to find out how many projects a group has released? email the group directly or by just studying online? some may know the numbers and how to get titles. am interested in Crabb Family, Kingdom Heirs to start.

David Bruce Murray runs a website that has quite a bit of information concerning discographies for the various groups and artists. It is www.sghistory.com Several of us on this forum have contributed to his site. If that site doesn't have adequate information for the ones you are looking for (and I think they do for the Crabb Family), then contacting the groups would probably be the best way.

The Crabb Family should be fairly easy to figure out, but the Kingdom Heirs, might be a little harder. Just like the Kingsmen, i'm not sure ANYBODY knows exactly how many projects they had including all recordings, table projects, best of's, greatest hits, etc, etc. I asked Ray once and he said he had no idea whatsoever. I have a guestimate, with all the projects i own of theirs, but i know their are still others of the table projects that i don't have.

I just checked out the SG site and they have 16 projects listed for the Crabb Family from 1996-2007, but they list no compilation projects. For the Kingdom Heirs there are 44 projects listed (3 of those are compilations) from 1982-2007.

That's pretty good! The only group for which I have all of their CD's is Legacy Five. The Cathedrals are the next closest though I am nowhere near as close to having all of those as Daniel is.

I'm like you in that I wish the older projects would be re-released on CD. I contacted an individual about the possibility of a certain group doing that for their groups older projects. Unfortunately, there was not enough interest to justify the cost of such an endevour. If you are ever interested in finding the complete discography for the Cathedrals, check out the SG history site I mentioned earlier or look at Daniel Mount's Cathedrals Tribute page. Also, the Dixie Echoes have most, if not all, of their projects listed on their website. Songs are also included. In fact, they have a complete history of the group on their site. The link for it is near the bottom of their main page.

I can understand them not releasing old LPs on CD due to market demand. What I can't understand is why any out of print CD by a major label wouldn't be offered as a digital download now. It's simply a matter of ripping an existing copy of the CD and putting it out there. There's NO physical cost to doing it that way. I know, I know...they have to work out rights to distribute in that manner, but that's usually a cop out for not being willing to do the little bit of work required rather than a legitimate reason. All those Canaan CDs, Benson CDs, Homeland CDs, etc. from the 1980s and 1990s should be available by now to download.

When I created the discography page for the Crabb Family, there was a recording I didn't have any information on that was recorded through Eddie Crook Company sometime around 1995. I can't guarantee if an entire recording was done or just a single was shipped to radio, but they had a song released in 1995 called "Ghost Stories". Everything that I recorded at 'sghistory.com' was what I had in my collection at the time the page was created.

You could create that page. Just e-mail David Bruce Murray and tell him you are interested. As I said in another post, a bunch of us on here contribute to that site and it has grown tremendously in the past year. If you had seen the amount of info on there a year ago compared to what is on there now, you would be amazed. Seaton has been doing a lot on there and Daniel Mount contributed most if not all of the album covers.

Keep in mind that a site with the scope of SGHistory.com is always going to be a work in progress. Many of our discographies are VERY CLOSE to being complete, but only a few are truly complete. The reason we publish incomplete discographies is so site visitors can notice what we lack and help us fill in the blanks. If we waited until we were pretty sure a discography was complete before publishing it, it would take a lot longer before any info saw the light of day. We have some great volunteers who have helped make the site what it is today. We welcome all corrections and suggestions. If you see something on the site that doesn't line up with reality, please let us know.
