Hey single peoples! Did I type forum? I meant person. New threads on the single person. How often do you get out and get some new clothes, and are they with the hopes to impress, or because quite shockingly and suddenly you realize your ensembles are unraveling (past any sense of fashion). Who have we to say, 'You need to replace that THING you are wearing, dear, right? Do you try to donate you aging clothes to a charity before they reach the unwearable stage, or do you max them out on your own? Does half your wardrobe support your favorite sports team or blood donation location? Me? Shopping for clothes is like going to the dentist. If there was a relaxation shopping pill like there is now for dental visits, I'd safely take three of them. A tall guy with legs a foreign clothing designer could only dream of having (runner's legs), most jeans I try on, including American brand names, are cut for indoor-type folks whose leg exercise is from the house to the care, the car to the job... . I don't despise shopping. I can put some colors together. I do like clothes, especially when I find some I can wear. I do hate the ugly lights used in places. I do have a tendency to think hmm... wonder how long I've owned this shirt sometimes. I tend to wear things out (see difficulty in finding). I do support my teams (don't have any Rowdies stuff or team hoodies (too warm to have the hood against my back). Blood donation T-shirts are great for yardwork! Shoes are right in following with the clothes. Also, things like running water, electricity, phone service, and such tend to rule my wardrobe more than I care for them to. That's it. Have at it and enjoy! OneJohn410

I like clothes, fashion, and shoes, though I don't think you'd get that from looking at me. Currently, I dress pretty middle of the road - sometimes I do something a bit different and then I get compliments. But I like the classics with a bit of pizazz. Like a nice brown sweater dress with cowl collar, stockings and shoes and a cute belt. Or a nice pair of black pants and a funky top with chunky jewelry. Or a tailored black suit with a really cool white shirt underneath that might have an interesting collar. I like things that you could go to work in, go out to eat in, etc. I really don't like jeans but I wear them all of the time now (I'm a student.) At work, I wear different costumes - so I usually throw on a pair of capris and a shirt and call it a day since I won't be in it for long. I am rarely totally out of style (that I know of anyway), but I am not as stylish as I would like to be. Since I like classics a lot - it is easier to weather the trends. Right now, my closet is a shambles and I desperately need to shop. I have things that need to be given away or repaired and I don't have a lot of "outfits" but more separates. But in the past, the way that I keep my closet up to date is to periodically go out and get a few new pieces - then weed out the old ones. Usually, I buy things as I need them - and before I was a grad student - I'd try to do a significant shopping trip before the change of seasons (about twice a year). I don't like to shop much - and hate window shopping so that helped me to keep on top of things. I have kept things in my closets for years that I'm not using - but when I recently moved I gave a lot of them away. I've been dressing kind of "old" for work - but I'm trying to dress a bit younger now and my clothes aren't nearly as boxy and they work better with my figure. I want to be more disciplined in giving clothes away - after all, a person who is homeless and doesn't have clothes will probably not be worried if the clothes are a few years out of style. If you don't like to shop, maybe you can just schedule one major shopping trip a year? (You could think of it as you would a "dental" checkup). You could weed out the stuff in your closet that is out of style - buy new stuff that is in style - replace things that won't last another year - give away some stuff. If you buy classic clothes - they will last a lot longer and you won't have to do much in terms of buying and maintenance.

I love new clothes and shoes too much. I have to be careful not to allow myself any down time. I'll only end up buying stuff & regretting it!

Q: How often do you get out and get some new clothes, and are they with the hopes to impress, or because quite shockingly and suddenly you realize your ensembles are unraveling (past any sense of fashion). A: I usually end up just being out and about at a store for something else, like shampoo, and happen to walk past the clothes and see something and end up getting it. Or I hear of a big sale at JCPennys and check it out. I don't really plan on buying clothes very often. But I guess I buy like one or two new sweaters every winter. Every other time is totally random. Usually when I do get new clothes, it's for church or other "dressing up" occasions, such as a wedding. If I were still teaching, like I did 2 years ago, I probably would buy new clothes more often because I would have to dress up more. But since I work in an electronics factory now, I wear a smock over my clothes and I don't care what I'm wearing as much because nobody can really see anyway. I don't recall having any clothes unraveling...and if they were they'd probably become a dust rag! ;) Q: Do you try to donate you aging clothes to a charity before they reach the unwearable stage, or do you max them out on your own? A: I usually give away my clothes to my friend's nieces. She has 3 girls in their teens. Stuff that doesn't fit me anymore. Or else I donate to a cerebral palsy organization. They pick up donated goods at the curb just about every 3 months here. And I also have clothes that I have not worn in a long time, stuff that I hope to someday fit into again! ;) Q: Does half your wardrobe support your favorite sports team or blood donation location? A: I only have 2 packer shirts that I wear, and no blood donation locations... I do have a few favorite old t-shirts that I wear just at home. One is a shirt from my high school senior class of '97. It used to look tye dyed, but not so much anymore! The other is also a tye dye tee that I made myself one summer when I worked at a girl scout camp. I guess they're my faves b/c I like the memories associated with them. Now if I had more money, I probably would pay more attention to fashion and buy new stuff more often, but I kind of like things the way they are. I owned one pair "girbaud" jeans as a teen, that I had to buy myself, $60 a pair, but it didn't really make me feel any cooler than if I wore a cheaper brand, so I kind of gave up on caring about what was cool back then. Just about every day except Sunday I wear t-shirts, or a bit fancier blouse or sweatshirts when it's cold and jeans. In the summer I mostly wear capri's. I love sandals and usually buy a new pair every year, but this year I didn't b/c my pair from last year were still good. I wish I could wear sandals year round!

Thanks for the replies, ladies! Sandals rock! I had a pair I wore until the soles cracked open and started taking on gravel. NOT good on any hardwood floors, plus who wants to be seen poking at rocks on the bottonms of their shoes? I mean, what's next? Sock lint from under the toenails? Wearing costumes at work, hmm... sounds like fun, like Chuck E Cheese or something. I hope they pay for them to be cleaned every so often, and you get your very own costume. To share something like that, well. PU, a little too community in my book. Anyone have a clothes closet at their church or heard of something like that in town?

Dang! Why do hotels have Internet hook up. This is supposed to be my getaway, but I'm here....I need help! Clothes? My least favorite topic. I'd pay anyone who wants to do my shopping for me. Take me to REI anytime and I'm happy like a little girl lost in a candy store. Jeans and anything to go with them....yeah...that's good enough for me...I can make them look good, lol. I'm not in style, but I'm not out of style. But start talking shoes and we'll have something to talk about for hours...

But yes they do clean them. We get clean ones every Tuesday. Then we just throw the dirty ones in a laundry chute. :)

Not exactly Chuck E Cheese but it is nice to look totally different. We have our own costumes and some of them are made from scratch, just for us (how cool is that?) - and they are tailored for us. So my clothes always fit, even when I lose weight. There are one or two costumes that we share - but those are always washed and clean for us when we get into work in the morning (if that happens). The major issue though is that I have to wear something on my head all of the time so my hair is always a wreck. Thankfully there are showers etc, and there is usually time to blow dry our hair, curl it, put on regular makeup (instead of stage makeup) etc. And they wash our clothes whenever needed (the people who work with us are so awesome!) - so I never have to worry about anything being dirty.

I occasionally buy myself something, but I try to keep it affordable, classy, timeless, and unique. So obviously it is VERY occasionally that I find something that fits those! And always lament terribly when an old favorite is just too far gone and I have to let it go.

The only time I put aside a day to buy clothes is when I'm going to buy new jeans. Then I really need the input of a friend. Other than that I buy clothes whenever I see something that looks good. With my size I can usually get something for a reasonable prize and in my size too. Clothing prices sometimes vary according to size and often items that are on sale are usually limited in size - so most times I'm fortunate. That's it for casual clothing. For clothes to go to work in, I usually need to schedule a visit to the seamstress or the tailor, especially for skirts, dresses and trousers. I am not fortunate when shopping for these things at all. They never have my size. Most of the available sizes are too big and they don't fit properly, so off to the seamstress I go. Thankfully she's right next door. Having said all of that, I wear things until they can't be worn again. And where work clothes are concerned, style isn't a deciding factor for me. When I go by the seamstress, she usually knows what's in style and will fix things for me accordingly. As far as name brands are concerned, I always say stuff like, "Nike cannot afford to pay me for the advertising I'd do for them." The only time name is prominently displayed on me is when I bought my Nike sneakers this year. (But darn do they feel good to walk around in.) Oh yeah and jeans, the brand is usually somewhere on the waistband. But I don't buy according to brand name I buy according to what fits right. When I'm shopping with my male cousins I've noticed that they purchase stuff with team names and players names plastered across their chest. If they really need clothes and they can't get the player or team they want, they are not pleased at all. They will only buy second best if they are in desperate need of clothes, but most times they fortunately get what they want, then the deciding factor is colour.

But I don't buy according to brand name I buy according to what fits right. Brand is how I stream line my shopping time. I won't go in a store that doesn't carry my brand....and since I'm size 0, there's only very few brands that I can wear. And I have the most loyalty to any brand that I've been happy with....there's only a few of them. It makes shopping so much easier that even a stranger can shop for me. I'd just tell them the brand and the size, and they are guaranteed to fit.

>> How often do you get out and get some new clothes,<< Couple of times a year. I'm always watching the catalogs that come through. Sometimes I will go to Beall's, but more often than not I find what I like in the catalogs and order online. >>and are they with the hopes to impress, or because quite shockingly and suddenly you realize your ensembles are unraveling (past any sense of fashion).<< I'm a professional (musician and music teacher) so what I wear has to communicate professionalism whether I'm onstage or in the studio teaching. My recital attire is to me a little bit like a "costume"--and that thought helps me remain calm onstage--I'm not me, I'm an actor acting out something and that helps me not be so nervous. So recital attire HAS to make me feel incredible. Yes, it's meant to impress. Mostly to impress ME, lol! Studio attire has to look professional but be comfortable. At my size, it's not so hard to get professional, but doesn't usually come with "comfortable". And comfortable doesn't usually come with "professional". But I have found combinations that work and I stick with that: when those start to get obviously worn or stained, then for the sake of professionalism I have to purchase more, but it's not a shopping trip: I go straight to the catalog and order the same thing again. I do like to make an impression--guess that's the artist in me (or maybe just depraved need for attention--so I look for things that cause my body-type to be the last thing you notice, but something that get's attention and makes me feel confident, positive and happy. >>Do you try to donate you aging clothes to a charity before they reach the unwearable stage, or do you max them out on your own?<< I have some "work" clothes that are just for doing house and yard work or exercise: those I will wear until they fall off and I don't care what they look like. But the other stuff, when I can't wear it to work anymore, it goes to the thrift store at the art school where I work. >>Does half your wardrobe support your favorite sports team or blood donation location?<< I refuse to PAY to advertise FOR someone. If they want me to advertise for them, they can pay ME. I do have t-shirts from the plays I've done at the community theater. They are in the "work clothes" catagory and aren't much seen outside my neighborhood. I like having them, though, as memorabilia. shallbe
