I was weened and have a great regard for KJV and frequently refer to it because some of its language and figures are unique and of 'our' shared heritage. Personally, for study, I refer NRSV(NRSB).

Actually the 1611 AV has that verse like this: Gen 39:8 But he refused, and said vnto his masters wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with mee in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath, to my hand. Gen 39:9 There is none greater in this house then I: neither hath hee kept backe any thing from me, but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I doe this great wickednesse, and sinne against God?

The NKJV is a basis translation. The Amplified Bible gives the various possible meanings for many of the words. The Living Bible is sort of an interpretation into modern language and descriptions. These are my routine translations when studing scripture. If I have a question about an issue, I look up other sources (mostly on the internet where I find both sides of issues). I do not follow a specific Bible study program, because each study program has its own aggenda.

I have used a number of versions over the years. When I first became a Christian I mainly used the KJV. After that I moved on to the RSV which I used exclusively for a number of years. I did a lot of memory work in the RSV. Then I used the NASB for a few years. After that I went to the NIV for about 10 years. Now I'm using mainly the ESV. But I own a number of versions that I hardly ever use, except for reference every now and then -- The Living Bible, the New Berkeley Version, the Contemporary English Version, the Good New Bible (Today's English Version), the Jerusalem Bible, and the New English Bible. I also have a NKVJ that is the English part of my Korean-English Bible.

I started with the KJV when I was a new believer. Then went to NIV for simplicity of reading. Now I'm using the Holman Christian Standard Version since it is what my apologetics bible came in. I like it as well as the NIV.

I was given a KJV at age nine. So the language became familiar to me and I like the way the verses are separated as compared to NIV, but I also use an NIV.

LOL I use the KJV. Generally speaking, I love the beauty of the language. I would like to know what "pate" means, tho Psa 7:16 His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.

New American Standard Bible (NASB) - For study and teaching English Standard Version (ESV) - study and reading New Living Translation (NLT) - for casual reading and help understanding the overall scope or context of a passaged or book.

Now I love using the full version of the NET bible (New English Translation) It is a new translation where for the first time the scholars wrote down why they translated it the way they did and other possibilities. Then they allowed the public to comment on the translation so it was basically beta tested on the internet. The full version with translation notes is very good.

Most people like the John Macarthur Study Bible CLICK HERE and I have heard the New Inductive Study Bible CLICK HERE was pretty solid I personally like the Life application study bible - but honestly I don't really use them as much I teach a class so I am usually doing my own studies.

Hi NYCorBUST, Thanks for the recommendations. I like the Life Application Bible...it was a great help when I first started diving into the OT. It's just that I've had it for so long, I've begun to find the notes a bit "fluffy"-far better suited to a new believer. I need something a bit more challenging these days.

When i first came to Christ i used the NKJV and liked it very much. But my Bible Church used the NIV and I never was real comfortable reading/studying it, so my NKJV was my main Bible. It has served me well for many years. Now for the last several years I have switched to the NASB and have never looked back. It is and has been the best to learn and study from, for me, and is the Bible used at my Presbyterian Church. I have also found I really like my HCSB just for everyday reading.

Depends on what I am looking for. I first read cover to cover the NIV then NASB then NKJV then started CEV but found it to be to grievous to continue reading. read most of new Jerusalem, NCV, ESV, Used to use about 18 versions spread out for studies to see how each translated certain verses. When talking with Catholics I usually use NAB. At my second church we used NKJV. My first pulpit Bible was the ESV. Currently the church I am in uses KJV. Using e-Sword I like the KJV+, for Strong's, KJVA for printing, HNV, ESV, NKJV, YLT, trc, DRB, Darby, Geneva and Bishops for parallel study. My preference for the ESV was mainly the paragraph format like the NIV and NCV makes it easier to separate thoughts. Though some KJVs have good paragraph markings it can be easier to read in paragraph format. So far the only Study Bible I have owned is the Scofield as that is the favored of most pastors and ministers I know. The only two I would recommend people to stay away from so far are CEV and Amplified for it seems they are to way off in translating as compared to the other 20 something I have. Just the opinion of a small town preacher
