I'd like to see the ranking system changed back to "OR" instead of "AND", A person's rank should be based on how involved they are in the community, not how popular they are.

I think this is being said all over. This ranking system just isn't intuitive and it's unworkable. And, since it's a hot topic all over the board, it's very difficult to just ignore it.

Changing it back to 'or' is still going to make some of it come down to 'popularity'... and some people are still going to rack up points by having/going to threads designed for that purpose...

I have no problem ignoring what my own rating is, what anyone else's rating is, nor what kind of member they are... this stuff is only going to matter if you let it matter to you...

Seriously... in 12 months time, is it really going to matter about how many points you have today? In 5 years or 10 years, will it matter...

I cannot believe that such a small issue is causing such attention...

I don't like that some people might always be a Junior Member or less just because people may disagree with their opinion. Dump the score for all I care, but a person's ranking should be an indication of how involved in the community they are (post count) not an indication of how much they are liked (score).

Surely if someone has several thousand posts they should have a few positive rankings in all that. The only way I could see that scenario happening if someone was a one-issue person and that's all they came here to do--post about their unpopular viewpoint. If they did for thousands of posts, they'd probably be really annoying anyway!

If you're using Internet Explorer...

Open the Subscription bookmark and then click on the links while holding down the shift key.
This will open the page in a new window.

Read the thread and then close the page.

Repeat for the next link in your subscriptions.

That's what I do for my 75 (and growing) subscriptions.

This issue can be handled nicely with firefox users too...either press down on a link with the mousewheel or right click and "open in new tab". You get a new tab with the other page of links still there in the background and its a heck of a lot less cumbersome than IE's open in new WINDOW. Will IE ever get on the tabbed browsing bandwagon????

OK then....

If you don't want us to have fun with the ratings, then give us something that we CAN have fun with that works somewhat similar.

Here goes....

I want to be able to give out free hugs, smiles and hearts that can be stored up in our profiles.

I want to be able to earn a piece of fudge for ever 10 posts that i make, a hat for every 100 posts and straight jacket for every 500 posts and my own looney bin cell for every 1000 posts. These items can be kept or given away to other posters.

What do ya say??!!

Sounds fun, Lisa! Although if I earn a loony bin for myself, I'm keeping it!

Any tips on now long to count before I can post again? Mostly have problems in intro when welcoming more than one person.

Doing alot of reading now & multiple posts only in intro so far. But could become tedious.

Can we sign a pledge not to spam ???

When archiving pms the page it takes me to has no options. Do I just go back or what ?

Whenever I've gotten that "posting too soon" warning thing, I usually count to 20 and try again.

I REALLY want to be able to opt out of the entire rating systems thing... I mean if we can opt out of having other members view our profile, why wouldn't we be allowed to opt out of having other members judge the thoughts and opinions we have????

God Bless,
Fleeingme80

Amen. Let those who want to have fun with it have fun with it, and those who don't like it ignore it.

Because the system is set up for one and not the other. I don't know if it is possible for that adjustment to be made.

Agapetos,

I didn't always feel like this, infact for a while I was having fun using it as a tool to raise morale, but then I learned that it's "proper usage" was to grade/critique/judge the thoughts/beliefs/opinions of others and the more I thought/think about it the more I want(-ed) NOTHING to do with the entire thing. I just think it's judgemental and WRONG....Believe me I've tried to ignore it & since I don't believe in the so-called "proper usage", aka. judging/critiquing/grading the opinions of others, of the feature,.... I've resolved that I will not use this feature on anyone and since that is the case I doN'T want anyone using it on me, so I WANT to be able to opt out of the ENTIRE thing.... I mean other people may like it and be able to use it "properly", but if the proper usage is to judge others for their opinions, beliefs etc..., then I want NOTHING to do with it... I don't know if that made sense , if it doesn't just know I tried , J/K--LOL!!!!!

God Bless,
Fleeingme80

FYI--Having an opting out feature would allow those of us who doN'T like it not to participate in it AT ALL, while at the same time allowing those who do like it to keep using it...

I hear what you're saying... I think it's going to be an all or nothing thing though...

And as, at the moment, it's an 'all', all those who don't want to have anything to do with it is ignore it...

And I will add... while I understand where you're coming from with your sig, you may find that you're attracting points from people who just want to tease and see it as a fun thing... but that could just be me being a cynic

I would like to suggest a "Singles over 45" folder. Anyone can post in it, but at least it's an area for older singles to hang out and talk about stuff that 20 year old really don't understand as well as we do.....(no insult intended....)

Thanks!

Ability to have your own avatars, as in, once you can link/upload.

Unless you have those. And the method of achieving one has eluded me.

Color style is better though.

You CAN have your own avatar....but only after 15 (I think) total posts.

Don't worry. You will be able to upload your own avatar after you have at least 15 posts.

What exactly is proper usage? I just gave someone a positive score because they happened to know a song that most people do not know at all.
