A couple of the threads in the general faith section got me thinking; one is "Questions about Healing" and the other, "The power of prayer." The responses I read on these threads are in line with what I am tending to see through my own life experiences; FAITH it is powerful and seems to be the answer to everything. I believe that we can count on God to heal us, provide for us, etc.
When does having great faith cross the line with the false doctrince of name it, claim it?

I think you start to cross the line when you start to have too much confidence/pride that when you pray, or do something else in the faith, that you start to claim something miraculous happens. For instance, if you prayed for someone to be healed and it genuinely happened, you can start to be prideful and then try to do that with EVERYONE you pray for, or even touch.
Like for instance, I used to be able to touch my fiancee's head and it would heal. But it's not happening anymore according to what my fiancee said. So, if I were to try to do that again, out of pride (sinful pride), and I were to try to get God to conform to my will to get my fiancee's headache healed, then I would be guilty of 'name it, and claim it.'
Truly things do happen miraculously, but not at our every command. So the 'name it and claim it' teaching is that you demand God to heal this person or else you do not have the Holy Spirit.

I recommend you read some of the excellent threads in the 'Church' sub-forum where the Word of Faith movement/teachers/teachings are tested in light of Scripture.

It is the object of our Christian faith, Jesus Christ, who is powerful and who is the answer to everything. In the same way it is the One to whom we pray who has power, not the prayer itself.
These little slogans that we like to use can do real harm when they make us and what we are doing the focus, instead of Jesus and what He is doing the focus. That is what crossing the line is; ascribing the power that only the Creator has to His creation.

The difference between faith and "name it claim it" is that faith depends solely on the goodness of God to have mercy on His children and grant our requests. Name it, Claim it means you say it and it has to happen... that is presumptuousand demanding. So the difference is really the heart attitude. Are you asking a good Father, or are you demanding that a formula come to it's designed end?

When the person thinks that they are the ones who decide what and when God does things for His children.

Thank you for taking the time to write and bless us little ones on the forum. Earthless, couldn't find that thread...maybe I just missed it.
Let's just say, for example: That Jesus healed childern in my family after I prayed and put my complete faith in Him. Maybe a concusion on the head dissappered immediately or cuts disappeared. Should I limit asking God to heal only the young, who may not be turned off from Jesus if it is not in His will for healing. Should I pray for healing in private? That way the other person doesn't know what I am doing if He decides my prayer is not in His plan.
In my personal struggles, many tines through faith I am able to lay my problems at the foot of the cross and make leaps in His direction for me...Yet I continue to see others Christians dealing with the same issues taking baby steps, making it harder than what it is.
I guess I am just still confused about this all.
