This occured this morning about 3:50 am. Thousands in a 1mile radius evacuated. One firefighter who was a 25 year vetran of the force has died. There is a no fly zone for 25 miles around the area (which is close to Toronto's Pearson airport) The 401, a major hiway through Toronto is closed. No word when anyone can go home. There where some injuries and a lot of damage to homes and businesses in the area.

A bunch of people from my city (almost 4 hours away) were called in to help with the containment and whatnot of the blaze (I'm from an area known as Chemical Valley, so half of our emergency petrochem fire crew were dispatched to TO early this morning ... as far as I know, they are all still on scene)

I actually remember waking to it, but not really paying attention to what it is (I didn't even bother to get out of bed to look to see what is...I would have had a spectacular view)

One employee of the plant, the truck dispatcher, is still missing. Everything has pretty much reopened and most people are allowed back into their homes, except for about 3000 people. After seeing the blast on television and knowing the area, a lot of people should count themselves blessed that this wasn't any worse.
