Those are some breath taking photos of birds. Glad some folk are up tothe challenge.

Went browsing in the computer store. I like my Kodak easy share BUT the price is about a couple hundred less and the mega pix have doubled. Oh well, I still have alot of fun with the one I have.

Wow ezri - you did have a busy day. Let us know when you find out how you did on your test, okay?

I'll look at that online tutorial tomorrow and will bookmark it for future reference. You would have had a fit today at Woofstock - the picture they gave me of my little one is fuzzy, not centered and way dark... oh well, it was only $5 and a donation to our local humane society.

If the weather will cooperate with me tomorrow, I want to take some pics of my little one - we bobbed her hair tonight, and I think it came out really cute. This was her first major haircut, other than to have it trimmed - I think we cut off about 5" all around. The new 'do is photo worthy - wish me luck!

The test-

If I missed anything it will be in one of the two sections where you had to put the letter of the answer in the blank. I am dyslexic and sometimes double/triple checking doesn't even help. Thing is that the prof knows that I know the stuff and that I have the issue so even if I messed it up I am sure she will pull me aside and do the sections orally on Monday. The dyslexia is the major part of my test taking anxiety.

__ Stops the action of the developer ..........................A. Washer

__ Activates the Silver-Halide Crystals ......................B. Perma Wash

__ Fixes the chemistry ..............................................C. Developer

__shortens the wash time ......................................... D. Fixer

__rinses the chemistry off the paper .......................... E. Stop Bath

I KNOW that E. Stop Bath goes on the first line but sometimes my brain shorts out and the E will end up on the second line. Like the lines move down a space, or the sentence moves. it is hard to explain. I know Words are black and white and sit flat on the paper BUT sometimes they look like they are dimensional, floating almost. My Brain works in 3-d in a 2-d world. It can be frustrating sometimes and other times it is a blessing because it has a great deal to do with my creativity.

I too am very dyslexic. In my line of work, that can be detrimental (electronics). Numbers are something that are dealt with a lot. While the 3D issue isn't something that is familiar to me, I can empathize with the disorder.

With me, the letters don't come out of the keypad in the same sequence they do in my brain. For example, typing 'empathize'...I've typed 'ep' while 'm' is certainly in my mind as the next letter. That's just an example. The same thing happens in cursive or printing. I spend far more time fixing mistakes than the actual typing.

It can also be irritating that my reading speed is so incredibly slow. Someone loaned me a book that I'll know I'll never read. In school, a reading assignment was like a death sentence. I learned how to get by without doing it.

In typing class, I barely passed with 30WPM. Partly because of a broken arm. Partly because typing speed is limited by reading speed.

sounds like you'd be a good candidate for those voice programs. I haven't looked into them lately. Quite awhile ago they were getting "good" (not great).

The school I teach at is having a cultural arts week. And I forgot to bring my camera! I had one of my sons drive it out to me (many thanks young man) because my other son was doing a karate demo with his gal pal. They did great. I didn't have my stronger flash so I didn't get as much data in my photos as I would have liked. My camera is old enough to have a 5 mega pix limit. This time I wished I had the 10. Oh well, we still had fun and the photos are on Flickr and good enough for the web.

Final came back yesterday- Got 100% the abc stuff did not get me!

We had group critique and then prof went around after and told each individually which were her faves and why and sent them down to the end of semester art show. She passed me by though- I was worried for a bit. I knew that I was not happy with the one. it met specs but it did not "pop" for me. another I really like but I think she can use more diffusion. ANYWAY- she came back after the others took their 2-3 photos down and she told me to put um all in my bag and carry them to "T" in the gallery. All 6. My head spun for a few minutes.

She told me I was too hard on myself as I quickly swapped the glass in one frame to another frame- I realized during critique that the glass was scratched on one photo and it showed- BUT knew that if it was on a busier print the scratch would be less noticeable.

It was neat to see the other kids photos. I saw a good number of them in the dark room but seeing how they were displayed and presented was fun. Seeing a couple of the kids actually have their work framed and all- kids that during the first 4 weeks of class you were seriously worried they were in the wrong place- they blossomed in the darkroom. hehehehe! They bloomed under the safe-light folks. 1 fella, and 2 young ladies. The one gal actually sat way off when the prof was explaining to me how to spot tone... after the prof left me to my work she came over and sat next to me and asked if she could give it a go on one of her prints that had a big spot on it. I handed her the brush and we sat there for 30 minutes working together. She did an awesome job on it. Folks walked by and saw her working on it and stopped and commented how cool the photo was (D&D dice reflected on glass- she did it with a 50mm prim lens all the way open(f2) and at 1/30th second shutter speed. Sat the camera on the table and carefully pressed the shutter button-) . Watching her light up was awesome. She turned the print in. It was the prof's fave of her shots.

The young man that blossomed- the prof would have to tell him to wake up about every other lecture class. Serious worries there folks. In the end he walked past another student that was waiting to get the profs opinion of a print he'd done and the fella said- reshoot it with a 3 1/5 filter--- double your time. The guy laughed at him and said yeah! gotcha! then a few minutes later came out of the profs office and said "HEY "M"! You were dead on man!"

The other young lady was so quiet! she sat in the back next to the fella above that the prof had to keep waking up. If someone had asked one of the other kids is Casey was in our class, I would say that 75% of them would ask who "C" was. But she was there quietly in the back ground. She did not really come into the darkroom for the longest time. When she did she had so much trouble. She didn't ask anyone anything she kept plugging away at it. I could tell she wasn't comfy- ya know. The one day she stayed late with me and I dared to ask what she was printing. it was a really close shot and it was coming out so light you couldn't see it. She told me it was beads- but then said she thought her paper was messed up because no matter what she did it came out "that " way.

I dropped a sheet of my paper under the light and hit the timer and dropped it into the developer. The time she had it set to was so high already she was sure it had to be the paper. turns out it was the image. it was a very dark image and it needed a VERY long exposure. Once the other kids filtered out she stayed on and kept going- She must have used 20 sheets of paper to make this print work. By the time she got it just right- she had the darkroom in her pocket. Watching as the image she wanted came up in the developer was awesome. Watching her light up seeing that she had DONE IT HERSELF was priceless. (yeah, I almost cried) She stood there all blushed out- I mean 100% red as we told what we liked about her shots. She did some absolutely drop dead portraits of a friend. I mean WHOA! WOW! Awesome! The prof told her- "You have the eye dear- keep at it!" I thought she'd need a chair to sit in and a hanky to wipe her eyes...

The Art Show is wed/thurs we pick up our stuff on Friday.

Tripod question...

Have been thinking of getting one, but I don't want to pay the earth...

I saw this and wondered if it'd be any good for a first one? (Well second, but the first has long gone). Right now, I really want something light (which this is) and not megabucks. I know heavier tripods are more stable, but I wasn't thinking of using it in high winds or anything ~ more in subdued lighting.

Saw those in the store but never tried one. I find that for me, getting the camera on and off without a hassle is important.

BTW, we have some nifty stuff on flickr. http://www.flickr.com/groups/738069@N21/

Thanks... it's more of a hike than I'd care to make to get to a store that sells tripods, so whatever it is, I'll probably end up buying online.

I dunno about the tripod either Agape- by looking at it It appears to be for a smaller camera. I could probably use it with Jerry's point -n- shoot but I don't think I'd trust it to hold my 35mm or my dSLR. All are a bit heavy. What kida camera do you have???

Oh, and while I am at it. I just wanna say

I AM SO JEALOUS!

that tripod is very short. would be very useful but make sure it serves your purpose. it comes in various sizes as in, for point and shoot, slr and slr with huge lenses.

I am uploading photos from the art show as I type.

I wanted to share one of Casey's with you. She was the gal that had so much problems with the one shot.

THIS SHOT was one she did the day after the day I wrote about up top. LOL! she is the person that labeled my bit of packing tape the "Diffusy Thingy" She used the "Diffusy Thingy" on this particular shot. Drop dead gorgeous huh...

and another funny thing- I named a macro shot of Triss's Lips "Butterfly" -I had another shot that one of the prof's called "Delicious" so I named it thus... I got there today and these two photos were on the same wall with the tags reversed.

hehehehehe! Triss's Lips are now called "Delicious" She turned 4 shades of red when she saw it. She is standing there like CHANGE IT! as some folks come in behind us and say "WOW! that is an awesome shot. Cool name too!" Triss took off before I could introduce the folks to the owner of the delicious lips. (I am sitting here giggling to myself) see the Lips HERE

Tell Triss that I'm so sorry, but I'm giggling too...

But hey, no one would have known they were her lips if she hadn't changed colour

Regarding the tripod ~ I only have a compact digital. I don't know how much it weighs, but it's not much!

It's 150cm ~ that's roughly 5' ~ how tall do you need them to go?

That was Persuasion (Jane Austen). I was so tired that day and I'd loved to have hung around and taken more images, but it was getting late (for me to get home). I do regret not taking more though ~ I still sometimes have the wrong brain in when it comes to taking photos ~ like 'I can't waste the film'!.

I want to try and keep my eye open for other things like that though and see if I can't get something (the area is Austen country, but Harry Potter has also been filmed a few miles away too).

Okay, thats a tall one to look so small. A compact digital might be okay on it. In the end you are the one lugging it around. I have a big heavy one I was given. i use it at home and on photo shoots where i KNOW that the camera will be set up right there and not be moved. I also have a el' cheap'o one I bought to carry to the sculpture garden. (20.00) that is REALLY light and has a carry bag with it. I would NEVER use it in high winds or in heavy traffic areas AT ALL. I had the girls with me when I used it last and they kinda stood back and made sure folks knew I was snapping and directing them around at the sculpture garden.

I got the rest of the art show shots up. Least all I had on digital, I made my Photo 1 prof happy and took a roll of film as well- though it is color film and not black and white. She still smiled when I pulled out the film camera. It'll be a week before those are up. but if you wanna see the set it is here I have a shot of Casey's, Sarah's and mason's up (the kids I mentioned before) so you can see them too.

Ahhhh her link stated:
quote:

H150 x W30 x D30cm

As you came to on the website it is wrongly labled.
the original is

quote:

Intended for: Compact digital cameras
Max weight load: 275g (9.7oz)
Adapter: Universal ¼-in tripod screw
Size: 15 x 3 x 3cm (5.9 x 1.2 x 1.2")
Weight: 45.3g (1.6oz)
Habitat: Anywhere!

Methinks John Lewis is a bit messed up on this one.

baring in mind that we only have so much disposable cash for hobbies, I would agree with one point in the article.. buy the best most stable tripod you can afford. Anything cheap will end up leaning against your wall instead of going with you.

I haven't brought my tripod for my latest work because I am moving around so much.
