Yes, it is!

Tomorrow is X's 12th birthday. We've got some plans to make it special. Like we bought J a practice sword and talked to him about practising to be a man, we've bought X a present to signify her practising to be a woman.

J bought her a huge book on anatomy (the perfect present for X right now as she is talking of being a doctor), but he couldn't hold out. He gave her his present this morning.

Dh and I have put her wrapped presents out in the loungeroom. She thinks we're very cruel, making her just look at them until tomorrow.

Well, I hope she has a great birthday! That age seems like a lifetime ago to me!

It seems like a lifetime of parenting to me!

I am having one of those 'my baby can't be that old' years this birthday.

I became a Christian when I was 12yo and much to my parents horror I never grew out of the phase I was going through.

I think it was around then that I stopped going to church. I was being abused by my parents. Wasn't allowed to have friends home, even if it was to do a homework assignment for school. It wasn't too pleasant a time for me.

It's funny isn't it. It was for probably similar reasons I became a Christian.

We had a lovely time. We went out to Hogs Breath for dinner and dh and I gave her a swarovski crystal flower as her special present (we do a special present at 12yo and talk about growing up and the type of people they might want to become).

J got her a book on Human Anatomy as she wants to be a doctor for the monent. She said it's a little old for her right now, a little too detailed.

And for a little present dh and I bought her some new sleepers.

That sounds awesome.

I've never eaten at Hog's Breath. Since I had gastric surgery, things like steak are an impossibility for me to eat. Unless it's mince or an extremely thin, small piece of meat, my stomach just won't accept it. Sometimes I have problems with chicken too, but mainly red meat.

Yes, now I just have to find five seconds to go shopping and make sure I make it to a post office on a Saturday.

Dh flies to Launceston tomorrow. I can't believe he's going to Tassie without me.

I don't usually resent how much dh travels, but I resent this one. Tassie is one of only two states in Australia I've never visited and I'm really feeling jipped.

It's definitely on the cards for some time in the future, but then we'd have to organise someone to care for dogs, cats and kids too.

Could you bring a friend in to stay with the kids and house etc while you go away?

I loved Salamanca Markets in Hobart if you ever get there on a weekend.

The one friend I have who doesn't have any ties herself and could possibly do it lives and works on the other side of the city and couldn't make it to work if she was dealing with getting the kids to school too.

I guess it's just a dream I'll have to put on hold for a couple of more years.

We had plans to go there at this time of year, but it just isn't going to happen. Some day...

Kylie, I know that Christmas is still a long way off, but have you got a Christmas pudding/cake recipe that is gluten-free, has no eggs or dairy? If you don't, I have one and I can email it to you or post it here if you prefer. Just let me know.

We're not big on Christmas pudding/cake, more likely to have a pavlova and cold foods.

Thank you for the offer though, that was very thoughtful.

I dropped dh at the airport this morning. He's away until Thursday.

I am a little upset right now. We're dropping the kids at their grandparents for two weeks this coming weekend. During the time they will be gone dh is going to be out of town for six days.
