Wow, so sorry. I think it just hit me so odd because I've never had so many die in such a close time frame and some didn't know that Lord.[:o] I felt so desperate for them. I that what mourning is all about?

JimboFletch -> RE: Where are all the 40+ church workers and theologians (5/30/2008 5:51:46 PM)

One of the sadest funerals I went to was for a cousin, about 23, who died from a misdiagnosed cancer and left a wife and two small children. Also sad was the fact that it was the first time I had ever seen him, in the casket.

The shock of Harvey Korman's death was not the unexpected loss of a great comedian so much as the fact that he was 81!

I mean, just a few days ago he was my current age.

That surprised me too. He seemed to be perpetually late 40s/early 50s.

All the greats are dying. I hate death!

Today, June 6, 2008, is the 64th anniversary of The Invasion of Normandy (D-Day).

Anyone observing the day in any special way - like celebrating that you're too young to remember it?

A few days ago my kids and I were looking at some articles and tapes I saved from the anniversary that Reagan spoke. Great stuff. One tape showed all the old men who were there, and it was sweet.

Frankly, after seeing Saving Private Ryan, I could never look at old men the same way again.

My husband's grandpa used to re-live the war in stories to him when he was little boy. He came back from the war with what we would call PTSD today, but back then they called it shell-shocked. His botard of a doctor said he was schizophrenic. His family would have little to do with him.

My husband loved him dearly and to this day, expressed that love whenever we talk about him.

JimboFletch -> RE: Where are all the 40+ church workers and theologians (6/6/2008 11:40:18 AM)

My dad, a young sailor, was part of a landing craft crew that ran equipment to the beach on D-Day. He didn't talk much about it until his later years.

While he was in the hospital at age 72 with an illness that eventually led to a major stroke and his death 6 years later, he told me, "I really believed that I would die in the war. So I consider all of my life after it to be gravy, an unexpected gift."

That gave me a lot to ponder.

It woud cost me a good $60-70 to get the donut and come back. Are they really that good? [:D]

JimboFletch -> RE: Where are all the 40+ church workers and theologians (6/6/2008 5:40:44 PM)

I feel for you, Lisa. I have to go right past Krispy Kreme every morning on the way to work and every evening on the way home.

bzirk -> RE: Where are all the 40+ church workers and theologians (6/6/2008 7:03:39 PM)

Oh, don't feel sorry for me. I only crave a donut about once every 10 years. Now if we're talking Mexican food, that's another story. I cannot get that around here like I can back in Texas. I do miss that, but not enough to go back. LOL!

JimboFletch -> RE: Where are all the 40+ church workers and theologians (6/9/2008 7:39:44 AM)

I'm by Mexican food the way you are about donuts. About once every ten years I decide to have Mexican - then immediately regret it and wonder what in the world was I thinking, as I down a bottle of Maalox.
