy" to breed with. Scanning his various instruments, Markov continues to contemlate his life. Coming from a long line of humans who proudly served in the US military, and then in the Federation, he was practically garuinteed acceptance into any branch. Such a heritage... Since Felonians were much stronger and had such a higher endurance and keener senses than most humans. Hence, one of the reasons why Felonians tend to not want to "mix" with humans. But, his family was a bit different. A flashing light caught Markov's attention. Calling up the appropriate screen, Captain, Prriority message from Starfleet command. Admiral Laired. Nemo: On screen. Grayfoot: It's private, sirrr. Yourrr' eyes only. Nemo: In my ready room, Lt. Markov taps the appropriate buttons to transfer the incoming transmission to the Captain's ready room. Then, going back to his thoughts... Almost a rare breed, the human side of his family was. By nature, they love adventure and contemplation of ideas, philosophy, even theology. Many of his ancestors sucessfully served in either law enforcement or the military. It was natural for them. Just as natural as teaching in a church, too. Boy.... His great, great grandfather was a real unique person. An Airborne paratrooper, he was very willing, if he had to, to go way behind enemy lines to fight the enemy. Die, if necessary. Although he never had kids of his own, he raised his sister's kids. He helped them to learn how to harness their passion for adventure and challenge, as well as, learn how to learn all that they can. Their passion for life, for helping others, for serving God, became almost a mantra for his family. This heritage and passion for life and service is what enabled his father to be able to save his mother's life so long ago, and why instead of having a "life debt" kind of thing for him. Over time, their relationship grew from just mutual respect to of love. Then, after they had had been married for several years, he came along. Growing up had been hard at times. His family's heritage were big shoes to fill. So many, who stayed in one service or another, were very highly decorated. Many had at least two degrees. Several had many. Such big shoes to fill.... But, sucessfully fill them, so far, it seems that Markov has been able to do so.... Though, at a high price... You have been bought for a price.... A very high price..... Came that quiet but very, very firm voice to him again. Somewhat startled, Markov returns his gaze to his consol. He then realizes that the incoming, eyes only transmission had ended over 8 minutes ago, and the Captain was still in his ready room. To himself: God, I sure hope that everything is alright with him. He seems to be a very good at his job, and seems to genuinly care about his crew. Does he have a family of his own? Returning his gaze to his consol, he continues to monitor his consol and the various chatter. As he does so, a thought comes to his mind... A fellow officer what seriously injured not long ago... Freak accident..... Was it a real bug in the system.... Growling softly to himself, Markov checked the computer for the last time it had been checked for maliscious or problematic systems. Odd...... Why was the self-diaognostic turned off?? Turned off?!?! Tapping his badge quickly.... Lt. Greyfoot to Captian Nemo... Brief pause... Lt. Greyfoot to Captian Nemo.... A very controled Captian Nemo's voice comes back:Lt. I am very, very busy right now. Can it wait? Markov: Sir, I just found something that... Nemo: What did you find? Markov: Sir, this is something you will want to see for yourself. No answer... Over two minutes later, the Captians ready room door opens and an obviously upset Captain walks directly over to Makov's stations. In a very stern voice, Nemo: Lt. Greyfoot, this had better be important. I have some some seriously important things that I need to work on... If there was one thing his family had a "natural ability" to do, it was the willingness to go out on the limb with a superior when they felt the need to do so. Now, was definitely the time. Firmly: Sir, this is the stardate that I was in the shuttle that had the mines in it. A very irritated and curt: Yes, Leutienent.. Your point... Nodding while pointing at the computer console, I recalled hearing about a fellow officer getting injured and something about a computer problem. I took a look at the last time that the computer had done a self-diagnostic to see when it had last... For once, Markov saw the Captain's face grow slighly pale. That was also when he noticed that Commander Kanani was also standing near-by. Her face also grew pale, but more so. For, on the screen, the time of the computer's self-diagnostic programing had been turned off just moments before the accident, at least 15 minutes after he had left his station. But, it was not clear how it had been turned off. That part was erased.....
