I read that if your tax rebate will be direct deposited, you will receive it earlier. This may seem like a dumb question, but where do you let the IRS know that you want your rebate direct deposited? Is it based on how you filed your taxes? We had to pay this year and had the money withdrawn from our checking account. Does this mean that our rebate will be direct deposited into that account?

Hm. I know if you had your refund automatically deposited that your rebate will be, as well. But I don't know about if you had to pay. The irs.gov site does have FAQs about the rebate-I would begin there.

I would guess that if they have your banking info you will get direct deposit.

so if you have changed banks in the mean time...... I'd go to the IRS website: http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=177937,00.html that link is directly to the page for the "Economic Stimulus Payments".... Iam sure somewhere in there, that question, and any others can be answered there

I found this from the IRS site: quote:
Q. Can I have my Stimulus Payment direct deposited? A. Stimulus Payments will be direct deposited for taxpayers who select that option when filing their 2007 tax returns. Taxpayers who already filed and requested direct deposit won't need to do anything else to receive the Stimulus Payment. Taxpayers who did not request Direct Deposit for their 2007 refund will receive a paper check by mail. The IRS reminds taxpayers who haven't filed their 2007 returns yet that Direct Deposit is the fastest way to get both regular refunds and Stimulus Payments. Q. If I'm not expecting a refund, should I still fill out the direct deposit line on my return so I can get my Stimulus Payment direct deposited? A. Yes. Even if you aren't due a refund on your tax return, filling out the bank routing information will allow for your Stimulus Payment to be direct deposited. Even though we didn't have a tax refund to be direct deposited, we had the money withdrawn directly from our checking account. I did have to supply our banking information for the money to be withdrawn. I would think by what is stated above, the stimulus payment will be direct deposited, but I guess I'll find out soon enough.
