I can't believe there are no threads on photography, so here I am starting one. I am an avid photobug....far from professional, though I have shot several weddings for friends and family, and a few portraits.

Aside from my children, I like to take pictures of anything that catches my eye - just recently got some super shots of the springtime wildflowers here in TX. I take a lot of scenic/nature type photos.

Anyone else out there camera crazy?

Girlfriend!!! First of all... I CANNOT believe that you are awake!!! LOL

Please post those wildflowers, you know I miss them. It was nice talking about the road to Castroville and flowers and pics last night.

i have a digital camera.. but I like to take pictures of nature/scenic stuff too.

I play around with Photoshop elements but haven't really mastered it yet.

Okay, lets see if I can post a link and make it work. Here is a link to an album with my wildflower pics.

I don't have photoshop. I do most of my digital editing in Paint Shop Pro 7. I know there are lots of other things I could do in PSP, but I need to learn. It has an excellent red-eye removal tool (you can even fix animals eyes).

I still do some 35mm photography, but not as much. Digital is cheaper in the long run and I get the instant gratification.[;)]

Count me in! I've got the photo bug bad! I own three SLR's (2 Nikons and a Yashica), and recently bought my sister a digital (Olympus D-520Z) so that I could borrow it. I have printed business cards for my photography "business", and have actually done a couple of weddings (including my mom's!), a couple of Missionette crownings, and some costume parties for my niece's friends. My real love is landscapes though. Here's a link to my CW GT photo album.

I have Photoshop 6.0 on my computer courtesy of my oldest sister. I had 5.0 on my old computer. Been using it for almost 10 years and have barley scratched the surface. It's one huge program. While I like the instant gratification of digital, the quality of the shots I get with my SLR blows the digital away.

Wow, those are great!!! Beautiful landscapes.....you should add some scriptures to some of those in some fancy font and turn them into posters. I'm assuming with the snow shots you are farther north than me (lol - everyone is farther north than me, unless they're in Mexico).

I loved the whole FA collection, I needed a good laugh. I really liked the one of her stirring the chili. You're a nut. [8D]

Are you familiar with Flat Awed? There's a thread in the Community Lounge explaining about her. I still have some pictures of FA on the beach to post. The landscapes are from local parks, the seascapes are from the beach three blocks from my apartment.

I did a search and read up on Flat Awed.....what a cool idea. So, you finally got her to the beach huh? Good for you!

I need to get to the beach....a bit of a drive for me, but it would be a treat for the kids (they haven't been yet).

New Jersey - does that mean you have an accent? I can tell you right now, I do. I say things like ya'll and git all the time. Actually, it isn't too bad, I know people with much more of an accent....my bil sounds like he just stepped out of a western (actually - he was an extra in "the alamo" with John Wayne).

I am a big photo nut. A year and a half ago I went digital and bought a Sony DSC-F828 which is an 8.0 MP camera. I also bought a really good external flash, a tripod, some filters, etc.

For editing I use: Photoshop Elements 3.0, Paint Shop Pro 9.0, Noise Ninja, and soon (I hope) Photoshop CS2. I also have something called Mystical Lighting which is a plug-in to either PSP or PS. I use ACDSee 7 to organize my photos.

Last summer I travelled to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone and took a ton of pictures including a bunch of closeups of a moose. Currently I am laid up having just hade major ankle surgery so it's darn near impossible to do much photography [:(]

Still I'll try and maybe work on my digital workflow...

I mostly love outdoor photography especially mountains, lakes, trees, etc.

I love taking scenic photos and pictures of kids (other people's kids...I don't have any).

I just take digital photos anymore.

Gotcha. I not only talk funny - I AM funny, at least that's what my kids keep telling me.

I guess I need to get photoshop and learn some new tricks....your pictures are really nice.

BTW - like your new avatar - I loved Opus when he was just a little runt in his mommie penguins litter. He is so misunderstood.

I LOVE taking pictures too. Mostly of my kids, but some sports and anything that is beautiful. I just got a Sony Cypbershot P200 and I LOVE IT!! I can do anything with it. I do some editing in Photoshop.

Beckey, a full blown copy of Photoshop is very expensive, like minimum of $600. Photoshop Elements has all or the most frequently used tools and commands for around $100. Unless you're going to be getting into serious desktop publishing, don't spend the extra money. I got my copy from a place I used to work. They gave me the discs and told me take it home and learn it. I was like, okay, twist my arm a little!

I actually consider myself a professional amateur. I shoot professional soccer on a regular basis MatchNight but I don't have that good of a digital camera. I've been doing photography for over 30 years, having won several awards years ago. Though I've been doing it for so long, I know there is still a LOT I have to learn, especially now that I'm trying to get into the digital world. The equipment I require to really be a professional could run over $10,000! Lord willing, it's something that I'll be able to do in a few years.

I also use Photoshop for most of my special work, but on the daily stuff for soccer, because of the volume of what I shoot (over 1500 images/game), I have another program that lets me quickly go through them.

Those are really good shots Lisa.

I used to love being on the sidelines in high school when I was on the yearbook staff. I would know nothing about sports had it not been for my work back then. I had one basketball photo published in our newspaper back then, but that was a LOOOONNNNNNNG time ago.

My dream, when I was growing up, was to be a National Geographic photographer. I always thought that would be the coolest job.

Me too, til I read about what some of those poor souls go through to get those shots. Would you be willing to stand on the side of Mt. Everest in the middle of a blizzard for a possibility? Or spend days trekking through the Amazon jumgle, picking leeches off your body each night, counting the spider and other bug bites?

I don't see it on their web site, but there was a book detailing how some of those most famous shots were captured. I'm sorry, but to spend 3 weeks in the jungle in primitive conditions to get one shot of a rare frog or butterfly ain't workin' for me.

Yeah, that's true. I did read an article about the NG photographers once in a drs office. It does sound horrendous at times.

I will just have to be satisfied shooting nature pics in my back yard and spending the rest of my creative genes documenting my kids lives. They are my favorite subject anyhow.

There are a couple of good books if you want to look into selling you photos. One gives tips on how to set up a portfolio, the other is a list of companies, mags, etc. that buy photos and what you need to do to submit some. Here's a link.

Hi all,
I too like photography. My first digital was an early Sony Mavica - 303,000 pixels!. I now have an Olympus C770 UZ with 4 megapixels. The difference is astounding. I hear some cameras are now up to 12 megapixels, but 4 mp will do me.

I have a couple of photos in the Photo Gallery here in the Christianity.com section. I don't have any photos on the Internet but am thinking of uploading some to my Yahoo account sometime in the near or distant future.

This is an interesting site of Brisbane here in Australia. many were taken in the 1800's and stored on glass slides.

I tried a lot of software on a 30 day trial basis but finally settled for Ulead's Photo Impact XL - not too complicated but gets the job done. I use Photoshop Album to organise my photos because it's categorising is more user friendly - especially when I was faced with albumising 8000+ photos (the good, the bad, the ugly). I'm just about finished too. They are mostly of my travels, nature and landscapes. In the last 9 months, I've "discovered" more birds than I ever knew existed!

I have all my stuff in yahoo albums they are relatively user friendly too. I put my favorites that I like to share in photobucket.

So here's a question for you photo-bugs....How do you organize or categorize your pictures? I have all mine in "date taken" order (year and month). But there has got to be a better way. Any ideas?
