my mom is coming for almost 2 weeks then again my mom is coming for almost 2 weeks I have had good and bad visits with my mom. I am really going to try and make this a fun visit. Bad thing is most of the problem is mine. I have a not so nice history with my mom because she had such a hard time letting go that things she does just trying to be helpful annoy me. If a friend came over right after I was sick or had a baby and did those exact same things I would be grateful. I brought this up to a good friend of mine and she pointed out that it was because of the history I had with my mom. My mom tried to control everything about my life so I take her trying to help as trying to control. So I am going to pray that God will help me to see my mom as trying to help and not trying to control me. I want a wonderful visit instead of one where I am doing a countdown for her to leave.

How old are you? If you just got out from under mom's control then its normal to be hyer-vigilant and that should pass with time. If you've been gone from home for some time then maybe some help to get you to not be so nervous about mom visiting?

Have you forgiven your mom for being so controlling? Could you sit her down and ask her why she was that way. I'll bet anything she was full of fear that if she didn't control something terrible would happen to you.
Mostly we moms do things out of love but sometimes its misguided love.
I hope you have a great time with your mom and hope that the day will come when you both can laugh about this. God can do great things.

there is no control - unless you give her the OK to rule.

I've watched my girl friends do it time and time again when their moms
show up... it's comical!

One of their mom's rearranges the furniture or something and she won't dare change things until her mom leaves!

On thing I've learned recently with a Church friend... ask her to help before she jumps in and "offers". Sometimes that means you have to be quick, but it's worth it.

Then you feel like you are responsible, yet open and teamwork-ish, rather than controlled, intruded-on and that 'I didn't need to be rescued!' wounded feeling.

Also, we know that in the world ppl sometimes find it hard to get along with their relatives. I guess that Christians, for the sake of testimony, can usefully make a special effort to do so.
